Evening. I have the craziest phone atm that drops out in 20 minutes, the battery falls like a stone. Looking forward to a new contract very soon.

Had a great day, went to a work thing, great chat then picked up the dc from the gps and took them out to Thai with dh. They loved it.

Love those kind of days!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 18/02/2015 21:15

Evening. Anyone watched/watching comic relief bake off? It's a good one :)

Sounds like the right decision re the job Stokey. In a way it's good when something like that forces you to think about your priorities. Hopefully something better suited will come along soon!

Lib your outfit today sounded great and I think you're brave to even wear nude tights, I'm still wearing 100 denier opaques every day! I think if you can't stop thinking about those shoes you need to try them to decide one way or the other.

Marant top arrived (love outnet delivery speed) and it's a keeper, though it only just fits in an S Blush I wanted it tight though. But it reminds me that my arms aren't as slim as they used to be!

I need some help for my DM. She's flapping about her MotB outfit and therefore causing me to stress by proxy, not like I have enough to stress about! and part of the issue is that she's a 10 on top and 12 on bottom. Does anyone know of any shops that cut for pears? Or, does anyone have any suggestions of sites I might not have looked at for her yet? (Am keeping an eye on the usual suspects - dept stores, Phase 8, Coast, Monsoon, Whistles, LKB, Reiss, etc)
We are meeting to shop for her on the 28th and I don't want to go mad before then!
Thanks

QueenCardigan · 18/02/2015 21:23

blair have you done John Lewis type places where there's planet/précis/country casuals etc. My mum had a really hard time as she's short so didn't get on with traditional mob boutiques so needed to go on the high street. John Lewis/HOF/debenhams all seem to have the concessions you need.

Drywhiteplease · 18/02/2015 22:09

Evening all...the great thing about afternoon drinkie a is that you get home in good time, have a cuppa and in bed by 10....is this the new me?????Grin 4 bars....proud

stokey great to hear you've come to a decision.
karbea you know work/life balance is underrated, if you can achieve this early on you are lucky and clever too. Smile and, my kids are a lot like dogs, need a lot of exercise and a lot of food and give unconditional love back but grunt a lot and say "innit" which I don't think canines do Smile

Feel proud........one of my collegues told me tonight That I was the only person who had not put pressure on her to stay at home with new baby Hmm Because she'd miss out........apparently I'd told her to "do what's right for her and her family". seems obv
I'm a feminist, in a new way, it turns out. Hmm I believe that women, if they can, should do what feels right for their family and sod what anyone else thinks. It baffles me why anyone would tell any woman how to feed, have, bring up, support their child because all couples do it differently. I thought nievely that everyone thought the same. It seems not.
may have had a few, but still coherent Grin

Drywhiteplease · 18/02/2015 22:11

Oh and back to fashion....Blair skirt! jacket combo good for pear shapes. Your mother doesn't have to wear a dress. If she does want a dress I can recommend a fantastic dressmaker near you, who made my DM a lovely outfit for DSis wedding.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 18/02/2015 22:21

Glad you had a good time Dry! That's a nice thing for your colleague to say, but it's a shame that you were the odd one out.

Not sure my DM wants something made, and besides she doesn't live near me, but I was thinking how funny it would be if we're thinking of the same dressmaker (the lady who took up my flares, she's going to adjust my sister's BM dress too now). But she's near my work, not home.

QueenC yes that's the main plan when I next see her I think - she's visiting my other Dsis at the moment and they will too. So she has lots of opportunity, not sure why it has to be such a rush!

I will look into top/skirt combos but they are v v hard to find on the internet, might have to wait til RL shops.

libertychick · 18/02/2015 23:01

Blair I thought the personal shopper in John Lewis was quite good when I saw them before Christmas - might be worth booking a slot for your Mum? You can ring in advance and give them info ie size, height, colours etc and they'll have it ready when you get there. Even if they don't find the right thing it will give her idea.

I'm a pear and I've found good dresses (for work) at Gerard Darel. What is your Mum's HoC season?

libertychick · 18/02/2015 23:06

For blair's mum!!

There is a matching top for this skirt

I saw this in the store the other day and it is really gorgeous. Could be a fab MoB outfit with a silk top and a cropped jacket

QueenCardigan · 19/02/2015 05:50

So I'm sharing the double bed with ds tonight. And he's snoring and keeping me awake. Unlike dh I can't give him a good kick to shut him up.

dry I absolutely agree that everyone has to do what's right for their family. You only have to wander into aibu/chat though to see that some people have such strong scary opinions though.

blair from the minute I told dm we were engaged she started thinking panicking about her outfit.

LinusDKD · 19/02/2015 08:54

Morning!

My Asos MiH skinny Marrakesh arrived today. I have only quickly tried them on as DS has a playdate.

The good news is the size 27 fits, the bad news is they are sooooo long. Seriously, even with my highest heels they still make me look like I don't have feet.

Will try again later when I've got a bit more time.

shopafrolic · 19/02/2015 09:18

Morning all.
Blair My DM bought separates from a specific mother of the bride outfitters near J9 of the M1. There is one in St Albans too. They seemed to have a better range and could adjust things to fit perfectly. DM wore a skirt, camisole and jacket with matching hat and bag - they even supplied tights :)
I have Marrakesh news.......
I am keeping the ASOS ones. They are the skinny Marrakesh in a 29. The ones I ordered from the Outnet were normal Marrakesh and although they fitted in a 28, they made my hips look larger and weren't as slim around the thighs. I'm looking forward to Spring now :)

Morning!

