Plus size chat thread anyone?

Been trying to get my confidence back, and trying to learn what clothes suit my figure, so would love to chat to others in the same boat.

Got a shopping trip planned for next week, to restock my wardrobe and give me a bit of a boost. Mostly going to be going for places like Primark and New Look (am a size 18/20 so just about stand a chance in there) and maybe Yours.

Can't afford too much unfortunately and so much plus size fashion is more expensive.

So how is everyone else? Get anything new lately? Looking at getting anything? What are your favourite items/looks right now?

Can I join in too? I'm 5' 7 and size 16, aged 50 and have barely any waist. I've put on weight over the last year and have barely any clothes that fit and no money to buy new ones. I work from home, so tend to live in Yoga pants and long vests with long cardigans. When I go out I have a pair of black wide leg linen trousers I like, but barely any nice tops.

I'll have a look at some plus sized Blogs.

tethersend · 13/04/2015 11:43

Let me know what you think of them, poly.

They also have this Chloe knock-off denim skirt which I'm quite tempted by...

non clingy t-shirts in asda, really nice neppy/slubby jersey ones for £4 in lots of colours up to a 24. I've always shopped at asda for clothes. some good basics nd at one point the only real cheap place for when I was a 22/24. now a 12 but still shop there. anyway, on Saturday I brought a couple of dresses and a few of these t-shirts. brought my sister a pink and a yellow one and they look lovely on here. she wore the pink one with harem trousers from next. shes a 24/26 and the 22 trouser from next fit nicely so be aware that they size up big.

think it was this style, nice and loose but with a bit of shape to them and feel like linen mix but aren't.

I have ordered this for her as well, it looks fab with denim shorts, and I'm sure will still look great on a bigger lady, perhaps with knee length fitted denim shorts.

actually might have been this style of t-shirt, slightly longer than the one in the link above direct.asda.com/george/womens/tops/soft-pocket-t-shirt/G005023469,default,pd.html

I too was looking for a skirt on those lines, tethers. Only thing is, I prefer the slightly flared out shape of the Chloe version - but I won't be getting into that any time soon, let alone affording it!

On the flares, do you find the sizing is true?

bellacullen18981 · 14/04/2015 01:08

An going to try the next harems nacho x

ThatIsNachoCheese · 14/04/2015 07:10

I may join you tomotrow when DH gets paid Wink
Can I order online from next without a stupid directory account?

ThatIsNachoCheese · 14/04/2015 07:12

Does anyone have a link to the next harem trousers? I've tried searching on my phone but am not getting very far...

Yes you can order online from Next and pay with card without having an account I think.

Selks · 14/04/2015 08:19

I really like Curvissa for casual clothes, the quality is usually fantastic and not all polyestery.

Smooshface · 14/04/2015 10:47

new look drive me a bit mad as all their clothes tend to fall to bits if they are delicate!

Tu do some fab stuff and the sizing is weird (I have a jumper in size 12 that fitted me at size 16 no problems!)

will check out those blogs Boutonneux

Smooshface · 14/04/2015 10:50

I got size 18 flares from River Island, they are totally gorgeous and fit in all the right places, I get annoyed with stuff that's all saggy in the bum and legs.

PinkSquash · 14/04/2015 11:18

Just jumping on and place marking. Am a size 18 and 5'11 so I'm in a real mess trying to find anything that fits comfortably in length and waist/arse.

Have no idea what to wear this summer as I was a 12-14 this time last year (sob!) Am in need of a smart jacket to wear for job interviews but I cannot find one that fits the brief.

tethersend · 14/04/2015 11:44

Poly, I'd say the simply be flares are true to size, even a little on the large side, but still wouldn't size down.

Pinksquash, what sort of jacket are you looking for? Have you had a look at matalan? This, for example...

polyhymnia · 14/04/2015 15:04

Thanks. Will try.

Btw, don't suppose anyone knows any really long short sleeved Ts do they? ( I'm 5'9").

Plain colours or stripes. And preferably good quality. Something like linen mix jersey ideal.

namechange2015 · 14/04/2015 16:37

I am in the process of losing weight after a diabetes diagnosis and have gone - in the space of 6 weeks - down two dress sizes so am now a 20. I am reluctant to spend too much cash as I hope to down further. I work in client facing role so workwear is my biggest bugbear. I don't have to be suited and booted but do have to be smart.

I really need a jacket (linen or jersey) black, that will cover most of my butt, so if any one has any ideas that would be great.

MurderOfGoths · 14/04/2015 23:44

2fedup I'm beginning to think the local TK Maxx goes and hides all the nice plus size stuff when I walk in, last time I found something there I was a size 10 and overwhelmed with choice. Since gaining weight they just seem to stock horrible stuff.

On a positive note though, I bought the most gorgeous skirt yesterday from Yours.

I managed to get a lovely light grey kimono in matalan last night , should help with my dinner lady arms lol Wink only £14.00 they had a few different colours x

CtrlAltDelicious · 15/04/2015 15:48

Ooh I love your style, Murder I love that kind of elegant look - looks great on curves.
Must also say a massive thanks to the kind person way upthread who suggested I go and get measured for a decent bra. I am officially a 40G and managed to find a gorgeous grey silk and black lace bra in the Debs sale for £12.50! It's AMAZING what a good bra does to your figure - I look about a stone lighter. I mean, my boobs are terrifying me a bit cos they're pushed up and they might actually knock me out... but it's better than them hanging round my belly. Very pleased! Grin
