If you use bars of soap instead of gel what do you use?

Just that Smile

Went to a holiday cottage and there was a glass jar with unwrapped bars of soap in there and I brought one home with me, huge bar and smells vaguely familiar. I'm coming to the end of it now and am desperate to find some more.

It's a white bar, no name on it. First thing I thought of was Camay but can't seem to find it anywhere.

So I need to find a replacement if my beloved soap can't be replaced, any suggestions gratefully received Smile

Why don't you email the cottage owners and ask them?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/08/2015 13:25

Oooooooo good idea !

Imperial leather. Love the old school smell!

WanderWomble · 02/08/2015 13:34

Why not contact the owners of the holiday home and ask them what it was?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/08/2015 13:47

I've just tried out the lemon and amber one and compared it to the one I already have - IT'S THE SAME GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

THANK YOU Thanks

Ooh! Love recommendations like this!

It's why I love MN S & B

I find all varieties of Lush soap badly drying for the skin. I've given up now - shame because they look gorgeous, but I can't walk around all day with tight-as-fuck skin. Dove is brilliant.

L'Occitane Shea Milk (though I have very hard water which uses it quicker). I took a bar on holiday (soft water) and even after a week of use I could still see the embossed name.

L'Occitane Verbena (leaf shaped)

L'Occitane Cinnamon and Orange for Christmas Grin

I have a few bars in my underwear drawer, I'm inspired to use them (once I've used all the random bits in the bathroom)

nicestrongtea · 02/08/2015 16:30

My favs are Roger et Gallet Bois d'Orange.
Any L'Occitane ,Molten Brown Milk soap and their gorgeous clear soaps- both only seem to come out at Christmas.

I also put Waitrose out for the family and hide my nice soap and am fond of Nivea soap.

Just to say, folks, when you're travelling, keep your bar of soap in a food quality plastic bag. Tries out a treat with no mess. Smile

nicestrongtea · 02/08/2015 16:50

A plastic bag?? Shock

DopeyDawg · 02/08/2015 16:58

Pears.
Though they changed it!!!!!!

Because the kids put liquid soap on their hands then just let it slide off down the drain. If they have to wrestle with a bar they are more likely to get some on their hands :)

Only for wash hand basins though.

Shower gel for shower.

nicestrongtea · 02/08/2015 17:40

I use liquid soap for hand washing really don't want poo germs on my soap

Bar of soap for shower - mine I only I get to use.

FrugalFashionista · 02/08/2015 17:42

Muji have small translucent travel soap boxes. You can slice a bigger soap bar with a sharp knife.

SuburbanRhonda · 02/08/2015 17:55

Poo germs on your soap?

Unless you wash your hands surgeon-style (turning on the taps with your elbows and not touching any surface until your hands are completely scrubbed and germ-free), your poo germs are going to end up somewhere. Like on the cistern handle, for instance.

Lush change their soap base from time to time to ensure its never using ingredients tested on animals so might be worth another try. Its my favourite place for soaps- loads of choice, really creamy and moisturizing and they even do facial soaps and solid shampoo bars.

I agree that soap feels like a real luxury although in reality its probably cheaper than shower gel as it lasts ages. Love this thread!

Doilooklikeatourist · 02/08/2015 19:23

My favourite soap is Bronley lemon shape
Brings back memories of a happy childhood Christmas , as Gma loved these ( and I do too , and I've trained my children )
Yes yes to TK Maxx , there are lots of lovely soaps there

nicestrongtea · 02/08/2015 19:26

Im a HCP !Rhonda

Very fussy about hand washing here Grin I also touch lift buttons with my elbows

BabCNesbitt · 02/08/2015 20:40

Lush soaps always seem to go mushy really quickly though - perhaps storing them in a drawer until they dry out would help?

For bar soap by the sink, we just shove a couple of beer caps into the underside. It raises the soap off the sink and amazingly it doesn't send it skidding into the sink every time.

Sgtmajormummy · 02/08/2015 22:02

I was in somebody's utility room and they had a MAGNETIC wall mounted soap holder, where you press a metal stud into the soap and it just hangs there to dry off! Going a bit far to avoid mushy soap, I thought...

BabCNesbitt · 02/08/2015 22:49

Oh god, we had one of those when we were growing up, I totally forgot! They used to be fairly commonplace, I think?

Branleuse · 02/08/2015 22:59

i use a sandalwood soap I get in sainsburys.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/08/2015 23:46

We had a soap magnet too.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 03/08/2015 02:08

Does anybody know of a decent jasmine soap please? Or failing that, a perfume with jasmine notes in that isn't too heavy?

goodasitgets · 03/08/2015 02:39

Off the top of my head woods of Windsor, floris and l'occitane all do Jasmine soaps
