How pretty do you have to be to pull off a pixie cut?

Short hair suits me (IMHO) but ATM I have a longish fringe and some body to it.

I'm thinking of going much shorter because the current do takes quite a bit of doing, can't take any moisture in the air without flopping and I think it's a bit dated/aging.

However, I'm an ordinary looking middle aged woman, rarely wear make-up and I have a larger than average nose!

Plonky Wow! You look fantastic.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/06/2015 16:45

Would be v interested to know what products people use.

Mine is growing out and rather shaggy and shapeless at the moment. My aim is to try to get it to something liken this before deciding if I want to get it all hacked off again or not. If I then decide to go v short again, I'm thinking of something like this.

chiruri · 23/06/2015 16:58

I'm currently growing out my pixie but this thread is making me REALLY want to cut it in again!
I have a slightly long oval face with ok cheekbones and jaw, and fairly delicate features. I know I suited the 'Jennifer Lawrence' style pixie with it longer on top and very tight in the sides and back. Colour was also really important, either peroxide blonde or ombré dark to pale blonde (pictured), to make it look interesting. What was annoying was needing it trimmed every 6 weeks, but sometimes I really miss it. I've been growing it out for a year now and my hair is currently a bob at the nape of my neck.
I think knowing your face shape and modifying the cut to suit it is the important thing. I don't really get away with a shirt fringe because of my long face, but at least I know that! A good hairdresser should be able to help.

I have had short hair for a while now.

I had one very short side and one longer before everyone else in the world seemed to have it.

I grew it out for a while and gave up on it. I now have one side cut right short above my ear but the other side is jaw length and layered to give it texture. I am growing my short ear side out and then will go for another shorter style.

I have a round face. Average looking.

I do have to straighten it every day and sometimes bits stick up where I don't want them to and I need to get it thinned a lot as I have super thick frizzy hair, so it's not an easy cut but hair is hard to style no matter how I have it.

I would go pixie but I think I need some length on at least one side to make my face less round.

Plonkysaurus · 23/06/2015 18:31

pnutter I do! This haircut has cut my age in half!

Thanks bitofaboost Grin

U2 I've always been told I have a round face and presumed I'd need the long bit on one side to pull off short hair. I Think it's a myth! If you want short hair and have a hairdresser you trust I'd see what they think. Like you my hair is thick and prone to frizz. Having it anything like chin length is just too much like hard work!

Melonfool · 23/06/2015 18:43

Gah - I'm so jealous, I'd love a cut like those really short ones.

I can't have it for a few reasons - I wear glasses, so I'd look like Deirdre Barlow. My back hairline is really low, messy (one side grows up, the other directly out) and the hair there gets really thick. And the rest of my hair is fine and quite thin - so the fringe would just stick out.

I've had short hair before but the back drives me crazy, if I can manage to find a hairdresser who can do it at all I'm lucky, but it needs cutting again every two weeks.

I have a boring bob, without a fringe, which generally means it gets shoved behind my ears and looks even more boring.

I might see what the hairdresser thinks about going shorter and putting some layers in to make it flippy for summer (but not flyaway, therein lies the dichotomy). I have an appointment next week.

Cocolepew · 23/06/2015 18:47

I used to use a toni and guy wax stick, it wasn't greasy, it was hard. I can't find it anymore and Im not happy.
Im using another was stick atm, it's much greasier but works ok on the bleach as it dries my hair out.

hazeyjane · 23/06/2015 18:59

This is mine. I have it cut very short every few weeks. Have just stopped colouring so it is pretty grey, but I actually quite like it like that. I use Black&White wax, but think that is best on really really short styles.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 23/06/2015 19:21

Coco Try the Label.M Pliable Definer or Miracle Fibre from Toni&Guy. They're brilliant for short hair. I think the Pliable Definer replaced the wax stick when Label.M came out if it's the same product I'm thinking of.

Or Kevin Murphy Night Rider. It's more expensive but a tub will last you well over a year and it smells like tangerines.

I've worked for T&G and Miracle Fibre is my personal favourite short hair product ever. With all of them though you have to really work them really smoothly into your hands first or you get nice white blobs of product that won't come out for love nor money!

Cocolepew · 23/06/2015 19:39

Thanks StayGold Smile. The wax stick used to last forever, I'll have a look at those you mentioned.

ouryve · 23/06/2015 19:46

Redken rough clay gives a nice matt finish. I have discarded several that, even if they claim to be matt, leave my hair looking greasy. I finally took notice of what my hairdresser used and bought some of that!

Hazey, your hair is gorgeous (as are so many others, here!)

NeitherHereOrThere · 23/06/2015 20:57

I use Redken Wax and Spray - fab for fine hair which can't take much product without wilting. I scrunch my hair immediately after spraying on the wax to give it extra body.

Loafline · 23/06/2015 21:07

Hazey you look fab! Taking note of product suggestions!

GoingAnonForPixieThread · 24/06/2015 10:41

Wow, all you pixies look amazing!

Is anyone still around? If so, can I put a picture on my profile quickly and ask you experts whether you think I could carry off a pixie cut...? Am desperate for one but am chicken....

BonnieNoClyde · 24/06/2015 10:47

i can't view your profile!

noddyholder · 24/06/2015 10:49

You all without exception look stunning!

GoingAnonForPixieThread · 24/06/2015 10:53

Sorry Bonnie, thank you for looking. Should be visible now...

BonnieNoClyde · 24/06/2015 11:02

no. still can't! when I put my cursor under your screen name, no black line appears beneath it. Like, when I put my cursor on noddyholder, that black appears, but not under your name. Your settings are like loafline's. I can't click on hers either.

GoingAnonForPixieThread · 24/06/2015 11:05

Aargh, so sorry Bonnie - think it's NOW visible Smile

BonnieNoClyde · 24/06/2015 11:09

You are definitely pretty enough!

I think a short, side-swept fringe would really suit you. it wouldn't even have to be too long. I think you could pull it off with aplomb, for sure.

Pictures after the cut!!

GoingAnonForPixieThread · 24/06/2015 11:15

Bonnie, thank you for looking and being so kind.
I think having very small eyes and not terribly good skin makes me wonder, but perhaps I will take the plunge!

noddyholder · 24/06/2015 11:21

I think it would suit you too although I do like your heavy fringe another thing I love but don't suit!

BonnieNoClyde · 24/06/2015 11:22

My nose is a bit bigger than yours. It's not huge, far from it, but it's not a cute little perfect nose. I don't think anybody's every said 'your nose is lovely bonnie'.

But saying that, I did it, and i like it, had it for a while and it made me feel brave. I know this sounds a bit LA, but I felt like a woman who was brave enough to chop all her hair off, not a woman whose identity was partly her hair. It made me feel brave and confident. I needed that at the time!

MitzyLeFrouf · 24/06/2015 11:24

GoingAnon you're gorgeous. I think you'd really suit a Robin Wright style crop.
