If you use bars of soap instead of gel what do you use?

Just that Smile

Went to a holiday cottage and there was a glass jar with unwrapped bars of soap in there and I brought one home with me, huge bar and smells vaguely familiar. I'm coming to the end of it now and am desperate to find some more.

It's a white bar, no name on it. First thing I thought of was Camay but can't seem to find it anywhere.

So I need to find a replacement if my beloved soap can't be replaced, any suggestions gratefully received Smile

I use L'occitane soaps , I do have a variety but particularly like the white milk one .

Frolicacid · 01/08/2015 21:07

Another vote for dove. Does wanders for my dry, sensitive skin.

It's funny how I now think of soap as a lovely treat. After years of using shower gels. I still buy them, but my household can go through them like water.
I get all excited to open a new bar, and love the soft lather of the African soap, I'm all covered in bubbles.

I even lather up the fanjo too. Smile

Beautifullymixed · 01/08/2015 21:13

OP sorry for lowering the tone Blush

Beautifully mixed Blush

Grin

love soap

Imperial leather eats the skin off me. I bet it was a supermarket own. Could you ring the cottage owners?

thehousewife · 01/08/2015 21:16

I'm a pears lover Smile

Sparklingbrook · 01/08/2015 21:16

Ooh I don't do fanjo lathering with soap. Sad PH balance and all that.

ravenAK · 01/08/2015 21:19

Coal tar in blocks of 4 from Home Bargains Grin. I love the clean, slightly TCP-y smell. used to sniff hard toilet paper at school

Sparklingbrook · 01/08/2015 21:20

I used coal tar once when I had a bit of dermatitis and Ds2 moaned it reeked the whole upstairs out. Sad

I much prefer soap to shower gel. I keep being given shower gel at Christmas and it always ends up on the tombola at the church fete. I like Imperial Leather or Dove. I will look out for l'Occitane.

www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=pure+raw+african+black+soap&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=52265907406&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13409234095245430715&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=t&ref=pd_sl_8va93r30h4_bAm liking the sound of the black african soap but not sure which brand ? Have seen these on amazon, is this the right thing ?

HippyPottyMouth · 01/08/2015 21:33

I use whatever's in the reduced at TXMaxx. I love posh soap, and my skin is much happier than with shower gel.

SuperFlyHigh · 01/08/2015 21:36

I use Simple on my bottom and fanjo area....

But pears is very nostalgic and comforting!

treaclesoda · 01/08/2015 21:39

I've only ever tried one brand of African black soap and it's much cheaper than those ones. I think it's called Dudu Oson or something similar. It smells gorgeous.

Beautifullymixed · 01/08/2015 21:42

It's been so long I've forgotten how to link!
Anyway, it's this one in the picture, and available in prime if I run low.
My dcs love it too.

If you use bars of soap instead of gel what do you use?
Tweezertastic · 01/08/2015 21:54

Locctaine verbena

FishWithABicycle · 01/08/2015 22:10

I buy multipack gift boxes of royal horticultural society rose soap (originally got hooked via National Trust gift shops but have since discovered them on amazon) - I hadn't realised there were different qualities of soap bar but these ones are so smooth and luxurious I'd hate to go back to ordinary soap bars now. It's getting really difficult to find bar soap in shops though.

pussinboots61 · 01/08/2015 22:40

Does anyone here use soap on their face? I always thought soap wasn't used as much these days and that shower gel was all the rage, bars of soap have always tended to be classed as messy and not very hygienic but I am now tempted by it and I find the shower gels don't last that long. I have eczema however and have been advised to steer clear of soap as it's drying but surely there are soaps which are suitable for eczema.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/08/2015 22:42

No I use E45 wash, no way would I use soap on my face!

Try Arran Aromatics soaps. Lovely.

HowlyBabblyBansheeeeeee · 01/08/2015 22:47

I have very dry skin and have recently discovered the oilatum soap bar. Wish I tried it years ago.

Bunbaker · 01/08/2015 22:48

It is Fish. I don't understand why shower gel is so popular. Give me soap any time.

TeresaGiudicesForehead · 01/08/2015 23:08

I use Dr Bronners. it's lovely

treaclesoda · 01/08/2015 23:23

Unwrapping a new bar of soap is one of life's simple pleasures. Cracking open the lid on a shower gel doesn't come close. Smile
