How pretty do you have to be to pull off a pixie cut?

Short hair suits me (IMHO) but ATM I have a longish fringe and some body to it.

I'm thinking of going much shorter because the current do takes quite a bit of doing, can't take any moisture in the air without flopping and I think it's a bit dated/aging.

However, I'm an ordinary looking middle aged woman, rarely wear make-up and I have a larger than average nose!

I think really short and flat is much more flattering than a long fringe or spiky. I wish I had tried it before I was too old just out of curiosity Go for it!

You can't treat a pixie cut as low maintenence. It is LM in a day to day sense, but it must be kept trimmed. You need to pop in for a trim as often as men with very short traditional cuts. Weekly or bi-weekly. If it grows out much at all, it isnt a pixie anymore, it's just a weird short haircut.

It also needs eye emphasizing make up/glasses.

I'm just in the process of growing out a pixie. I am 45 and very ordinary looking, but I do think it suited me. Agree that you need trims far more often than you might anticipate. I also needed more makeup than I might usually wear - especially lipstick.

Kate Moss looked terrible with a crop even though she's beautiful and has amazing bone structure. It's one of those 'take the leap and find out' style choices.

I would like a pixie cut. But I also have a very very large forehead so a charlize theron, Halle berry, emma Watson short fringe would look hideous. I think a large forehead w/ short fringe is a mistake and could look frankenstein-y. Just another consideration tk bear in mind alongside hair line/shape. Also, any cows licks are very noticeable with a short style. I had a posh spice cut circa 2000 when I was a teen. I have a massive cow's lick at the front.and a smaller one in the crown. Blagh. I don't know why the stylist didn't tell me not to do it!

At its shortest, mine needed trimming every four weeks.

I think most people look better with short hair. Pixie is my favourite style. Do it!

Oh I dyed mine that exact colour of KMs in that pic today.
My sides are shorter than the KM pic ones but the top is probably the same length. I've trying to push it up atm, it's looking like I've slept on it wrong so far Hmm.
I cut my own, usually clipper the back and sides and cut into the top with scissors.
Short hair can be versatile, my top and fringe was much longer before and I had it bleach blonde. All you have to do is cut it and it's in good condition again Grin

DD is 17 and has a pixie. She has very thick hair so I use the clippers to thin it out. She realky suits short hair.

For a v short time only, I've put a picture on my profile of me with a pixie. My nose looks enormous, and as you will see, I am neither young nor pretty. I liked it though! :)

I think very short hair suits most women actually. There's nothing worse than really long hair that isn't done anything with or a bob that is over styled. I think a pixie cut can be really beautiful and is very low maintenance.

I miss my pixie cut... I might do it again :) I've recently had my very long hair cut quite short and I really prefer it. Feels so much better. I'm never going to be Ruby Rose or Ginnifer Goodwin but I can live with that. Grin

My mum is 67 and recently had a pixie cut when she didn't mean to (they cut it too short) and it looks amazing. Really suits her. She hates it though and reckons she looks like gollum Grin

Noddy - Thank you so much, but I think you might need a trip to Specsavers. Grin

I have a pixie with a side fringe (my forehead is way too big and pale to have a short fringe). I'm not pretty and I have a strong jaw. I like to aim for 'striking' Grin

I've had my hair both long and short and short really works better for me, partly because my hair is very fine and looks a bit wispy long.

I do agree it needs a good hairdresser. I've had some really bad short cuts from time to time.

I think pixie / v. short just suits some people. My DM is in her 70s, recently tried a longer style, and it really doesn't work - she looks massively better with properly short hair.

I'm good with either very short or long enough to wear up (which I guess gives the same effect). DD has also just gone from a bob to a slightly longer crop, and although I was a bit dubious, she looks fab.

I wouldn't say any of us except dd are pretty (and I may be biased there Grin ) but we're all small built and hence small facial features.

Don't forget that Judi Dench is neither young, slim or beautiful and looks great with a pixie cut.
