If you use bars of soap instead of gel what do you use?

Just that Smile

Went to a holiday cottage and there was a glass jar with unwrapped bars of soap in there and I brought one home with me, huge bar and smells vaguely familiar. I'm coming to the end of it now and am desperate to find some more.

It's a white bar, no name on it. First thing I thought of was Camay but can't seem to find it anywhere.

So I need to find a replacement if my beloved soap can't be replaced, any suggestions gratefully received Smile

Oh and Scottish fine soap (the tin ones). Have seen the Jasmine one in TK maxx
I have a loathing for Jasmine so tend to spot it a mile off Grin

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 03/08/2015 08:16

Thank you for overcoming your jasmine aversion for those recommendations:o

I'm in town on Wednesday so I'll see what I can find :)

Glad you found what you were looking for - I now want the Waitrose soap, good excuse for a visit this week!

It just smells fresh btw, I wouldn't have identified it as lemon.

Our Waitrose doesn't have it although they do all the others. I see it can't be ordered online either so wonder if they are discontinuing it. (Now I'm desperate to get some).

Love this thread!
If feeling flush I like dipalomo wild fig and grape www.dipalomo.com/wild-fig-and-grape/wild-fig-grape-large-soap-2.
Otherwise Tesco own brand cocoa butter or lavender.
Will try the Waitrose one now too!
Agree that opening a new bar an taking in a lungful of joyfulness is one of life's simple pleasures! Smile

Neem soap for me - 'tis heavenly!

Stitchintime1 · 05/08/2015 17:40

I have soap. Some fancy stuff - triple milled whatever that means. I've also bought some for childhood memories. Imperial Leather, Cidral and Shield. I can't believe how cheap they are.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/08/2015 18:04

I'd better stock pile!Shock

I've just used a bar of shield soap (sent to me in France by my mum).

It just feels so fresh and clean. I think I'll definitely be using more soap from now on.

Roonerspism · 05/08/2015 22:38

Well, I have tried the African soap and I do like it - and the kids love it!

But it's a bit slimy so it's not quite soap perfection. Then I remembered the bar of Dr Bronner's Almond soap I found in TKMaxx last month.

I softly unwrapped it, like a child at Christmas and unleashed the most gorgeous scent of almond. Aaah, soap heaven.

So it's Dr Bronner's hard soap for me, for now

Drywhiteplease · 05/08/2015 23:12

I buy a French cheap soap called Mon Savon from French supermarkets. Smells of milk Hmm and lavender, reminds me of my French grandmother. Lovely. Smile

IPokeBadgers · 06/08/2015 09:34

I buy soaps from the soap man at the Belfast Christmas continental market: all lovely big chunky bars of either Marseille or Provence [think it is Marseille] Savon. I am currently using a shea butter one that definitely give L'occitane a run for it's money.

Absolutely gorgeous....and of little help to the OP, sorry! Smile

I live in Africa and have no clue what Black African soap is Grin

You would think it would be readily available here from the name..... Wink

Bars of soap are still the most popular here, the shower gels are a bit pricy. When we get older visitors from UK, they usually always take back the red Lifebuoy soap, they do come in other that red now though too Wink

The more popular are Palmolive, Lux, Protex, Pears and Vinolia which reminds be of my Nana. She used the lavender and sandalwood ones.

ClaudiaNaughton · 06/08/2015 15:38

Dame, Waitrose looked it up for me and it has been "deleted".

Nonnainglese · 06/08/2015 17:32

Dame bought some yesterday in Waitrose, so still on the shelf here Hmm

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/08/2015 19:33

Yeah, I bought some. Going in tomorrow to stock up though!

Red Lifebuoy! I love carbolic soap.
Just remembered that our local "saw you coming" shop has Savin de Marseillaise in-might have to invest in a few bars. Though when dd re organised the linen cupboard she found 15 bars, including some cosmetics to go soaps-they went under about twenty years ago!

nicestrongtea · 06/08/2015 20:16

Went to Waitrose for investigative purposes and there were no bars but lots of the hand wash and bubble bath, so I bought several as I like this fragrance

BUT Grin I did buy lots of the citrus and white tea and the pink grapefruit and orange blossom. Both are gorgeous .
8 bars of each Blush

Fizrim · 06/08/2015 22:27

strongly considers scrapping planned Friday trip to see the Minions in favour of soap shopping ...

I will investigate the local Waitrose and report back.

I bought some lovely handwash in Lidl the other week, Vanilla scented.

Stitchintime1 · 07/08/2015 04:59

Waitrose beckons here too.

iamEarthymama · 07/08/2015 05:16

We have a vintage type shop in Cardiff called Annie's. Lots of lovely things that recall my childhood.
DW and I were delighted to find pink carbolic soap!
The smell transports me back to my grandparents home.
Now our grandchildren are the same; they love washing their hands and love the smell. I hope I am creating memories ????
Oh and it lasts forever!
I also like Dr Bronner

Fizrim · 07/08/2015 18:59

Didn't make Waitrose just yet, but did buy some Shield soap from Tesco today. DD has already recoiled at the strong scent, the child has no taste in soap good job I didn't get the coal tar stuff Grin

Minions was a great film.
