A proper deep green would be great... I was put off green for years by school uniform, though mine was a sludgy olive which (with the benefit of hindsight and colour analysis) did me no favours at all, but it has taken me decades to make friends with green again!

That Boden pine looks a bit autumny/teal on my PC too, but there again I have found mine to be quite unreliable re colours. Especially reds which are always much more orange than they appear Sad Though I like the look of the long line Breton top. Suppose I could try the navy instead... if anyone buys one in the pine please report back!

Hello Winters

I've not bought anything of interest for a while either. Loving the green talk. I LOVE green on me, always have, but really struggle to find much. I'm not very comfortable with the pinks as my hair tends to go brassy, and I find it clashes (I use ash tones when colouring hair, and black Malva once a week, but the orange always wins in the end!), so I seem to be living in black, white, navy and grey.

I really don't need any new clothes at the moment though, so I'm not even in the market for looking. Maybe in autumn...

carrie74 · 16/07/2015 15:22

Hi All

Quick Q, do you think a Jewel Winter could carry off a v bright orange T? I know it wouldn't blend in with many colours (but good with navy...). Seen a linen T in Gap that's bargainous and I could really do with some nice bright Ts.

NeitherHereOrThere · 16/07/2015 15:25

Unlikely - orange is very warm.

Duckdeamon · 16/07/2015 19:11

I think can get away with really bright orange, it's breaking the rules but I like it occasionally!

JuneFromBethesda · 16/07/2015 19:17

Orange is about as unwintery a colour as you can get, I think! Sorry Carrie Smile

I'm looking for t-shirts too, and having just bought a white one from H&M which is just the right shape and fabric, I've decided to go back and buy some more and dye them. The other colours in H&M were no good, I'd really love a good blue-ish red. I remember seeing other Winters on here discussing Dylon colours - has anyone tried Burlesque Red? Or Tulip Red - is this a bit on the orange side? I might buy a couple and dye one French Lavender too ...

carrie74 · 16/07/2015 19:39

You see I wear a neon orange stripey T which always gets lots of compliments and I think looks really striking. Plus Courtney Cox can carry off orange:

NowhereNow · 16/07/2015 19:50

If it's bargainous and you like it, why not get it? I'm sure there was a bit of a craze for orange and pink together a while ago.

You've reminded me that I had an orange top at university that always got lots of compliments. It was more of a red orange than a yellow orange though.

JuneFromBethesda · 16/07/2015 20:34

I just know that I personally couldn't carry off orange. But if you like it, go for it.

carrie74 · 16/07/2015 20:59

I think I'll try to find it in store....

QueenCardigan · 16/07/2015 21:18

carrie go for it. You can always return it. There must be some oranges that slighly cooler and less yellow iyswim so would probably look fine. Personally I hate Orange so would never wear it Grin.

I've got orange nails at the moment and an orange bag that I've started using again after rejecting after having my colours done, it goes surprisingly well with my winter colours. I also have an orange & cobalt old striped tee that I think looks good on. Go for it Carrie!

Stokey · 16/07/2015 21:46

Oh and I tried on a nice pine green tee in H&M this week. I can't link as am on my phone, but it was a scoop neck for £3.99. I didn't buy it as I was between sizes but the colour was great.

QueenCardigan · 16/07/2015 22:05

I'd like to find more pine green this winter. It's not quite in your face as emerald.

Also, linen takes dyes really well, so if you decide the colour doesn't work for you, you could try that (I love dyeing things!)

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 19/07/2015 10:00

June, I have tried the burlesque red (many times!) and I really like it. It's quite a deep red, a bit like the Kettlewell claret IIRC - quite dark, not purply but not quite brown - it works for me as a sultry winter. The tulip red does look a bit orangey on the packet, but comes out OK IRL. I dyed a pale pink and white striped cotton shirt with it, and it's come out scarlet, but also a pale pistachio green linen shirt (no, I have no idea what I was thinking pre-diagnosis!!) and it turned the most glorious sort of cherry red - not orangey at all.

I haven't tried the French lavender, it looks too pale for me. I have had great results with the deep purple (intense violet??) though. If the lavender doesn't work I'm sure you could overdye it with the purple Grin

I have just bought a really cheap white vest top from Dorothy Perkins and some of the new emerald hand dye to try. I will report back.

Monica101 · 20/07/2015 15:59

I have not managed to find any green yet, but I'm buying more pink to add to my blue and pink collection.

This jumper from Boden's old stock shop on ebay. Seems quite a good bargain, but if anyone see's any nice green stuff please link!

Also the ice colours are very nice, has anyone had any recent finds?

didireallysaythat · 20/07/2015 20:16

Ok I need help. Invited to a christening in a months time and I need to up my game. Where should I be looking for winter dresses ? I'm a natural romantic, size 14-16, 5-5 and not body confident.

AmelieinOz · 20/07/2015 22:04

How about Mulberry, can we wear it? I'm a jewel winter.

The Witchery jacket down.

NeitherHereOrThere · 21/07/2015 07:39

Burgundy is a winter colour but with it being at the dark/deep end of the spectrum, it looks best on sultry winters. For you, you could try using a bit of it to provide contrast.

AmelieinOz · 21/07/2015 13:42

NeitherHereOrThere - I actually forgot about the eBay bidding and it has ended! I guess I didn't really like it. :)

JuneFromBethesda · 21/07/2015 17:46

Oh thank you Sarah, I forgot I'd posted here about dye colours and suddenly remembered as I'm in the midst of dying my white t-shirt Tulip Red! I decided against Burlesque Red as it looked a bit maroon and I wanted something a bit brighter. The Tulip Red looks good in the bucket, I'll know in an hour whether it's right or not ...

I decided against the French Lavender as I already have an iced lilac shirt, so I opted for the Intense Violet instead. That's next up Grin

I'm very interested to hear about your pale green linen shirt turning cherry red when dyed with Tulip Red - I have a pale green linen skirt that has never been quite right and I want to dye it but couldn't work out what to do with it. Hmmm .....

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 21/07/2015 21:46

Let us know June!

The red linen shirt is the most gorgeous colour now - a real red red, if you know what I mean. I don't know if that's the way linen takes the dye, or if the very pale green took away any hint of orangeyness, but anyway it worked a treat and is a great colour. The only thing is the stitching doesn't usually dye because it's mostly polyester - but I expect you know that. Depending on the garment that can work really well anyway.

AmelieinOz · 21/07/2015 21:59

Will this work on jewel winters? Or I need a more "cobalty" blue?

Colour in the website says it's cobalt, but I kinda think it's not cool enough?

NeitherHereOrThere · 22/07/2015 08:16

Hard to tell as the ebay listing looked like a proper cobalty blue but the on actual website it looks less intense. The only thing you can do is to take a gamble and hope its as cobalt in RL.
