dry I think we have very similar tastes and if I can wear flares but maybe I'm deluded I think you can as well.

It's not about following fashion trends slavishly but to try and incorporate them into your existing style/wardrobe. I don't do that with every trend because not all of them suit me or my lifestyle but I'll give this one a go.

shopafrolic · 20/02/2015 19:22

I'm happy to try flares but I guess I live closer to London (and in my head I'm 25).
Am wearing Helmut Lang leathers (thanks Lib), J Crew jewelled sweatshirt, LKB show boots, HUGE Swarovski cocktail ring to draw attention to my unpainted nails and my SportMax grey coat with the knitted wool collar. Feeling meh. Too late now.

Sounds great Shop have a good night

Still think I'll give flares a go though

GeorginaWorsley · 20/02/2015 20:45

blair pleased your mum git sorted.
Lovely dress.

QueenCardigan · 21/02/2015 07:56

I just saw this on pin and thought of dry and lib.

Flares update from me. I tried them on last night but decided wearing them dressed up reminded me of how I wore them last time which I'm pretty sure was only 5/6 years ago. I preferred them with my casual boots so I think this time round I'll be wearing them as a daytime look.

shop hope you had fun.
lib hope you enjoyed your nails
georgina how exciting going to ds wedding. Mine are years of marriage yet but I can imagine the panic/excitement in finding the right outfit.
blair lovely dress for your mum. What shoes etc is she wearing?

Drywhiteplease · 21/02/2015 08:31

THats a fab skirt QueenC, tempted

Ujjayi · 21/02/2015 09:24

Shop hope you had a good night despite not feeling great about outfit choice. Hate it when that happens, especially as going out feels like a real treat.

Karbea - the HL leggings are gorgeous but if you aren't convinced then I would return. Unworn & unloved expensive items in the wardrobe is not good for the soul.

Blair - the dress is lovely. Looking forward to seeing all the final details come together so lots of links please!

Lib - nail colour looks fab. I can't wear metallics as they really age my hands. The same was true 10 years ago so clearly I've always had old lady hands Confused

QueenC - a week in an anorak will do that to you. Hope you got suitably glammed up!

Received second pair of Marrakesh yesterday in the sweet indigo wash. Haven't even opened the box so that says it all really regarding my hopes for them!

TS flares are due for delivery today which I feel more hopeful of. My excitement at their imminent arrival is tarnished by the fact that PDM (Perv Delivery Man) is the courier. It's the first time I will have seen him since I told him to leave me alone.

Agree that flared jeans for evening will feel a bit "jeans & sparkly top"...my default going out clothes from 2001 - 2004!

Like the Warehouse skirt. I want one the same but midi length for more of a 70s vibe with high heeled boots.

QueenCardigan · 21/02/2015 09:33

What do you all wear on your face? I'm after new makeup as I've worn the same bobbi brown powder for 10 years. I'm not particularly keen on foundation/bb/tinted moisturisers though as it feels like I'm wearing a mask. Might nip into John Lewis later but no idea where to start looking at brands.

shopafrolic · 21/02/2015 09:44

Morning all. Lovely night with good food and good friends - outfit felt ok.....
QueenC I use BareMinerals make up - have you tried it? If you like just wearing powder you might like it.....

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 21/02/2015 09:45

Meant to add that I only use liquid foundation for nights out.

OP posts:
Karbea · 21/02/2015 10:32

ujj I do like them! I'm just worried they are a bit big, do you think you're better off getting them tight as they'll just! or slightly bigger ( they are loose around the tum, but do sort of fit everywhere else), I've looked at pins of celebs wearing them and I think they look the same. #41andstillcantdressmyself!

Karbea · 21/02/2015 10:34

Please ignore the !s

Ujjayi · 21/02/2015 13:37

QueenC I wear Dior Star Foundation. It has taken me a while to work out what to use as a base underneath as I tend to shy away from the gazillion primers etc that assistants try and upsell to customers. With regular moisturiser under, it was a bit heavy. However, I have just started using facial oils again and love the combination. Just the right amount of coverage i.e. your skin but better & stays put.

Karbea I only have pleather skinnies so not sure how much leather "gives". I cannot abide having to constantly pull my trousers up like a toddler. Amber is the best person to ask I would think.

What do we think to these? as an alternative to Converse/Ash/IM trainers? I'm thinking they could look great with the Topshop Ecru jeans that I'm waiting on and possibly with black & regular skinnies too.

shopafrolic · 21/02/2015 14:38

Karbea leathers need to be tight as they do stretch. I kept a pair that were a little too loose on the waist and I spend the entire time pulling them up. Very frustrating. There will be more around. I'd wait for perfection.

Drywhiteplease · 21/02/2015 14:49

karbea from what I've heard on here leather gives a bit.
QueenC Mac Studio Fix for quick touch ups and weekends, No7 Lift and Luminate foundation for other times (not a heavy foundation, not wrinkle enhancing !)