Lib JL personal shopper is a great idea, I'll suggest it to her as that might save a lot of time. I don't think she'd go for either of the Whistles links - the matching top to the skirt is sort of backless, and I don't think she'd like the zip on the other skirt. Thanks though :) she really wants to go traditional I think (big hat, matchy matchy!)

The trouble with my mum is that she equates "I like this" with "I look good in this" which I know a lot of people who aren't obsessed with clothes like me do.

She is a Summer, and looks best in the vibrant blues (cornflower etc). She liked and tried this but the neck was a bit gapey and I thought cotton wasn't ideal for a long day of wear.

Today's outfit is pink equipment shirt, sleeves rolled up, with navy ruched Baukjen skirt. Whenever I wear this shirt it's ruined by thinking "oh dear, I'm going to have to get this dry cleaned again" Grin

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 19/02/2015 09:41

Linus yes they are long... we can't all have shop's legs Envy

shop good idea, I'll google to see if there are any shops like that near to me/her.

Wish I knew whether my Marrakeshs were the skinny or not... sounds like they probably aren't.

GeorginaWorsley · 19/02/2015 09:42

blair I'm mother of bride next week Smile and I bought a shift dress and jacket from Hobbs Invitation collection via John Lewis.
Obviously this may not suit your mother as a pear shape but I second John lewis or House of fraser for lots of brands under one roof.
As an aside I've had to have my dress taken in by local tailor as it is a bit roomy on hips.

libertychick · 19/02/2015 10:59

Blair a really good thing about the personal shopper is also the space. In the JL on Oxford st they have really big rooms with good mirrors, lots of space to hang clothes etc so it's much more relaxed experience than two of you squashed into usual size changing rooms etc.

Georgina how exciting! How does it feel to have your baby getting married? I get all teary just imagining DD's possible future big day Smile reminds self that DD is only 4

shopafrolic · 19/02/2015 13:01

How lovely Georgina :)
Linus they are long aren't they? That's why I am in love with them. Grin
Blair mine say skinny kick flare in the waistband on the inside..... They are as tight as skinny jeans on the thigh, and then kick out from the knee. The normal ones from the Outnet were looser on the thigh. No baggy, but not tight IYSWIM.

OneLittleLady · 19/02/2015 13:17

Given how long you all say the marrakeshs are, they are not on my to buy list! I think they would end up drowning me in fabric, blue pools around my feet! I always found it hard to have bootcuts and flares shortened because of the shape of the material.

Ooh, how lovely georgina! My boy is still my baby, i can't ever imagine him getting married!

Miserable day here today, it's been raining all day. Popped out for an hour to get some bits but got fed up of rain on my face so I came home in a grump! SIL and Dniece are visiting in a little while though which will be nice. Nephews and nieces like coming here because I always have treats Grin

Cranagh · 19/02/2015 13:51

I machine wash cold my Equipment shirts, Blair, they come out fine.

I'm going to check out those jeans now, Shop!

Cranagh · 19/02/2015 13:58

For Blair's DM! Not sure if navy is too dark, I wear it but maybe am getting it wrong.

Maybe a bit office-y?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 19/02/2015 14:35

Thanks Cranagh, I have pinned the first one as I think she'd look lovely in it! The second one, I know she doesn't want a plain dress as she did think it would feel too work-y.

Good to know about the equipment shirts... am I brave enough to try! To be fair this shirt has already had one disaster when I tried to use MIL's iron on it and it squirted brown water everywhere

Georgina how lovely! Would love to see a link to your outfit :)

shop I'll have to see what mine say inside...

Drywhiteplease · 19/02/2015 15:06

Amber the Daniel leopard print flats have arrived and they're perfect! All leather, not too pointy. Very happy. You've done it again. I'm now just going to let you shop for me Smile
Georgina congratulations. Can we see your outfit? How exciting.
Shop how did it go yesterday? Thought of you and apologies for the stupid interruptions.
Lazy day here. Rain. Family Bakeoff, house smells great.

shopafrolic · 19/02/2015 15:07

Cranagh the ASOS skinny Marrakesh (reduced ones) have sold out now :(

GeorginaWorsley · 19/02/2015 15:32

Thank you to all for your kind words!
DD and partner been together a few years and have a child so she already seems married, ifyswim.
I haven't got teary yet but fully expect to as I see her come down aisle with DH Smile.

GeorginaWorsley · 19/02/2015 15:40

Phone doesn't seem to want to link but it's the Hobbs Delphinium dress and jacket on John lewis website.
Is very much reduced now though as few sizes left.
It's more slate blue in real life.
I've got navy courts and navy embellished clutch from Boden
oh and 2 hats/the much hated on MN fascinator type things.
One navy ,one ivory
Can't decide which yetGrin.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 19/02/2015 15:45

Dress and jacket links for Georgina - love them! Outfit sounds perfect, you will look lovely. I hope your DD has a lovely day (and you all), looking forward to hearing about it after :)
