I know it might seem like we've nothing left to say but I'm sure we have :)

I have to tell you: Seville a l'Aube is on the TK Maxx website for half price - lots of other L'Artisan perfumes but that one is very special and I wore nothing else all summer!

SOTD: Cuir de Russie. Like a fuzzy hug with vague undertones of marauding Cossacks from the 19th century.

I have some Premier Figuier Extreme, which is fruitier than the original - and so, for me, worse. Fruity notes are really difficult for me. It reminds me of an unnecessary remix of a classic record.

SOTD: Caron Farnesiana. I'm tired but I have a really long day at work today, and Farnesiana is such a comforting scent - kind of gourmet-floral marzipan and mimosa. Yet there's something a bit floridly over the top about it too, like one of those post-war Italian actresses whose default setting was smoulder. Wearing it is a bit like Claudia Cardinale walking into a cafe in Rome and ordering tea and cake.

I think this is one of the main things I love about perfume - the stories a smell makes. I'm probably only really interested in smells that tell interesting stories - maybe that's whyU have a preference for vintage scents.

FrustratedFrugal · 12/11/2015 13:47

I was too busy this morning to pick a perfume but will do so when I get home. I feel the same way about Farnesiana, it is a special treat.

Carpaccio · 12/11/2015 15:02

SOTD: Moschino Cheap & Chic. Not a massively popular perfume anymore, but I love it. Too much of it isn't nice, but it is such a comforting scent, remind me of my mum coming home from Christmas shopping.

hollinhurst84 · 12/11/2015 15:49

SOTD - Lush "something wicked"

Meant to be ginger and jasmine. I hate jasmine but this is nice. Spicy and comforting. It started as a bath melt which I adored and they discontinued

girlguide123 · 12/11/2015 17:33

ooh there's been some fantastic bargains in TKMaxx lately, I seem to have bought my own body weight in scent...

SOTD is l'artisan's oeillet sauvage. love it!

CointreauVersial · 12/11/2015 22:48

SOTD is Diptyque Volutes EdP - honey and tobacco with a slightly spicy floral note. Lasts all day, love it.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 13/11/2015 07:05

SOTD is Juliette has a Gun- Moon Dance. Got it in a sample kit and it seems quite floral at the moment.

laracroft2001 · 13/11/2015 07:19

Flightywoman- Givenchy III is still available at Harrods/Harrods online

getoffthattabletnow · 13/11/2015 08:36

Jo Malone's Nutmeg and Ginger with Gingembre by Roget and Gallet layered over.Love Gingembre - a really fresh gingery Cologne but only lasts about 30 minutes.I'd love to find a really gingery perfume but its normally obscured by other notes - Onde Sensuelle I'm looking at you!

niminypiminy · 13/11/2015 10:11

SOTD: pre-WW II Guerlain L'Heure Bleue. I bought 5 ml from 4160 Tuesday's when they had a bottle and wish I'd bought 10ml. L'Heure Bleue is one modern Guerlain that I really don't like - the jasmine catches in the back of the throat and it never softens properly. But this is a different kettle of poissons! Deep, rich, mysterious, the jasmine is integrated into the whole rather than sticking out harshly. It's lost most of its power - it's really a skin scent now - but every so often just lovely to wear wafting round the house.

niminypiminy · 13/11/2015 10:30

In fact instead of an acrid blast of jasmine there is much more rose - which is I think actually one of the notes of this scent, whereas jasmine isn't.

FrustratedFrugal · 13/11/2015 12:54

Wearing Femme from Rochas. It's a kind, warm, enveloping fruity chypre. Friendly and always on your side, like a favorite aunt, really soothing.

cressetmama · 13/11/2015 13:46

Chergui, for no reason other than I wanted to smell it again. The wind and a slightly crisper note in the air seem to call for a woodsy warmer, even if it ain't winter, yet.

Stokey · 13/11/2015 17:15

I'm wearing Chergui today too cresset, you lot have inspired me to look through my samples again and this seemed to match the weather.

Now a question. I love FM Portrait of a Lady & Chanel Coromandel, but both are basically out of my price range. Can anyone recommend me something similar at a lower price point? Or should i buy a 10ml bottle of POAL for £40?

cressetmama · 13/11/2015 17:39

I like Coromandel and don't know POAL at all but in your shoes Stokey, I'd visit Perfumed Court (again Blush) for a decant! I may have visited them earlier today as they have a code for 21% off. EARLYBLACK21. Jicky and Dzing!

QueenofLouisiana · 13/11/2015 17:43

I love reading these threads. So many new ideas.
SOTD: Jo Malone- vanilla and anise. I love the way it mellows during the day.

maybemyrtle · 13/11/2015 17:57

Hello, can I join? I bought Tea for Two blind in TK Maxx last week and it has been sotd ever since. Love the drydown. Spicy smoke. Amazing. Also bought a set of 4 mini dabber bottles, inc Timbuktu which is far soapier than I expected. Caligna is nice though. TK has had some fab bargains, I found a bottle of annick goutals nuit etoilee for £3 once, that really does smell of Christmas.

FrustratedFrugal · 13/11/2015 17:58

Stokey this site is worth a look. Perfumistas selling decants, it's basically a huge jumble sale, but you might find what you need. 10 ml of POTL will last a long time too.

FrustratedFrugal · 13/11/2015 18:01

Maybemyrtle welcome. You found some amazing things!
Femme is just a whisper now, will grab Coromandel or Coco next.

hollinhurst84 · 13/11/2015 18:04

I picked up Clean - outdoor shower fresh in TK maxx for £7
I quite like some of the Clean range, soapy and light which is nice for work

CointreauVersial · 14/11/2015 20:37

I swung by TKMaxx this afternoon; picked up Timbuktu AND Seville a l'Aube but very virtuously put them back, as my credit card is melting with all the Christmas shopping I've been doing.

I did have a little squirt of Obsession in HoF, for old time's sake. It is lovely - I would happily wear it again.

Just realised, I said earlier (while discussing L'Artisan Parfumeur) that I like Caligna. Well, I don't. It's BATUCADA that I love. Doh.

FrustratedFrugal · 15/11/2015 14:22

CV well done - tempting though.

I was looking for my Shalimar Madagascar but couldn't find it. I found a lot of other treasures, currently enjoying the sensuous cool-warm contrasts of Vega.

ToysDontWorkNoMore · 15/11/2015 14:35

Hi there my peeps! I haven't been wearing anything for the last two days (we all know that doesn't mean I've been nekkid, though!).Before that was mostly wearing my Sotto Voce, Venezia (vintage), Traversee du Bosphore, Fille En Aiguilles, and Samsara vintage edt. Have been unable to find my decant of Tom Ford Sahara Noir (is that the name?). Really crave insence now.

cressetmama · 17/11/2015 09:49

Randomly grabbed a decant this morning, without my specs on, sprayed lavishly with Le Temps d'une Fete, and was instantly reminded why I never wear it! Would anyone like an almost-full 8ml spray? Could swap or present as a gift? Any takers out there? Please shout if you're interested.

Toomuchtea · 17/11/2015 14:16

Ah - lovely, another perfume thread! I've missed our old discussions. I've taken a vow of abstinence on buying anything new as I tidied up my perfume shelf recently and was deeply ashamed at how much there is there that I love but never wear. So my aim is to rediscover them all, and actually use some of the decants up.

SOTD is Kurkdjian's Lumiere Noire, which I didn't take to on first smelling again, thought it always used to be one of my favourites. It's a big, fat, powerful rose, and it's starting to work on its magic again now, thankfully.