Have been reading In Style mag (April) Clare Vivier has done accessories for AOS apparently, need to check this out.
Also a great article called " Why men hate culottes"....and 7 other "men repeller" clothes that only women understand!!!! "Afterall, handbags are just bits of leather and metal" Shock

Just so you know:
Culottes
Flat forms
Asymetric hems that dip at the front
Boiler suits
Strapless too stressful apparently
Boyfriend anything
Handbags
Square toed footwear

An excellent article on how to wear flares p82

BrandyAlexander · 21/02/2015 15:03

Hi everyone, have had an unhealthy few days so my interest in fashion has been zilch. I can tell I am feeling better as I have had first flickers of interest. I had the best flared jeans ever last time the 70s were back in fashion (early 2000s?) from a place called Barami in midtown Manhattan. Cheap but well made and so flattering! I am due in Nyc soon so will check there out first!

QueenC, I wear either Mac tinted moisturiser or the Nars one if I am looking for light coverage (usually summer or not a heavily external facing day). I think I prefer the latter and just running down the Mac one. At my full suited and booted look then it's Nars foundation. I tend to also go one make up free day to let my skin breathe. I used to use studio fix but can't remember why I moved on from it.

Karbea · 21/02/2015 16:51

Arr thought so, will return them...

libertychick · 21/02/2015 17:55

I like those Rag and Bone boots a lot Ujjayi.

Good call on the leather leggings Karbea, they need to be perfect. Or may be worth seeing if they can be adjusted?

I'm having a mild post washing hissy fit here, this AOS t-shirt has just shrunk, about 2 inches off the length and seams completely twisted Sad. I washed at 30 as per instructions. Why, why, why???? And I know I should complain but that's time and hassle etc. I don't expect a £19 T-Shirt to last a lifetime but it should get through more than one wash without looking rubbish.

Drywhiteplease · 21/02/2015 18:04

liberty I've had the same thing with this soooooo annoying when it's an item you really like Sad

libertychick · 21/02/2015 18:08

Excellent In Style mag round up Dry!
Glad you had a good night Shop.

I do like that skirt QueenC but I think I need below knee, maybe even midi like Ujjayi.

Boots are doing a 3 for 2 ATM that is cross range - you know when they usually do it it's within a brand. So you can buy your usual products and get the benefit of one free. They only do it occasionally and I like it as it feel I'm really getting one free rather then feeling conned into buying more of something than I need IYSWIM.

On foundation I switch between Estee Lauder double wear (big meeting days / going out), Laura Mercier tinted foundation (work at home days / Saturdays) and a HOC powder / mineral type one which I'll use up once I have used up the LM. I like using primer, I do feel the make up stays on better with it. Sometimes I'll only use primer and then a bit of concealer and bronzer.

libertychick · 21/02/2015 18:09

It really is annoying Dry. Viscose is the usual culprit.

shopafrolic · 21/02/2015 18:31

PLEASE let Emma Watson and Prince Harry be dating - perfect! :)
Boo hiss on the Viscose shrinkage.

LinusDKD · 21/02/2015 19:11

Oh no lib! I would complain, you can't be the only one that's happened to.

queenc that skirt is lovely. I really love that shape but the colour is wrong for me though. Perfect for dry Wink

shop how great would that be! Emma Watson is already used to all the press attention so she should fit right in the royal family.

karbea I think leather/pleather trousers really need to fit properly so I think it's right you return them. The perfect pair will come along.

I don't usually wear foundation but I do sometimes wear a tinted moisturiser. I like the Nars one and the Laura Mercier one and I love Chanel's Vitalumière Aqua, you can hardly feel it on your skin.

I did get a sample of the Nars sheer glow foundation this week and I am amazed at how I look with a fuller coverage foundation. My skintone is completely evened out and I can see myself wearing this for a night out. A bit heavy for day to day wear though.

queenc if you prefer a powder, I like the Les Beiges by Chanel. It just gives you a healthy glow and mattifies things but with very minimal coverage.

MarshaBrady · 21/02/2015 20:02

Evening, listening to Radio 6 music festival whilst dh puts the dc to bed. Rather enjoyable.

Lib how annoying.

Ujj they look good.

Shop yes to that

Linus do you feel better? Did you feel ill?

Novice they sound great.

Dry great list.

Queenc I need something the same.

Do you ever have an item that just seems to attract the fashion ruin gods. The MaxMara blush cashmere jumper got a hole at the drycleaners, got fixed, then I got curry all over it and pretty much have binned it.

Just sometimes a top will say, I am here to be ruined and quickly.

I like the foundation ideas, will have to remember for the next one.

libertychick · 21/02/2015 20:09

I think Emma Watson is too smart for Harry. He seems a nice man but not bright enough for her IMO.
