For all you winters out there, come and join us. We have sprinters, jewels, sultries and everything in between.

Twitchcoco - I like those too. :(

Penguinsaresmall · 06/05/2015 13:56

Right, I've done the quizzes linked on here and apparently I'm a deep winter and my style is dramatic. I'm 5ft 10, size 12, my (natural, ha ha) hair colour is dark ash brown and my eyes are dark brown. My skin has a yellowy/olive tinge to it but I tan really easily so in the summer I look quite 'warm' skin toned. Does it sound like I've assessed myself correctly? And if I have, can I join please? Grin. Am slightly scared of everything S&B...

Next question is... if I'm a Winter, why is it that I have a greeny-khaki blazer jacket that really suits me (I think)? Isn't that an Autumn colour?

And also, I have a few hundred pairs of tan & brown shoes, boots and handbags. Should I never use them again?

Thank you Smile

Twitchcoco · 06/05/2015 14:03

Your skin tone would have to be neutral or cool toned to be a winter. That's the difference between an autumn and a winter.

Twitchcoco · 06/05/2015 14:05

Oops. Manners! I forgot to say hello and welcome :) the skin tone is important though.

NeitherHereOrThere · 06/05/2015 14:12

Maybe you are a deep Autumn?

NeitherHereOrThere · 06/05/2015 14:15

(the problem with online quizzes is that these do not always work, especially for those whose season are borderline or close to another season - there is nothing like a proper diagnosis at HoC in my opinion as not only do they tell you what season you are, but also they rate each colour in your palette)

NeitherHereOrThere · 06/05/2015 14:17

You can try burgundy or navy for a new biker jacket.

I think you can get away with tan bags and boots - however matching these to your winter coloured outfit may be problematic.

Penguinsaresmall · 06/05/2015 14:18

I'm pretty sure I'm not an Autumn - the colours mentioned (salmon pink, terracotta, etc) don't suit me at all. Black, navy, royal blue, purple, etc, do - I have a lot of those colours in my wardrobe already.

The skin tone thing confuses me though. My skin is quite pale without a tan; I look quite ill without blusher. It definitely has a yellowish tinge but most of the autumn colours would make me look really washed out. The darker ones are ok though - I can wear chocolate brown and khaki.

Is it possible to be a bit of both seasons?

Penguinsaresmall · 06/05/2015 14:21

Sorry took ages to type there and x-posted with your replies!

I will google Deep Autumn now - I had a 'Colour me Beautiful' book when I was a teenager (ie many years ago!) and from that I was sure I was a Winter. Can you change seasons as you get older?

And hello and thank you Smile

NeitherHereOrThere · 06/05/2015 14:29

Hello Smile

No you don't change season but your best colours do change as you get older - I used to be able to wear a lot of the ice and bright jewel colours but now find the darker colours better on me.

Penguinsaresmall · 06/05/2015 14:39

Ah yes that's the same for me - I could live in navy & black to be honest - well, I do actually Grin. When I was younger I wore a lot of bright pinks but now I think they look a bit ageing on me...

Twitchcoco · 06/05/2015 14:39

I'm a sultry winter which means the moody dark colours look better on me. I can also take bitter dark brown and teal but mostly because they're deep and saturated colours.

I look great in damson but have to wear lipstick to make cobalt and fuchsia work.

Twitchcoco · 06/05/2015 14:40

My fuchsia stuff is starting to look a bit too try hard. Maybe it's my age!!

Penguinsaresmall · 06/05/2015 14:45

Twitch what's a 'sultry' winter? Is it different to a deep winter?

The other confusing thing is, some explanations say Winters do have 'yellow' tones in their skin, others say 'pink' Confused

Twitchcoco · 06/05/2015 15:17

A sultry winter suits the deep colours. It's a House of Colour term. I would be a deep winter in other systems.

I got exasperated over my skin tone as I'm quite neutral. I used to tan but it was a dirty sort of tan, quite greyish. Not golden.

I suit neutral foundations better.

The slam dunk test for me is beige. I look awful in beige.

NeitherHereOrThere · 06/05/2015 15:18

Sultry winters are the same as deep winters...I think.

QueenCardigan · 06/05/2015 16:20

teitch I love stone with purple so deginitely try it.

Welcome penguin. S&b can be scary sometimes but you'll get lots of support on this thread so do stay. I've always found online quizzes make me a summer as I've got blonde hair. Im sure that I could wear some summer colours without looking awful but I'm definitely a winter. But I'm a sprinter/clear/bright so I can also get away with the spring Blues. Skin wise I'm fairly neutral. Not really pale and pink and no yellow sallow tones either. For lipsticks I need cool neutral ones. Anything too blue based looks wrong on me and anything too dark looks too dramatic.

Tan bags/shoes aren't in the winter palette at all and I'm not sure whether they'd tone with the cool shades but if you're happy with them then go for it. But I wouldn't go for a brown jacket.

Thank you Q, they look great.

mimiasovitch · 06/05/2015 20:08

I'm quite comfortable with my sultry winter diagnosis, but I've always felt my skin tone is more neutral than cool. As long as gold isn't too yellow I really don't think it looks too bad, though I've always preferred mixed metal. I may have read somewhere that dark winters are generally more neutral than the jewels. Still jealous if your best colours though Grin.

Oops.

AsBrightAsAJewel · 06/05/2015 21:20

I'm comfortable with my winter jewel diagnosis, but I do miss the pastels and candyfloss colours, especially in the summer. I love the actual colours and often find clothes I like the style of in them, but I realise now that I look far better in stronger, brighter colours. I know I have the icy colours, but they are not * rated for me and I just don't feel drawn to them.
