What summer dresses can I wear with leggings?

Things that don't look weird with them!

I just discovered I love dresses but hate my legs, so don't want to wear them without leggings... The only ones I have are winter dresses so look OK with them, but I'm worried about summer dresses looking 'off' with leggings...

help please?

Cold today so I am wearing leggings inspired by this thread with biker ankle boots black vest and sloppy type grey jumper!

Floisme · 27/04/2015 08:18

So is no-one just slapping on some fake tan? Very disappointed in you all.

wigglylines · 27/04/2015 09:10

Have never worn fake tan in my life!

wigglylines · 27/04/2015 09:11

Noddy sounds great :)

giraffesCantPluckTheirEyebrows · 27/04/2015 09:12

I have no desire to use fake tan. I don't want to risk lookjng like an orange stripe thing.

giraffesCantPluckTheirEyebrows · 27/04/2015 09:12

2.5 degrees here when I left for work

bigmouthstrikesagain · 27/04/2015 10:09

Fake tan on a freckly person that can't tan naturally is just weird. But my freckly gingerness does mean hairy legs are not an issue as my leg hair is practically translucent, so it's swings and roundabouts.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 27/04/2015 10:13

I wear tights mostly with dresses in autumn winter early spring, will go bare legged with the right dress on the right occasion. But luckily fir me I don't, as a rule, get papped on my way to pick up children from school or bread from Tesco, so I don't panic if I am not looking cat walk ready on a daily basis. Always have clean pants on though!Smile

noddyholder · 27/04/2015 10:24

I am a redhead and fake tan regularly Only really light but I like it I am an expert though at applying it after years and no streaks or orange.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 27/04/2015 10:32

I am sure you look great Noddy. But I think I just cannot get my he's around the whole fake bake process I like my colouring as it is aside from the whole bursting into flame under the sun June-Sept which can be trying. I knew there was a reason I am more of a nocturnal personGrin

bigmouthstrikesagain · 27/04/2015 10:33

He's = head

Harverina · 27/04/2015 10:41

I fake tan - usually for special occasions as can never be bothered with the upkeep!

Judydreamsofhorses · 27/04/2015 11:01

This thread has made me laugh and despair. For the record, I see leggings as an alternative to tights, therefore something to cover my legs under a dress - I would never wear them as an alternative to trousers.

Judydreamsofhorses · 27/04/2015 11:02

Oh, and we had blizzards here yesterday. The days of bare legs seem VERY far away!

Harverina · 27/04/2015 11:04

Those who do tan regularly - what do you use?

Harverina · 27/04/2015 11:04

Judy that's my opinion too. Alternative to tights Smile

Runningupthathill82 · 27/04/2015 11:17

Harverina and others who see dresses as an alternative to tights - presumably you mean only for casual wear?
Or would you go to the office/court/a smart dinner etc in a dress with leggings? You certainly wouldn't get away with it in my workplace.

I'm wondering if my views on leggings are partly down to the fact that I dress smartly for work?

(and of course leggings are never an alternative to trousers, not for adults anyway!)

bigmouthstrikesagain · 27/04/2015 11:46

Umm yep I would not wear leggings for the office, would wear tights with skirt or dress and proper trousers. No difficulty there. But I am not currently in an office job. Dressing appropriately for your role is a given I would have thought. But I don't go for an office outfit on school run, so I feel 'allowed' to wear a nice shift dress with leggings tights or whatever is weather appropriate... It is like being a student again. Cept my hair is a natural colour, and I don't wear as much army surplus Wink

OnlyLovers · 27/04/2015 11:51

I agree with tunic dresses. Nothing too fitted, tailored or smart, and I'd avoid leggings with very light floaty dresses too.

I think dresses with leggings are fine for work, but then I work in an office where the big boss wears exactly this kind of outfit; I appreciate not all workplaces are the same.

polyhymnia · 27/04/2015 11:55

noddy in your outfit today is there a gap between the bottom of the leggings and the top of the ankle boots or do the bottom of the leggings sort of tuck in to the boots ?

giraffesCantPluckTheirEyebrows · 27/04/2015 12:40

My cover photo on fb is me with 2 other mners and we are on the beach...all wearing leggings! Grin

HopefulHamster · 27/04/2015 15:33

Usual rudeness on this thread. Whoever mentioned that because leggings are comfy we shouldn't be asking about dresses to go with them on a style board - seriously? Where should we ask, chat, AIBU? Style can cover 'a' person's style as well as what's stylish. The OP wants dresses that go with leggings. Not to know whether that's acceptable to trendsetters.

If you don't think any dresses go with leggings, keep schtum.

If there are some you like, post them.

Dorothy Perkins and Yumi often have short dresses that work well with dresses. As a few (more positive) posters have said, shorter ones generally work better. I haven't bought any recently as everything I wear has to be breastfeeding friendly at the mo, otherwise I'd try to find some links!

HopefulHamster · 27/04/2015 15:43

*dresses that work well with leggings, doh!

Sally Hanson perfect legs I tells you all! It's not fake tan, it's spray on make up for legs, and once you have the hang of it, it's dead quick and doesn't come off til you scrub it. Changed my life it has.
