Tiny I would go with it if you feel right in it.
I'm a burnished winter, the softer less 'full on bright' colours suit me best. I tried on the same top in navy with bright white spots and black with ivory spots and the black looked way better. The spots on the navy top were that bright 'bluey' white (beloved of 70's washing powder ads).
I've been toying with trying some off-white or ivory tops. White t-shirts and cotton shirts are good on me but anything synthetic seems too white, if that makes sense :-\

AsBrightAsAJewel · 13/06/2015 13:20

I've just bought this top to wear with some bright red trousers for a summer barbecue ... now watch it rain next weekend!

littlecupcake · 13/06/2015 13:33

That's a lovely top, AsBrightAsAJewel. I really like that!

AsBrightAsAJewel · 13/06/2015 13:55

Thank you. I think (hope) it is flattering - I feel good in it as it is the right mix of revealing and concealing. It hides the bits I don't like - midriff area (from bra band to waist) and my upper arms, but as it is sheer it feels more glamorous and summery.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 06/07/2015 18:15

Hello everyone, can I join please, I've just discovered this thread. I'm a sultry winter and I think I've worked my way through most of the Dylon winter shades! I particularly like the burlesque red and the purple, and have dyed a lot of my pre-diagnosis wardrobe (eBayed most of the rest). But has anyone tired the emerald? I think it must be new, I saw it in a shop the other day but wasn't sure if it was a bit too teal, and not what I'd call emerald at all. Advice welcome!

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 07/07/2015 19:53

Tired? I must have been Blush I mean has anyone tried the emerald?

NowhereNow · 07/07/2015 20:49

No, I've just tried antique grey (not nice at all), burlesque red (liked this but it faded very quickly and is more Summer than Winter now) and black and navy for refreshing tops. Post back if you try it!

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 07/07/2015 21:42

Not sure I've got the courage to try it until I hear a first hand report...! I've used the turquoise too (Bahama blue?) - a lovely strong bright clear turquoise. I'd forgotten that!

FionaGallagher · 07/07/2015 22:41

I have since accepted that I look my best in black and white. And sometimes, gray.

NowhereNow · 12/07/2015 12:50

I bought this skirt yesterday:

m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/kin-by-john-lewis-lattice-oversized-check-skirt-multi/p1901412?un_jtt_v_pdp=yes&un_jtt_v_from_product=un_product_2#tabinfo-spcl-offr

But I'm not sure what to wear with it. Maybe white vest and navy cardigan? Or is that a bit boring? Perhaps something in the brighter blue or green instead? Green looks hard to match, although mallard from the Kettlewell site might work.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 12/07/2015 13:25

White and navy would certainly work, but if you could match it, the green with navy could be stunning. Or the brighter blue - looks like it might be close to Chinese blue or mosaic blue from Kettlewell? Lovely skirt anyway!

NowhereNow · 12/07/2015 14:21

Thanks Sarah! I just checked my wallet and the brighter blue is closer to electric blue/royal blue in the swatches and there is another colour that is quite like ice hyacinth but more saturated. The green is definitely not anything like any of the greens in my wallet.

Monica101 · 12/07/2015 14:30

That's a nice skirt Nowhere, I'm finding it slim pickings at the moment for Winters. I am a jewel winter and am reinvigorated to buy only my colours after seeing my mum have her HOC appointment - she is an Autumn leaf.

NowhereNow · 12/07/2015 14:50

I'm a jewel winter too and I wear mostly the blue and pink shades. I definitely find it harder to recognise the right greens. As well as that skirt I ordered a few things in the Kettlewell sale, but I'm expecting to send most of it back.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 12/07/2015 15:49

Yes, I struggle with greens too - I can't do them by eye at all, whereas I'm OK with pinks and most blues.

On another note, i have just bought a pair of lemon yellow brogues cheap in the sale and am planning to paint them royal purple... am I completely mad? Grin Not sure where I am going to get matching laces though!

NowhereNow · 12/07/2015 16:55

Oh wow! What kind of paint do you use?

Monica101 · 12/07/2015 16:56

Ive got a lot of royal blue and electric blue clothes. I'm just reviewing my booklet and ive got pine green at one star and emerald green at two stars. I have no green in my wardrobe!

I don't think it clicked for me that they were my colour. I see those carmines, raspberry and royal blues when out shopping easily but not the greens and greys.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 12/07/2015 17:30

Nowhere, I use Angelus leather paint - I think you can get it from Amazon, but I've bought it from Fat Buddha in Glasgow. I've painted a couple of pairs of shoes with reasonable success since having my colours done Smile

QueenCardigan · 13/07/2015 13:24

Hi winters, I haven't been on this thread for ages. There's probably been lots of new purchases since I was last on here but I can't quite remember what.

Another one here who struggles with the greens. I've got a pine green and emerald cardi and an emerald top but that's about it. But I aleays have to check against my swatch and considering emerald is a dobble star I sometimes struggle to see it on.

SorrelForbes · 13/07/2015 13:27

I was just thinking this morning that I needed to find the Winter thread! I haven't really bought anything much recently (apart from a royal blue sundress and a silver clutch). I think there might be some truth in the theory that our best colours come into the shops in the Winter!

My DSis has her colour analysis at the end of the month. I think she might be a winter too.

NeitherHereOrThere · 13/07/2015 14:25

Not much news from here either - weather has been pretty rubbish so have not needed (or been tempted) to buy new clothes. On days like today I wear thin jumpers or cardigans over vests and t shirts with jeans. Have only worn shorts for a few days during that heat wave a couple of weeks ago.

I have even started to think about looking at new boots for AW15....

Monica101 · 13/07/2015 14:58

Boden have a few items in pine this year, I may get some and see as it's a top colour for me. I'm not sure if the cardigan is too murky but the stripey stuff might be worth a try.

Pine Green items at Boden

I will endeavour to find some emerald green and burgundy too this season.

Duckdeamon · 13/07/2015 19:42

I have been on an as yet unsuccessful mission for an emerald green jumper for years! Determined to get one this autumn!

Fairyliz · 13/07/2015 19:55

Im a self diagnosed jewel winter and can easily spot the blues/ pinks that look good but struggle with greens. Does that pine reallly suit winters I just can't see it?

NeitherHereOrThere · 13/07/2015 21:16

The Boden pine does look Autumny - too teal/peacock but I would get one to see if its more of a winter green in RL.

A real winter pine is what I used to call Forest Green - the kind that is used for school uniforms. Its one of my best colours and so is emerald - sadly my emerald cardie has seen better days and I know replacing it will be difficult. Anyway, I think Uniqlo has a dark green cardigan in stock...
