New thread!

OP posts:
Rainy26 · 11/06/2015 22:51

want to say thanks to you guys, have been reading various of Skincare threads and CH website, my face is improving slowly with no signs of spots popping out!

Products I use (not all at the same time!):
Body Shop Vit E Cleaner
PC BHA 2% Liquid
FAB pads or Cane and Austin pads
Missha FTE
Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum (thinking about getting the pricey zelens serum!)
Josie maran argan oil
PC Ultra sheer moisturer
Liquid Gold (not a big fan of it)
Quionderm

I read it on somewhere having fluoride free toothpaste helps, and I got no spots around my mouth now.

Thinking of getting retin-a for my dark spots, which one should i get?

thank you everyone!

Can't wait to reintroduce acids too, my skin was looking a lot better when on them..curious about the hylamide serum, it's on my list of things to try in a few months when I've given current stuff a good try

Btw there is half price on all nip+fab products on boots online, I'm on a self imposed no spend but had enough points to buy the dragon blood pads and serum to try, other stuff looked tempting too at half price!

Morning All, Well as promised met CH last night - OMG bit of a girl crush, she is so nice and although she was at the Pixi shop each person could line up to meet her and ask three questions about anything. Not knowing this there was a moment of blind panic but I asked her:

1.Don't like my current LRP anthelios spf 50 its a bit white and ghostly what would you recommend for very pale skin that - Clarins UV Plus 50+ light non greasy and she highly rates it

  1. Retinols, thoughts, what to try, when to add it - Yes definitely, she reccommened Luna by Sunday Riley and Paula's Choice. Luna is great, tiny amount needed, lasts for ages, and you can add creams afterwards results would be seen over night
  1. I had on route to the Pixi store bought the Hylamide from Boots she had on her blog on Monday, so asked if it really was that good - in her words "I don't bullshit" if its good I say so. Told me how to apply and also mentioned that an actual eye cream can be tapped onto. I used it last night and this morning, not sure about less lineage but there is no dryness and I applied ti 2 hours ago!

Also, quite interesting that she said that at my age maybe Cetaphil was not necessarily the way to go - I was very firm, and said that I actually really liked it, light, affordable and skin doesn't react - she said that was fair enough and that if it suits you then thats OK.

And I mentioned that I had Liquid Gold, used as directed and the next morning I was a but "meh" and the results were a bit disappointing - she looked all over my face and then said after about 2 seconds - you don't need it! Now if I was smart I would have asked why, but I was very aware of the mounting queue going round the shop and out the door.

She is so chilled. attentive and didn't rush anyone and was really chatty - mentioned LA and that there are videos coming, just someone that you really want to speak to for about an hour, about skin car and routines - Just awesome!!!!!

I know - I am very on the fence re Luna - may take a wonder into Space NK tomorrow and quiz them if they can dish out a sample that would be good!!!!

Re Hylamide - small amount on ring finger and then gently rub all around eye, inner corner, lid, socket etc and then if wanted can apply eye cream over it. I have genefique EC at the moment but won't buy again - its fine but I am trying to streamline the products in my life at the moment and don't think its worth the money, got a GWP pot ages ago and liked it but after buying the full price version I will only use if its GWP and not bother buying - there are IMO better out there for less cash. Hylmaide as an example - eye bags still feel fab

Also quick question as at a pixie event I felt obliged to buy the pixiglow tonic - anyone used this - good, bad, ugly - reviews please - Its unopened as yet and I really like what I am using but is is a lot cheaper than the Malin and Goetz pads which i am loving but only four left!!!! thanks

wow plumstone you are so lucky you had the opportunity to ask caroline skincare questions in person!

I've just ordered the paula's choice retinol, if you sign up to their newsletter they give you a voucher for £5 off your order too so that helps with the cost. I have been using La Roche Redermic R for awhile now but to be honest its not doing anything so I'm hoping for better results with Paula's Choice as its stronger.

