Love that dress! The skirt is a nice shape and the jacket is a great find.

SorrelForbes · 28/03/2015 09:16

The dress is very very flattering on, I was quite surprised. I wish it wasn't polyester but I think it'll be a good work staple for the spring/summer.

shadesofwinter · 28/03/2015 10:14

Hi winters, happy Easter holidays!

Some lovely purchases recently. Sorrel I love the dress and skirt.

I've bought a nice black midi skirt this week from Sainsburys of all places - for a bargain £18! Can't see it on the website, although it's the skirt version of this dress. Also got these shoes, which look good on.

I'm struggling at the moment with the idea of shoes, having lived in boots for the last 6 months! Especially since my style diagnosis (classic ingénue). Has anybody found any nice everyday shoes for spring?

misslemonsfilingcabinet · 28/03/2015 11:18

No help on the shoes or bags, I'm afraid. On a "boring basics" notes, Uniqlo heatech long sleeved vests have a couple of good matches. I bought the bright pink and the burgundy, very close to the colour swatches.

Does any one else struggle with burgundy being a winter colour? It's one of my ** but I don't like it and it makes my hazel eyes look yellow (something I've noticed with lots of the autumn shades and hate).

Those Tu shoes are lovely, by the way Shades.

SorrelForbes · 28/03/2015 11:53

I too am on the hunt for some spring/summer shoes, possibly sandals. Last year I bought a perfect pair of navy blue patent wedges from Boden but this year they don't seem to be doing anything similar. Mine are a bit scruffy now but I loved the fact that the wedge part was navy blue too not brown like so many wedges.

shadesofwinter · 28/03/2015 12:06

I had some quite nice navy suede loafers last year but I feel like I want something a bit more 'delicate' this year without going completely into strappiness. Like the idea of wedges. Might have a browse...

SorrelForbes · 28/03/2015 12:14

These are the Boden ones for last year (but in pink). I'm actually quite tempted to bid for these although the colour isn't so useful. Last year they had silver...

shadesofwinter · 28/03/2015 12:23

They're pretty. And nice to add a splash of colour to a plainer outfit (buy them, buy them!)

SorrelForbes · 28/03/2015 12:28

You enabler Shock Wink

I'm usually a 38 but ordered the navy in a 37 by mistake but kept them as they fitted. These are a 37. It's a sign.

shadesofwinter · 28/03/2015 12:30
Grin

It's clearly meant to be. You and the shoes are destined to be together

NeitherHereOrThere · 28/03/2015 13:49

Lovely heels.

Spring/summer shoes - are you allowed to wear converse style shoes? ballet pumps? loafers?

Birkenstocks might be too natural looking for a classic?

SorrelForbes · 28/03/2015 13:59

Oh I definitely can't do anything comfortable or sensible like Birkenstocks Sad. I do have some Converse dance but anything more casual than that makes me look like a 12 year scruffy boy.

Ballet pumps are ok but they can't have bows or be too pretty. I have some nice navy Boden loafers (they were good for shoes last year!) but again, they're looking a bit tired and one of the points I remember from my style day was to make sure that everything is pristine.

givemeaminute · 28/03/2015 17:16

winterwalks you mentioned that you like White Stuff but struggle to find strong colours? I was in White Stuff today and saw this skirt . It's a lot stronger green than it looks in this photo. I didn't have my swatch book with me, but it looked like a winter colour. This cardigan matched it as well.

shadesofwinter · 28/03/2015 17:18

The ingenue in me needs the detail - so for ballet pumps I'd need a bit of embellishment. I tend not to really like round toed shoes though. I think I just need to actually go to some actual shops and see what's out there!

winterwalks · 28/03/2015 22:51

Give me a min
I really like the skirt
I will pop in and have a look

QueenCardigan · 30/03/2015 16:11

Hi winters. I took a brief Internet break except for a couple of purchases so just catching up with you all.
winterwalks as an ingenue natural I too love fatface and White stuff but it's such a shame that their colours are so muted and sludgy. They would be perfect for a summer.
shades what sort of things does a classic ingenue wear?
sorrel as always I love your clothing choices.

These keds are one of my new purchases. So comfy and more feminine on me than converse. Just need it to warm up a bit as they need to be worn with cropped/rolled up jeans.

QueenCardigan · 30/03/2015 16:12

miss I don't tend to do burgundy as I'm better in the brighter colours. I think a winter burgundy needs to be quite bright and reddish whereas lots of burgundies are more brown toned I think.

pinkbadger · 30/03/2015 18:57

I'm a burnished winter and HOC burgundy is ** for me but sooo hard to find. Yes, it needs to be a deep pinky red burgundy not browny like so many are.

I have had better luck with lipsticks but the only clothing I have in true HOC burgundy is a scarf (with butterflies on which really isn't my style but I had to have it as the colour is perfect).

Deeper purply burgundy is OK but I yearn for 'proper' burgundy Sad

pinkbadger · 30/03/2015 19:03

Spotted these acid yellow ballerinas in Clarks the other day. They are brighter in real life - I had my swatches with me (as always of course!).

I have the black and burgundy and they are so comfortable (I can't usually wear ballerinas). These may be my summer alternative to sandals.

QueenCardigan · 30/03/2015 19:35

pink that's intetesting that you had your swatches with you. I think I linked those shoes ages ago as a potential as they seem to have lots of designs in that colour so it's good to know that they are a good match the swatch. I think that they coukd work well as a neutral. If only clarks did belts as I'd love one in that colour!

QueenCardigan · 30/03/2015 19:37

I adore these ones.

shadesofwinter · 30/03/2015 20:06

Hi QueenC, welcome back! Classic ingenue has the prettiness of the ingenue style, but with more structure. The classic part means maybe going for plainer fabrics and adding detail with accessories. I think the classic just pulls back the ingenue from being what I would feel to be a bit 'twee' iyswim.

Miss I know what you mean about burgundy not feeling quite right for winters. I did get a top from Oasis a couple of months ago though (not on the website any more unfortunately) that is more a pinky purpley burgundy and it looks really good on.

Pink I like those ballet pumps, might have a look next time I'm in town!

shadesofwinter · 30/03/2015 20:11

Ooh this is the Oasis top. It looks more pink in this colour than in RL though. Anyway, it's very pretty!

shadesofwinter · 30/03/2015 20:11

*in this picture, not in this colour

pinkbadger · 31/03/2015 19:12

Love the colour of that Oasis top fortunately it's out of stock in my size because though I love the high necks and sleeveless combo I find these days that former draws attention to my 'starting to go crepey' neck and the latter to 'starting to go crepey' armpit wrinkles!

I was lead to search 'berry' on ASOS and found this berry biker. Bikers don't usually suit me but have been on a search for a burgundy leather or 'leather' jacket for some time...
