How pretty do you have to be to pull off a pixie cut?

Short hair suits me (IMHO) but ATM I have a longish fringe and some body to it.

I'm thinking of going much shorter because the current do takes quite a bit of doing, can't take any moisture in the air without flopping and I think it's a bit dated/aging.

However, I'm an ordinary looking middle aged woman, rarely wear make-up and I have a larger than average nose!

Thanks Smile
Yes Im naturally much darker than that. Except I'm grey now Shock
I cut my hair down to a number two and let the grey come through but it was too patchy.
I'm pure white around the hairline then it goes from grey to dark towards the back .
I went blonde because its easier to blend the white in.
I'm brown at the moment I went from blonde to purple to brown at the weekend. It took two lots of bleach to get the purple out (I looked like a corpse).
I'm always surprised I don't wake with my hair on the pillow.

I have a slightly shorter than pixie cut (hair too coarse and wavy for any longer - it frizzes up to granny cut extraordinaire) and I'm far from classically pretty. I have more what would euphemistically be called "striking" features, including a generously proportioned and interestingly landscaped nose. I also have a strong jaw, high cheekbones and big eyes and wear glasses and the overall look is much more feminine on me and, dare I say, prettier, than longer hair in any style. My hair is dark and with a sprinkling of silver, which really sparkles.

Coco, I am desperate to grow out my grey and have a pink pixie (been dying my hair for 20 years now, I'm 42), but my family (kids and dh) said NO! I may have to ignore. My hair looks totally white when I dye it, but prob like yours is darker at the back. I think may need bleach and pink, or pink and black maybe.

And yes - Jean Seberg is pretty much what I have. Glad for a name for someone to show a picture of, if needs be. The guy who usually does my hair knows just how I like it and why. The guy I got to if he's not there and I can't wait for an appointment likes leaving the long bits on the cheekbones and back of my neck and within 2 weeks, I end up looking like a flipping wombat with duck tails!

And I love the fact that I can wear it flat, but with some rough clay paste, I can really mess it up without channelling Shirley .

Merry I think if my hair was long it might have looked better. The white around my hairline looked good against my skin, Im tempted to bleach it and dye it silver!
Pink and bleach sounds good Grin

This actress from The Following is one of the few people I've seen that really suits the pixie look.

Great pictures on the thread! I think one of the deciders to whether a pixie will suit is how symmetrical your face is. I can see a bit of assymetry in mine so think that's best balanced out by longer hair.

Peut your latest photo is kind of what I'm going to ask my hairdresser for today. The long floppy bit on the side is driving me a bit bonkers, probably because my hair is very thick.

I also hate the red colour I put on it. It's currently dangerously close to that short spiky crop with nothing pixie about it.

The long floppy bit is very annoying - especially when drying it. Although it does have a softening effect, especially if you've got quite a strong jaw-line. If you're up for colouring I would recommend bleaching as it improves the texture and cuts the drying tim.

Another one here with a pixie - I am not pretty either but I feel very much me with a decent short hair cut, which is far better than struggling with lank & limp shoulder length hair.

The great thing I find about pixies is that due to growing hair and slight tweaks to the style each time I have it cut, its never exactly the same so I don't get bored, unlike when I had longer hair as having it tied back looked awful. I have a fab pinterest board which gives me ideas for tweaks!

(P.S When colouring it, I steer clear of red dyes as I don't want to look like Sharon Osbourne!)

Bit scared of bleach, have suffered the candy floss orange fluff in the past. I'm sat in the hairdressers now and will invest in a nice chocolate brown dye I think.

The long floppy bit is like a safety blanket. Time to chop!

Inspired by this thread, this cut and Robin Wright, I've just had a pixie. I'm so pleased, i look so much fresher, younger even and gone and the long lifeless frizzy locks.
I'm not pretty, i have a heart shaped face with what someone else called interesting features!

Lovely cut. And I love Robin Wright. Loafline, we wanna see you. Do us a selfie!

That's a very cool 'do loaf.

I've gone full pixie. Makes my eyes look bigger? Anyway, I don't think you have to be a doe eyed twiggy lookalike to pull it off. I think a pixie cut requires a confident hairdresser, and a confident person.

No selfie - sorry!Grin
My hairdresser is usually pretty conservative when i come in with mad plans for my hair but today she didn't even stop to ask was I sure....she was so convinced it was the right thing for my hair.
I do feel the need for lipstick - not a bad thing! and i agree it brings out your eyes. Also looking at the pics posted i think you all look great with your short crops.....it's only hair, people get too precious....it grows!

I've had short pixie style hair on and off for a few years. I second the no spiky look unless you want to go for the 80's throwback. In addition, I find the fringe has to be cut in to but not very blunt otherwise it makes the overall haircut look square / boxy.

I find I can do an interesting look / change it up by blow drying the front in the opposite direction to which it's cut (altho I have my fringe longer) I also run a hair iron through it post drying as I get frizz and it keeps it sleeker. Product for me is a must - I use something that's between a paste and a gel to set it, after using Moroccan argan oil to dry it with