Liquid Gold is ok for me but not something I feel the need to repurchase. It has even out my skintone and made it more glowy. I've been using the Pixi tonic you purchased and quite like it.

diggerdigsdogs · 12/06/2015 15:48

I keep reading this thread and not commenting!

As a result of this thread and reading CH & Beautypedia closely I've done a massive shop and I'm just waiting for it all to arrive. My skin is looking SO sun damaged. I'm 30 next month & living in aus for almost 3 years has slaughtered my skin.

So soon I will be using (and this is a mixture of new and old products):

AM:
Ren cream cleanser (the one in a pump bottle)
Clinique ultra mild toner - not making a big difference but I like it.
Ren radiance serum - won't buy again, I don't think it's great. Next time I plan on getting the Skinceuticals C E Ferrus or whatever it's called.
Chantercaille rosewater yes I know it makes no bloody difference but I like the smell
Murrad Essential C day moisturiser spf 30- not tried it before. After this one I'll switch to the skinceuticals spf 50 one that Sali Hughes & Beautypedia rate.

PM
Emma Hardie Amazing Faces
FAB acid toner
Dr Dennis Gross Hydra-Pure brightening serum
Sunday Riley Juno
Kate Somerville Nourish - I like it, it's light and easy.

I've discovered I really, really don't like putting my fingers into a pot of cream so won't buy anything like that again.

I'm seriously considering purchasing Sunday Riley Artemis and Good Genes. I know they are a con price wise but face & hand bags are the areas I splurge on.

Did anyone else read the CH interview with Paula from Paula's choice? I thought Paula's thoughts on fragrance (that it is always irritating but we don't see it because the irritation isn't immediately visible). CH often suggests products that Paula doesn't at all (because, for example, it has fragrance in it). People asked in the comments what CH views were but she didn't come back to respond. So I thought I'd ask you lot!

MsBojangles · 12/06/2015 17:34

Which PC retinol product did you order, yazzy?

I've just started up with retin a again after a loooong hiatus and my skin is protesting loudly, think I might try and ease in gently with a retinol first.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 12/06/2015 18:19

Plumstone- brilliant....Smile I love how normal CH sounds. I was defending her again on another thread where the old accusations about her being paid to endorse comes up.

Re the Hylamide, is that the eye one? I really like the sound of that...after reading her blog about the consistency of some products and how watery stuff is actually better than we think, I have dug out my Elemis pro collagen eye serum which I'd slung in the drawer thinking it was watery rubbish!

yazzy85 · 12/06/2015 19:36

MsBojangles I ordered the Paula's Choice Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment. La Roche Redermic is doing nothing for me and Caroline likes this one. I'm too scared to try Retin-A knowing that its a prescription item.

www.carolinehirons.com/2015/03/paulas-choice-clinical-1-retinol.html?m=1

MsBojangles · 12/06/2015 20:01

Yay, that's the one I ended up getting, think it's the strongest one she does. Retin-A is brutal, at first anyway...going to try it again after I've used up all the PC retinol, assuming my face doesn't fall off in the meantime!

I signed up and got the £5 discount too, eased the pain a bit Smile

plumstone · 12/06/2015 20:19

Hey sangria, yep, I had seen it on her blog, and picked it on route to the pixie shop, used it last night and this morning. Really liking it, u,dear my eyes tends to get a little dry, and I usually reapply eyecream at lunch, but today, didn't and a little goes a long way so so far so good.

Bought the Clarims, Spf 50+ on the way home from work, and slapped on on this evening to see what it was like, lovely and light with a fab finish, that I think will work really well under my cream blush and concealer.

She comes across as the type of person you want to sit down with a bottle of wine and chat with! I don't think she is paid to endorse one product, she was in the pixie shop, advised me with Clarins, Sunday Riley and Paula's choice, raved about Kate Somerville. She did say the Pixi glow was good as an exfoliating toner, but I didn't specifically ask about that. The impression I got was she is paid to turn up, and will promote a specific product, but to the exclusion of all else!

