Disappointed by Tulip Red Sad Because Dylon also make a Poppy Red - an orangey red - I thought the Tulip would be more blueish than it is. I'll still wear it but it's a bit too bright for me, it's not a true Winter red. Ah well - it was only a cheap t-shirt and I like the gambling process of dyeing, you never quite know what you'll get Smile

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 22/07/2015 20:53

They make a poppy red??? Is that a new colour? I've only ever seen the tulip red! Sorry to hear it didn't work for you June. Which is a bit worrying - have they reformulated the tulip red if they've brought out a new red as well?? The one I had was such a good colour!

JuneFromBethesda · 22/07/2015 21:57

I think perhaps I'm going mad Confused There was definitely a Poppy Red in the shop last week, I spent ages looking at it in comparison to the Tulip Red. But I can find no evidence of it online. Have I made it up??

Anyway, on further reflection I'm going to stick my Tulip Red t-shirt in with some Burlesque Red dye and see what happens Grin

NowhereNow · 22/07/2015 22:03

It does exist, but I've never seen it in a shop:

Thanks, NeitherHerNorThere. :)

Hi,

I'm a jewel winter - most of my lippies are blue-based pinks. However, I would like to get nude-ish ones but I can't seem to find any that does not wash me out. What's a good lipstick shade for a work/corporate environment?

JuneFromBethesda · 22/07/2015 22:40

Thank you Nowhere, I was seriously doubting myself for a minute!

NeitherHereOrThere · 23/07/2015 06:57

Nude lipsticks are probably difficult to wear successfully for winters. I find that my plum/berry (not the deeper vampish shades though) lipsticks work best for work - not as bright as red or pink.

mimiasovitch · 23/07/2015 10:38

I find that Mac plumful is quite toned down. I am a sultry though, so it may look different on you.

SorrelForbes · 25/07/2015 12:50

Inspired by another thread on S&B, I'm tempted to buy a tea length tutu skirt, in grey or cobalt blue. Does this even fit with my Romantic Classic style? Have I completely lost the plot? Grin

mimiasovitch · 25/07/2015 13:26

I don't think you could get more romantic that a tutu skirt. I have a black tulle skirt that i feel amazing in, though it's less full more swishy. You should probably get one. Today. I'd quite like one in grey or red.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 27/07/2015 16:52

Well, I've tried both the green dyes... the dark green, on a white cotton vest top, goes a reasonable dark green that's quite close to the swatch in my Kettlewell wallet thing. Strangely, the white viscose leggings I dyed at the same time area little more olive. I think they'll be OK as leggings as they're not close to my face, otherwise I'm not sure they'd work. But I think they're dark enough to go with other colours in my wardrobe.

The "emerald" on the other hand (on another white cotton vest top) is neither the colour of an emerald nor the bright clear green people generally mean when they say emerald. It's actually a rather nice colour, but it's quite a teal/mallard sort of shade. I'm not sure I can wear that one, it looks a bit autumny.

carrie74 · 28/07/2015 14:46

Sorrel I also found myself looking at tutus after that thread Grin. I really don't think I could carry one off day to day though (although love the idea for a fancy night out. Of which I have very, very few.). I reckon with a tailored shirt, you'd be nailing the Romantic Classic trend.

mimiasovitch · 28/07/2015 20:08

I accidentally bought this yesterday. I went in to look at saucepans Grin.

Net skirt

It's perfect for me as it's not too full like a proper tutu, but is still swishy and feminine. And cheap. I've been eyeing it up for months. I just need something silver and sparkly to go on top.

shadesofwinter · 29/07/2015 21:03

Hi all, haven't been around lately as been trying not to spend much and look what happens when I pop back in for a nosey! Impulse-purchased last night; it may look terrible irl but will report back.

mimi I love your skirt too. Has anyone else succumbed to the tulle/tutu urge?

Going to look properly through the dye posts above as I still have some stuff in my wardrobe that's too good to get rid of but I know I won't wear again as completely the wrong colour. Thanks for the trials june and sarah!

thestylethatdecadesforgot · 29/07/2015 21:57

Hi all! After much googling I think I am a clear winter. I don't think my eyes are clear green jewel-like, which is what the descriptions mostly say but they aren't muddy green or brown so I think I'm right. People do say I'm peaches and cream and have a very 'English' complexion. So hopefully that's right!!

Anyway, I have never ever managed to get a lipstick I like so would love some advice.

Bobby Brown make up counter kept trying to fine me one but they all had orangey undertones which looked awful and I think that confirms I'm a Winter. I'd prefer nude colours or pinky ones rather than bright, especially as I haven't worn lipsticks, only glosses.

Duckdeamon · 30/07/2015 08:37

Have searched everywhere for a charcoal or light grey pencil skirt for under £40, impossible!

Ditto a nice, plain white blouse (not shirt, shirts no good for those of us with big boobs!)

Why don't the shops have these kinds of basics!

SorrelForbes · 30/07/2015 16:35

Lovely net skirts! I have an aversion to elasticated waistbands so was contemplating one from the site linked to on another thread. The price though Shock

ForSaleChesterDraws · 29/08/2015 12:11

Hello! Resurrecting this thread to see what people are looking at now the autumn stock is coming into the shops. Interested in some makeup/ polishes too!

changeizgonnacome · 29/08/2015 15:13

Hi all.

I've been clothes shopping this week for work, and am heavily pissed off that so many basic work tops, blouses etc in the shops at the moment are cream and not white. Urgh.

Jigsaw and Hobbs had grey pencil skirts, I seem to remember Duckdeamon...but for about 90 quid Sad. Hobbs had a lovely thick, charcoal tweed pencil skirt that was a good length for me, too (tall)...but at £98 I just couldn't justify it.

If anyone sees any lovely, smart coats in charcoal, please share! Under £150 would be good Grin.

I've been living in navy and white this summer, but I find navy really hard to accessorise in the winter. What coloured tights/shoes does one wear with a navy work dress, for example? I'm edging towards charcoal, black and jewel colours for AW I think. Not easy to find, though....

SorrelForbes · 29/08/2015 18:30

This week, due to the inclement weather, I've been wearing my Ash ankle boots, skinnies and a blazer. I feel so much better (smarter and more groomed) in cold weather clothes!

summerflowers · 30/08/2015 23:09

Today in house of Fraser I bought this cobalt blue dress
Pied a Terre Crepe Woven Shift Dress
It was £69 reduced to £ 20.50 and is a very easy to wear.
It's not in stock on the web site but quite a few in the shops.
Now I'm looking for a jewel colour top/ jumper in cotton to wear for autumn winter - boat or v neck .
Any suggestions greatly appreciated

summerflowers · 30/08/2015 23:12

Change - I'm a jewel winter and wear navy with emerald green tops and accessories

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 03/09/2015 14:13

Ooh... just seen the new A/W Kettlewell styles. Trying not to develop a Kettlewell-only wardrobe but I do like some of the new styles... and the old ones.

RaisingSteam · 03/09/2015 23:34

I've got quite a few navy things now - seems funny after having a navy-free wardrobe for about 20 years. It's hard to find a contrast particularly if wearing jeans as well. I've got a silver grey scarf and some emerald green things. Navy/red/white makes me feel I'm about to go on a cruise!
