How pretty do you have to be to pull off a pixie cut?

Short hair suits me (IMHO) but ATM I have a longish fringe and some body to it.

I'm thinking of going much shorter because the current do takes quite a bit of doing, can't take any moisture in the air without flopping and I think it's a bit dated/aging.

However, I'm an ordinary looking middle aged woman, rarely wear make-up and I have a larger than average nose!

joyce I'm using shitloads of hair grips to pin it down. I gave in and cropped it a few months ago but I'm persevering this time round.

I do agree with needing a good hairdresser that knows what they're doing with short hair.

GoodOld that is the exact same haircut I have, same colour too (I don't look as good as Charlize though...)

Telephone - what's silicone free WRT haircare?

I love that pic of Charlize Theron.

I suppose my hair is that style but my colour isn't light enough.

Had it done recently but I think I might try an all over colour.

I like hats but find only a few styles suit me. I also have a v small head, so finding them to fit is a nightmare! When I do find one, I pretty much wear it to death.

This is my best find of the last few years.

I had a pixie ish cut about five weeks ago. I went from hair down to my bra strap to an an assymetric crop and now I'm used to it I am getting rid of the assymetric bit. Thanks to this thread I know to be clear and state nothing spiky or pouffy (why do hairdressers think we all want this?)

I'm not particularly pretty or twiggy, usually about a size 12 but pregnant (and looking a bit knackered) so carrying more padding than I'd like. But I think I pull it off well, it's just very different from before.

For me prettiness doesn't come into it - I'm neither exceptionally pretty nor ugly and I have a pixie - well a bit longer as it needs a good cut at the moment. My nose isn't huge but certainly isn't small.
Good cheekbones and no saggy under chin/neck fat are what makes a pixie look good imo.

I tried my mums new wig on a few weeks ago and was horrified at how I looked with long hair again - I won't be growing mine back any time soon :)

Here are my before and after pics. Don't think I'm that pretty but short hair definitely suits me more than longer hair did.

This is mine. Not a v good picture - but gives a general idea of face shape.

My hair had been shoulder length for a few years - I was just fed up of it. If it wasn't tied up it was just 'there'.

Much easier now.

This is me with Madonna ....
Ok just joking but my hair's a similar shape and colour to this. I'm not pretty but I do have a small face and short hair shows off my cheekbones.

Mygasisflabbered you look like a completely different person with a short crop...your eyes look huge and you look so pretty. A bit like Audrey Tautou

How about a short but feathered look, so you can roll brush it outwards?
Unless you bouff it up at the back and spend a while blow drying it there for volume I'd steer clear if you have a big nose.

There is no weight limit on it but I would avoid if you have a double chin too. Best bit about chin length hair is hiding those bad boys from sneaky sideways photos Smile

[http://www.latest-hairstyles.com/bobs/chin-length.html] how about some of these rather than a pixie? Bit more versatile too. (Some are not so nice, but such is t'internet).

Coco, love the dark brown on you, but maybe it's because you are smiling!

Some lovely styles on that link, Lion, and less severe than the full pixie.

I agree that pixie cuts only really work on people with a defined bone structure - not very forgiving to double chins.

Someone like Frankie from the Saturdays pulls it off well because she's so elfin-like. But on others the same cut would look very matronly.

Coco, you really suit the darker colour

much softer

If you have a defined jaw line rather then a double chin, you can probably take a short hair cut.

And a medium or small face too

Coco love the variety of colours. :)

Is your natural colour dark ? Mine is, but I fancy being a blonde! Currently sporting some blond highlights, but not enough imo.

RiverCam it means I'm not using hair products with silicone in them, any more. Pretty much cuts out all (affordable) hairspray, styling products, serums, and most shampoos & conditioners.

When I had a pixie cut, I didn't put anything on it maybe that's where I was going wrong