DrankSangriaInThePark · 12/06/2015 21:08

Thanks plum! Think will treat myself.

sonata1 · 12/06/2015 21:41

Hi Plumstone. Which Clarins Spf 50 are you referring to? I have an unopened Clarins oil that I want to exchange.

plumstone · 12/06/2015 22:21

Hi Sonata, it is this one UV plus extant multi protection spf 50. £32 in John Lewis - downside is it's only a 30ml bottle!

Amazing faces quiche 2- hold onto your purse strings!
sonata1 · 12/06/2015 22:33

Thanks Plumstone. I am using the Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily Defense SPF 50 60ml at the moment. I quite like it as it doesn't make my face look too white and it's not too greasy. However, I am running out so could try the Clarins one in exchange for my oil.

sonata1 · 13/06/2015 09:33

I wonder if the good peeps on here can point me in the right direction regarding a skin care routine.
I am early 60's (look 50's) with olive combination skin (and a flaky nose) which feels tight after washing, uneven skin tone, some pigmentation, open pores and sebaceous filaments on my nose and onto my cheeks, no spots or blackheads, fairly soft skin.

Here is what I have gleaned from this thread but it needs refining with suggestions for alternatives

a.m
Double cleanse (I use Akin or Alpha H balancing cleanser) Have the Body shop camomile cleansing butter but not sure of the texture yet. Prefer creamy lotions.

Acid Tone with maybe Alpha H Microcleanse (12% glycolic acid). Suggestions please for alternatives that won't dry out my skin

Serum perhaps Aldi or Oz naturals Vitamin C

Kiehl's Dark spot corrector (do I need this ?)

Moisturiser
SPF 50

pm
Double cleanse
Wait 30 minutes ?
Alpha H Liquid Gold 5% AHA or Bravura 2% salicylic acid for open pores
Maybe moisturiser or a facial oil

Thanks in advance. If I can do the job with reasonably priced products all the better.

Orangedandelion · 13/06/2015 10:26

Plumstone that's so amazing that you met CH. I also love my cetaphil but I've come to realise that sometimes if I've worn some serums the night before then cetaphil in the am hasn't quite got the ooompf to take it all off properly.
Im trying to think of the 3 questions I would have asked her. CH and Ruth Crilly and these posts have revolutionised my skin and make up, I can not believe the change that happened.

I think I will have to move onto normal retin a eventually anyway so I am tempted to just stick with it. My GP prescribed me the one with antibiotic in it which isn't so good for anti ageing. I doubt very much he will give it to me long term so one day I will have to use the retin a so I might keep trying it for a while as I am two weeks ish into the process. I will give it another week and decide for sure then.

My skin is not too dry, just a few little spots and red marks where I don't normally get them. I was a tiny bit sore but I stopped using acid and that has settled down again. I don't know what the red marks are but I guess eventually the retin will take care of it. My skin was better on the lowest strength with the antibiotic in it but I know my GP will want to move me onto something else eventually.

What do you think would happen if you put retin a on moles? Hmm I have a pink raised one on my face, it's been checked over and it perfectly healthy but I hate it. I have been avoiding putting the retin a on it but I wonder if it would disappear if I did?

MsBojangles · 13/06/2015 16:17

It might well get rid of it, that happened to one of mine (flat, small, colourless) the last time I did a course or retin a. I'd forgotten all about it until your post.

Give it a try, doubt it would do any harm even if it doesn't get rid of it.

Orangedandelion · 13/06/2015 17:46

The Clinique lady today restrained her mild amused frustration with my insistence on getting the toner I'd set my mind on which is the mild clarifying lotion which apparently no one ever buys these days ( so I had to trawl through my phone to find the one I was after as the main 4 toners didn't look like what I had in my mind and I was right) but I didn't want their toner no 3 which she recommended because of the alcohol which is already in my lrp toner.

And of course as they had a lovely free giveaway set, if you bought 2 products, in a gorgeous bag I was compelled to also buy take the day off.
So much for not buying anymore skin are products Hmm
