What summer dresses can I wear with leggings?

Things that don't look weird with them!

I just discovered I love dresses but hate my legs, so don't want to wear them without leggings... The only ones I have are winter dresses so look OK with them, but I'm worried about summer dresses looking 'off' with leggings...

help please?

www.celebritystyleguide.com/images/items/Spanxtancapritights.jpg not easy to find pictures of summery ones really

I don't think it is only "fat" people who wear leggings. What a horrible thing to say.

Anyway, is fine for people not to like certain styles. We are all different.

I admit that I wouldn't wear leggings on their own with a shorter top. Because I am overweight. A friend of mine does who is a size 8 and she looks amazing. So I agree that leggings aren't always flattering. But with short dresses I feel good wearing leggings.

that spanxcapritights image is lovely. How could anyone say that looks bad. She looks stylish

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/04/2015 18:25

Thanks, ladies - I've actually worn it already with opaques and loafers. #versatile

Behooven · 25/04/2015 18:32

The one I bought was from M&S limited collection. It was their copy of the Jaeger Boutique 'lips' print. It's skirt is too short to wear with bare legs, it looks great with footless tights and flats. In my opinion.

Its not it's

"Disgusting" to say you think leggings and dresses dont tend to go well together? Theres no need to go overboard!

Those who believe in wearing whatever you want regardless of whether anyone else might think it looks ok; what aspect of the s&b board is it that drew you in? Only asking as my understanding was that its purpose is to discuss opinions on clothes. If you don't care, why would you seek any sort of input from others?

SoupDragon · 25/04/2015 18:59

Yes, because that's all anyone said wasn't it? That they "don't tend to go well together"... Hmm

God it gets worse 'what aspect of the s & b board is it that drew you in?'

Well, for me it's so that people can tell me how unacceptable, stupid and fat I look and how to do better.

There are so many people on here really missing the point. It's not about opinions its about how those opinions are put across and how there's absolutely no need to be unpleasant. I'm not sure what someone gets out of that. I don't think that's particularly tricky to understand to be honest...

Floisme · 25/04/2015 19:34

I wonder how many of the people sneering at leggings and dresses are still wearing skinnies and a breton top? Wink

Love Noddy's links (still don't get why footless tights are ok but not leggings)

I am talking about on me! I don't like thick leggings with dresses but do wear fine tights with no feet Grin like it matters!

I only wear in the evening really. I do wear leggings but in winter with big jumper and boots.

pinkbadger · 25/04/2015 20:31

Leggings/footless tights with dresses always remind me of a lovely stylish mum at school. She always wore black ones with 50's vintage style dresses and ballet flats, maybe with a cropped cardi in cooler weather. I tried it myself and it never looked right on me but on her it was a great look.

giraffesCantPluckTheirEyebrows · 25/04/2015 20:41

I don't want to look glamerous!

vixo · 25/04/2015 20:59

I like wearing dresses, and I have 3 small children, so on non-work days I feel a lot more comfortable with leggings under a dress - never know when I'll have to crawl under a table, retrieve a child from a high slide, sit on the floor etc etc!

I'm grateful for all the links to nice options. I have very limited shopping time (and very limited enthusiasm!).

Floisme · 25/04/2015 22:52

Sorry Noddy that wasn't meant as a pop at you!

Where do you buy your footless tights (as opposed to leggings Grin)? I've only ever seen them in black but I'd like some grey or nude.

noddyholder · 25/04/2015 23:02

To maxx always have nice ones

Floisme · 25/04/2015 23:31

Ah I thought it might be Maxxters! I need to look harder, thank you.

ElizabethHoover · 26/04/2015 00:48

Meh @ fat shaming

whatsonyourplate · 26/04/2015 07:24

What's the best footwear then, for summer dress/ legging combos?

woollytights · 26/04/2015 07:57

SoupDragon and Wilbur, your responses to me were pretty snippy and uncalled for to be honest. I was asking a genuine question because I wanted to understand the overreaction. Perhaps you really do need to take this less seriously.
