Quiet here today - is everyone off discussing The Archers or Panamania tax revelations?

Scents of the day were Paris 1948 X Empreinte. The latter is for days when I need to give a suggestion of formidable Grand Dame. The former brightens thing by topping up the artificial peach note.

Any news Shins? Have been sniffing around for fragrance at work but little to report (I do have a nasty cold...).

MrsCocoa · 06/04/2016 00:19

Panamanian - sorry.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 06/04/2016 06:20

I wore YSL old Paris yesterday morning and Heeley Hippie Rose yesterday evening. I do like the Heeley, and with only one squirt instead of 2 the Hairy Bikerness of the patchouli is more tolerable and smoky rather than sweaty.

Not going to have a rose day today though!

cressetmama · 06/04/2016 09:30

The Archers has been quite a to do! What scent was Helen wearing to stab Rob? I think the public needs to be told. Lady Vengeance? Anyone have a better idea?

I am thinking of dragging DS out for the day, maybe to walk the dog on a beach and for some lunch. That calls for something fresh and outdoorsy, which could well suggest Serpentine. This would be especially apt if we were to go to the Lizard, where serpentine is mined. Somehow, I doubt we'll get that far as the weather is unsettled!

simonettavespucci · 06/04/2016 09:48

I love this thread, and I have a question: are there any reformulations that anyone actually likes?

I tried Dior Dolce Vita today, because I used to love Eau de Dolce Vita before it was discontinued, and whereas before I found it heavy and unpleasant - over-spicy, maybe chocolatey even - now I really like it. I looked online and it has been reformulated, but everyone is so disparaging about the new version I am almost put off buying it. I like it though! Maybe I just have trash taste in perfume - definitely possible.

cressetmama · 06/04/2016 10:17

Hello Simonetta! Nice to see a new name, so welcome. My infatuation with perfume is only a few years old, therefore I can't really comment on reformulations, but around here, most would assert that it's your nose, your money and your choice. Not many people who become really interested have trash taste, but skin alchemy and your olfactory memories are likely to shape your preferences. And everyone is on a journey, so what I liked at 18 (Hermes Amazone, FWIW, and now never spotted) might not be what I'd buy at 59 (am now a scent tart). But I'd love to see a tester of "proper" Amazone again; I think there was a flanker once upon a time.

shins · 06/04/2016 10:22

AVENTUS BY CREED! I should have recognised it as a friend of mine wears it too. It's 80s-esque in its sillage. Monster. As I said, I wish more colleagues wore scent (*thoughtfully assigns various perfumes to colleagues depending on personality and style**)

Today I am wearing Premier Figueur by L'Artisan again, and a bright geometric print dress and red lipstick. Feel like Spring.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 06/04/2016 10:32

Ooooh, there are gazillions of decants of that on ebay. I have a saved search for "decant" and it's always that, every day.

I am wearing (please don't laugh) original Anais Anais. Not because I like it (and it's only one tiny spray on my collar) but because exactly 30 years ago today I first set eyes on the love of my life, and that was what I was wearing. And don't ever tell me love at first sight doesn't exist....Wink

YetAnotherNC · 06/04/2016 10:36

SOTD yesterday Miller Harris La Fumee, SOTD today, Jean Patou vintage Joy, buckets of warm roses and flowers, slightly old fashioned, nostalgic, but goes unexpectedly well with a black leather jacket. Rarrh, watch out world!

YetAnotherNC · 06/04/2016 10:38

ThenLater how lovely. Awww.

shins · 06/04/2016 10:49

Aw, Thenlater. My mum wore that through the 80s, love it!

cressetmama · 06/04/2016 11:40

Lovely memory and tribute ThenLater!

YetAnotherNC · 06/04/2016 17:37

Has anyone else tried Madonna's Truth or Dare? I ordered some Fracas about 3 weeks ago and am getting utterly frustrated waiting for it to arrive, so have been scouting round EBay (naughty, naughty....) and came across TorD for £6.99 and I've read reviews saying how like Fracas it is. Do you think it's worth trying? For £6.99 it might fill a gap until Fracas arrives? or I might just like it too much and not like Fracas any more Hmm

FrustratedFrugal · 06/04/2016 18:06

Anais Anais is a classic Wink

I wore Neela Vermeere's Bollywood Bling today. Sadly it was fleeting and there is an off note in the base that ruined it for me.

