I like donkeys. What book about donkey-keeping? Have I got it?

Lalsy · 17/09/2015 00:05

I commend People with Long Ears to you then, Molly. I was quite tempted by How to Avoid Large Ships and How to be Danish, but am so glad I now know how to encourage a newly delivered donkey to feed her foal, on the day of the village fete.www.abebooks.com/books/weird/

MollyLair · 17/09/2015 00:09

Oh, I have got that one. Phew.

Blackduck · 17/09/2015 06:17

I was so tempted to buy fil 'How to be Pope'. From that site....

Here the monumental shite continues........in essence we are rapidly moving to a position of too many chiefs and not enough Indians (that's probably a terribly unPC phase) and whilst it doesn't directly effect me I feel for my colleagues who are about to get four new masters in place of the one they had before...

Molly, how many books about donkey keeping do you have? Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/09/2015 08:22

I'll try and come to drinks at the Refinery. Grin But it will be DD1's birthday weekend, so she may want to go shopping so that I can buy her a huge present. I doubt it; the only things she has asked for are some sci fi books. And she may have something planned with her friends.

BD, how utterly awful. The new structure chez nous is also going to topple over with more managers of this , that and the other.??In a fit of panic yesterday I finally got through to HR and the woman who is supposed to be dealing with the 'smooth transfer' of staff to the new brooms. ha! I asked her so many questions that she either wouldn't answer or refused to even entertain, saying they were not relevant, that she has set up a meeting with me, HH and herself this morning.Shock my main guff is that I simply do not have all the information that I need to make a decision about leaving or staying. Erm, a job description would be nice, and perhaps an inkling of an idea where our dept will be located and whether out T&c s will be protected. VR is only a tiny possibility now. The money isn't worth toffee and I would need to decide by the end of tomorrow ( deadline extended). ??I am exhausted by going over and over all the variables. Dh says his head is going to break just talking about it. I know that I will just be facing even more obfuscation in this meeting. It'll be same old nonsense perhaps rephrased especially for me.Sad

Rosebag · 17/09/2015 08:57

So sorry cremo and BD that the awful situations are continuing. It must be the 'not knowing' which is the worst.

I intend to be there on the 26th...of course! I can't come to the drinks though...Would struggle to get there early and I'd look a right wimp as I'm not much of a drinker! Are we pre ordering the tapas like last time? It seemed to go down very well, what ever it was that we had.

Good luck WAF on commencing your redraft. This feels so exciting. Stay in touch, though eh?

I feel variously calm, organised, disorganised and panicky about Sunday. Not helped by irritating director's demeanor which is sometimes calm and organised and sometimes like she's flying by the seat of her pants. I am burying myself in trivia and have baked muffins and brownies...and have decided to go to the garden centre and get some ready planted containers for the front drive. I normally plant up the old ones myself with ornamental kale and winter flowering pansies but I CBA. ConS is being a bit distant..not incommunicado exactly but a bit at arms length. Confused Hmm. Having said that he did offer to do the printing of the scripts....

Ah well at least it's not raining. Smile Happy Thursday everyone.

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2015 09:02

Cremo and BD that sounds grim. I agree with Rose - not knowing must be horrible.

Rose, it sounds like Sunday will be an extravaganza!

BTM shall we book a wee table at The Refinery for drinkies? Seems easy to do it online . Happy to do it for us. < reaches weakly towards The Alcohol>

motherinferior · 17/09/2015 09:14

I haven't heard from NU. If I haven't heard by Monday I'll give her a call.

I'll make it for tapas!

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2015 09:26

Yes, that's what I was thinking Cremo - happy for you to do it!

BeachysFlipFlops · 17/09/2015 10:08

Drinks for me too, please.... Not sure what time, haven't checked my trains yet..????All peace and quiet here, Dh gone off to visit his mum, I will shortly go to visit my ddad! ????Just doing boring admin here... I also need to face the challenge in the corner of the kitchen - DH bought me a Kitchenaid for my birthday and it keeps looking at me expectantly. I've never had a stand mixer before, just a hand held, and would welcome any advice/recipes from anyone.... Wibble !!??

MollyLair · 17/09/2015 10:29

MrsS, ds really loved this sci-fi/post apocalyptic book, as did I:

www.amazon.co.uk/Station-Eleven-Emily-John-Mandel-ebook/dp/B00JQ9FYAM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442481982&sr=8-1&keywords=station+elev

The Martian is another sci fi book which is about to come out as a film and ds is raving about it.

Lalsy, you might be surprised how many books about equines I have. Grin Our back garden is crying out for a donkey. Or a very small pony.

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/09/2015 10:40

Oh how funny, I have just picked up a copy of The Martian for her - recommended by a friend! Will look at the other one. Am also thinking of a couple more John Wyndham books. I feel I should get her something a bit more substantial too... but what?

BD and Cremo, that sounds beyond shit for both of you.

I'm a crepe, I'm a weirdo?

wordassociationfootball · 17/09/2015 12:04

Can I pop to just drinks? Drawn to see all of you but in particular, would love to have RL sighting of La Crem.

So sorry for all continuing work woes. My DH is abruptly backing out of job he started in April, much wounded, with nothing to go to. Big wibble.

herbaceous · 17/09/2015 13:04

To be clear, I can probably make drinks, and will not be bringing DS!

Good thing today: friend and I came up with even better theme for party (to which you're all invited, natch) - Saga cruise. 'Come dressed for the captain's table'. Blow-up palm trees, silvery glittery curtains, and a buffet involving carved fruit.

Bad thing: one of DS's class mates was handing out invitations to his party, and DS didn't get one. Bit rude. And he'd been invited to DS's party, too! And said yes, and then didn't turn up! No manners some people [cat's bum mouth] [hoists bosom].

BeachysFlipFlops · 17/09/2015 13:05

Oh I loved Station Eleven and I hate sci-fi. I've just given it to sil for her bday.

Crispy leaves do not a Crepey make or The Falling Leaves of Crepeydom (although that's a bit depressing!)

Or ' Our crepey necks are the same age as Jeremy Corbyn'

herbaceous · 17/09/2015 13:10

Corbyn's crepeys? Though CV wouldn't approve!

motherinferior · 17/09/2015 13:19

That's superb, Herbs.
