If you use bars of soap instead of gel what do you use?

Just that Smile

Went to a holiday cottage and there was a glass jar with unwrapped bars of soap in there and I brought one home with me, huge bar and smells vaguely familiar. I'm coming to the end of it now and am desperate to find some more.

It's a white bar, no name on it. First thing I thought of was Camay but can't seem to find it anywhere.

So I need to find a replacement if my beloved soap can't be replaced, any suggestions gratefully received Smile

24 soaps a year is a lot for me and DD nice and that is just from the soap club. I always buy nice soaps if I see them anywhere so we end up with far more soap than we need. I find that the handmade soaps do discolour if you don't use them quick enough - even though they are still fine so if I am stuck a soap it is!

We bring ours back from holiday with us. The lady who owns the cottage we stay in makes soap from the olives in the garden and gives us lots to bring home. Apparently all the elderly ladies in the village get together each year and make soap from their olive oil. Its all lumpy and bumpy so isnt a thing of beauty and its unscented, but oh, its so lovely on your skin.

I've been using Dove for ages because it's all my DH will use, but I've decided to branch out. I wenpt into L'Occitane yesterday to sniff all the soaps and treated myself to their verbena one. I haven't used it yet but I can't wait!

Dancergirl I have just been to the Cornwall Soapbox shop in St Ives, thanks for the recommendation, I bought a few to try. Loving the soap after years of shower gel, I always worried about dry skin but my stock of dusty L'Occitane is not drying at all so I am experimenting.

Body gel is preferred than soap as soap contains high PH levels. So it can be harmful to your skin.

Sgtmajormummy that was sheild - can still get in some pundshops and I think Savers.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia funny I was going to mention Knight's Castile! I am another Karma fan. Totally love the smell. Will have to buy some more I think. Also lked Cidal. Loved the Bronnley lemon shaped (and smelling) soaps too - always asked for some at Christmas.

For every day I like Dove with the scrubby bits in, but I've just bought some African Black soap thanks to this thread.

I really like the giant bars of Italian soap from Holland and Barrett, they have fancy paper wrappers and look a bit TK Maxx-ish. The 'manly' fragrances smell super fresh and I always buy them for male relatives as stocking fillers.

AndromedaPerseus · 05/10/2017 21:49

The Waitrose clementine &ginger soap is lovely for everyday use. Nesti Dante and Occitane for luxuryTKMaxx is a good place for discount luxury soaps

This popped up on TIO (under a NC) so I thought I would share my latest discovery alright I heard about them somewhere else on MN Grin - soap bags!

They are brilliant, stop the soap going all soggy and lather soap up into huge bubbles, they're also great for bubble bar type things from Lush. Or solid shampoos/conditioner.

Loads available, from Amazon or Etsy etc. I have them with little hooks to hang off the shower tray. I'm sure they make the soap last longer too.

I love soap.

I love Cidal soap , very fresh and citrusy though getting harder to source. DH has a bar of Wright’s coal tar on the go upstairs , it’s a bit smelly for me. Since swapping to soap we all have better skin and my teenage DS whose clothes used to reek even after washing , is no longer smelly. Would never go back to shower gel.