Probably wearing En passant tomorrow.

simonettavespucci · 06/04/2016 18:38

Thank you cresset! I actually meant to write 'trashy' as I do seem to like very sweet gourmands, which are not the most serious and sophisticated of perfumes. But I do not mind. And I like your point about how scent memory is so influential on what we like - how true. Anyway, in case anyone is interested, I found some reviews of the latest Mitsouko (which I also like) saying that it was better than the previous version (though not than the original one), so clearly it is not just a prejudice against reworking of any sort.

MrsCocoa · 06/04/2016 21:10

Hello Simonetta - yes, recall Luca Turin, no less, had some very kind things to say about the 2007 reformulation of Mitsouko.

Cresset is right about our personal taste, as well as fragrance formulations, changing over time. Thanks to Ebay, I was recently reunited with an original, unopened bottle of a long lost love, a very limited edition from 17 years ago. I remembered it as a dark and smoky wood. The fashion for Oud in recent years has clearly re-set my taste; it now smells pretty light and fluffy (although still lovely). No reformulation involved.

MrsCocoa · 06/04/2016 23:41

PS. Cressett: how about Bandit for tax evaders?

cressetmama · 07/04/2016 17:41

Love it, MrsC! Do you think David and George buy it to wear themselves, or give it to their wives for significant birthdays? Apparently, Sam inherited a field in Scunthorpe, which I thought a tad economical with the veracity.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 07/04/2016 19:11
Grin

I wore my old vintage Ysatis power amber this morning for school (my demon class for the final, 6th hour, I need to feel shoulder-paddy) but after showering dipped into my samples and pulled out Costume National.

Yuck.

Pear, gives way to something acidy, gives way to, well, human urine.

I've just been and scrubbed it off with dd's strong scented soap, but it is still there. It's odd, because underneath the pear scented wee, there is something quite nice, but it can't get through.

MrsCocoa · 07/04/2016 20:35

Then - sounds like you should've run with the Costume National for the Demon Class (should you want to freak them out I can let you have my sample of Beaufort 1805, which will transport them to the heart of the Battle of Trafalgar, sea sickness and all...),

And I am sorry I am Luca Turin obsessed right now - it's all Frugal's fault! She recommended a collection of his essays (The Folio Columns) in our last thread. I had the most perfect experience reading these whilst travelling last month. Brilliant writing - full of memorable ideas (and laugh out loud passages I'd love to share here if they weren't so long!). Thanks Frugal - any other recommendations?

simonettavespucci · 08/04/2016 10:16

Thank you MrsCocoa (or should that be coco? Grin ) - sounds fascinating - I will check him out. I think I am going to go ahead and buy the Dior, but it's a winter perfume for me, so now I need something summery - maybe a citrus cologne or similar.

cressetmama · 08/04/2016 10:55

Is the Luca Turin Essay collection available for a Kindle, do you know?

SoTD is Bvlgari Eau de The Bleu, which doesn't last and is soapy compared to the delicate freshness of the The Vert. And why can't I find a way to put accents on my letters? The international characters instructions don't seem to work in Office 365.

FrustratedFrugal · 08/04/2016 15:49

Luca Turin for Kindle.

teta · 08/04/2016 16:23

Chanteceille's Frangipane today.I've just received a decant of this and Kalimantan.Love the Frangipane but sadly it doesn't last although the Fragantican reviews generally state Its very long lasting. And it's such an expensive perfume versus it's longevity.
Kalimantan smells like walking past a temple in Malaysia. The Scent of Incense and spices in the air mingling with the perfume of precious woods and floral offerings.I'm enjoying the ride but Incense is not something I like to wear.Too reminiscent of my catholic childhood.
I've name changed back to my original name .Forgotten my password for the other one.

MrsCocoa · 09/04/2016 20:22

Accidental SotD was Poison Girl. It was being enthusiastically sprayed at anyone who walked into range today in Boots. To be fair I think my daughter may have been the intended target - the assistant went on to explain, 'it's a new formulation specifically aimed at teens to 30'. Hmm
