If you use bars of soap instead of gel what do you use?

Just that Smile

Went to a holiday cottage and there was a glass jar with unwrapped bars of soap in there and I brought one home with me, huge bar and smells vaguely familiar. I'm coming to the end of it now and am desperate to find some more.

It's a white bar, no name on it. First thing I thought of was Camay but can't seem to find it anywhere.

So I need to find a replacement if my beloved soap can't be replaced, any suggestions gratefully received Smile

I like Dr Brommers liquid soap in Almond. I have it in a pump bottle in the shower.

Dancergirl · 07/08/2015 19:41

I don't know if they've been mentioned but I LOVE the Cornwall Soap Box soaps.

BabCNesbitt · 07/08/2015 20:59

Ah, just remembered another soap that I love and is pretty cheap! Faith in Nature do gorgeous bar soaps. If you like citrussy scents, the grapefruit one is wonderful. And they're usually not more than about £2.50 a bar.

Loccitane Almond shower oil is also lovely, very moisturising and goes all milky when you apply it...

I went to another Waitrose yesterday they had every kind except Dames favourite.

I also went to Liberty and ended up buying some Nesti Dante Villages and Monastries and a Roger & Gallet Bois d'Orange in a travel coantainer which I will keep on the side of the bath.

This week I have purchased 16 bars of Waitrose soap,4 bars of Dudu Osun ( 20p each!) one bar of Nesti Dante and one Roger&GalletBlush

I will add the wrapped soaps to the basket containing about 50 bars already Blush and the unwrapped ones, Im going to get a glass jar for.

I need helpGrin

Misssss · 08/08/2015 12:51

Tea, where did you get Dudu Osun for 20p?! I hear you on the soap addiction.

WhereAreMyDragons · 08/08/2015 13:30

I just use plain old Dove for washing and shaving my legs but when I'm almost done in the shower I use L'Occitane verbena shower gel....I can sometimes go overboard with my washing routine Grin

Sazzle41 · 08/08/2015 14:06

I bet its Camay - which i love but you can only find in little independant chemists or on Amazon these days. There is a pink and white bar and they are both gorgeous smelling and not too drying. My DP used to love the smell of it on my skin ...and normally he would never notice stuff like that.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 08/08/2015 18:13

I have a bar of jasmine soap now, all hail TK Maxx :o

I will be having a boil in the shower with it later.

I remember now why I stopped using soap. My skin is all itchy. Shame.

Roonerspism · 09/08/2015 22:25

Even natural soaps, Stitch? There are lots of chemicals in most. Have you tried Dr Bronners?

cressetmama · 10/08/2015 09:40

Flowers Flowers for those posters who suggested Nesti Dante soaps. The bars are huge and the smell is delicious, and way cheaper than R&G, which has been DH's rather spendy bathroom luxe!

Roonerspism · 10/08/2015 11:00

Are the Nesti Dante soaps natural? Can't find their ingredients online

Pumpkinette · 10/08/2015 11:15

At the moment I am using Dr Organic Manuka Honey soap. I love the smell and it leaves my skin nice and soft (my sensitive skin is prone to feeling tight and itch with a lot of soaps) I might try out something else in the range next time.

DrDreReturns · 28/08/2015 16:38

Imperial Leather - it smells lovely.
I don't like Dove, I think because it's moisturising it feels like it hasn't rinsed off my skin properly.

PurpleHairAndPearls · 28/08/2015 16:49

I love bar soap. I think it encourages better hand washing too.

I do like the pink Lush one that smells sweet, think it is Rockstar? Also Figs and Leaves.

I like the smell of the African black soap, but find it leaves trails of what looks like dirty water on the sink

Has anyone said the lemon one shaped like a Lemon and wrapped in paper? My maternal grandmother always used this one and I used to see it in little chemists occasionally.

magimedi · 28/08/2015 17:19

I use Simple soap in the shower as can get irritated by scented ones.

My favourite soap came from: La Savonnerie at 9 rue Cros Mayrevielle, Carcassonne. It is seaweed scented, which I know doesn't sound nice but it smells just like the sea. It was a present & I only use it for hand washing. Apparently it is the most beautiful shop.

holmessweetholmes · 30/08/2015 20:51

This thread has inspired me to ditch the shower gel and go back to soap. Looking forward to trying some of the fancy ones you've mentioned, but am currently loving good old Palmolive. Such a gentle, fresh smell.

Bodicea · 30/08/2015 20:57

Dr bronners the baby one.

nicestrongtea · 30/08/2015 21:32

Sorry this has just popped onto my active convos again.
Didnt see your post Misss

It was an Amazon purchase- there is some for 69p and 80p atm but of course you still have to pay postage.

Nice to see some new converts holmes

I got a lovely big glass jar and all my unwrapped soaps are in there.
My DC are thinking up ways to use them in a Zombie apocalypse Grin

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 30/08/2015 21:44

oh...I felt sure it'd be Knight's Castile!

I often buy soap, dh regards shower gel as not quite decent, but does like the Natural Source tea tree one.

Soap...Knight's Castile, Imperial leather and sometimes Home Bargains have Cidal.....very citrusy

I love the lush Karma soap, I bought some the other day and I can smell it as I walk up the stairs past the bathroom!

QueenPigSmoothCheeks · 30/08/2015 21:53

Dudu Osun does leave loads of brown residue in the basin. I now have two unwanted bars.

Will try the Manuka Honey soap instead as the lilac natural one I purchased from eBay is also falling apart in the dish.

nicestrongtea · 30/08/2015 21:57

I keep mine (Dudu Osan) in a soap dish of its own on the edge of the bath and use it to wash my feet in the bath after a hard day on them .
Its lovely and zesty.
Too messy for keeping on the sink and washing hands.

lavendersun · 30/08/2015 21:58

I have got really sensitive skin - one of my luxuries is hand made soaps. I always buy some from the woman near the Transport Museum when I go to Covent Garden, but from a local co near home.

I quite like Tissarand and Sen Spa Dead Sea soap or whatever it is called if I see it on offer.

But the best has to be from the Isle of Mull Soap Co, they have a soap club where you can choose to have 1 or more soaps a month delivered (direct debit), it is really good stuff, we love the Mull Heather.

I have a big glass bowl stuffed to the brim with soaps in my bathroom - am never short of a school raffle prize Grin.

nicestrongtea · 30/08/2015 22:02

You give away your soaps? Shock NOT.A.CHANCE.
I give all the manky cheap chocolate we get given or recycle what I win in the previous raffle!
