returned this as it was just a tad too turquoise-y rather than lagoon blue

QueenCardigan · 02/05/2015 08:57

loved this in the shop but once I got home realised it looks too frumpy so being returned.

Tried on some white shorts in fat face too but white isn't really me.

I might try Mac capricious tomorrow as I struggle with the really bright colours in the summer. Although summer seems to have disappeared and im back to wearing boots and winter coats!

NeitherHereOrThere · 02/05/2015 09:01

That white stuff top is lovely - I see they have a few things in dark navy, purple and dark plum now as well as lots of muted colours.

NeitherHereOrThere · 02/05/2015 09:04

Not bought anything for ages apart from a Paul Boutique cobalt blue animal print scarf from ebay - perfect for these cool spring days.

SorrelForbes · 02/05/2015 09:12

Heading up to town today with DH. Doubtful if I'll get to any shopping this time though. However we are going to Gieves and Hawkes to buy him a new hat. He looks good in his hat. I suspect that he may be a Winter!

Twitchcoco · 02/05/2015 09:51

I bought this from white stuff, they're definitely getter better at winter colours. It used to be all muted.

Any idea what I can wear with this? I'm a cardigan type person :)

It's a deep blue and white or silver grey.

Twitchcoco · 02/05/2015 09:52

It's a jersey weight. Just past my knee. I love it!

NeitherHereOrThere · 02/05/2015 10:10

A plain grey or navy top if you want to steer clear of white and then add a brightly coloured cardigan. Or go for a brightly coloured top and a navy cardigan.

NeitherHereOrThere · 02/05/2015 10:11

Or navy top and navy cardigan then add an extra shot of colour with a scarf or necklace...

Twitchcoco · 02/05/2015 10:19

Thanks neither you're my new style BFF Grin

NeitherHereOrThere · 02/05/2015 10:45

Grin have fun trying on all these combinations - go for the one that you feel great in.

I'm not touting for followers - just opinions on if I'm hitting the mark!

Jewel Winter, natural/classic diagnosis, here is my Pinterest board. Comments & critique welcome:

Thanks

I don't see many aspects of natural style on your board - a lot of the outfits are very fitted and quite tailored.

What did your consultant say about adding elements of informal/relaxed style to your wardrobe? I would imagine looking at stores like J Crew/Gap would be good for a natural/classic look - Jennifer Aniston is supposed to be a great example of the natural look.

BearPear · 02/05/2015 13:34

I agree with that Neither, I feel more drawn to the classic side of the diagnosis, and so haven't investigated much of the natural. I think the natural was more about natural fibres than and actual style - actually now you mention it I haven't given it a lot of thought at all!

The tailored look is more of an aspiration, I can usually be found in skinny jeans with t-shirt & coloured cardigan, occasionally dressed up with heels and a blazer. I think a look I struggle with is smart-casual and even at the grand age of 48 I have never got to grips with that and I guess the "natural" description would fit there perfectly!

AsBrightAsAJewel · 02/05/2015 13:56

Lots of things I like on your board BearPear - but they seem to suit me as a Winter Jewel Gamine as I understand it.

You could add natural elements by wearing denim, relaxed fit tops/cardigans or sweaters, shoes that are sneakers/tennis shoes or informal boots.

I agree that there is a lot of gamine as well as dramatic style on the board.

NeitherHereOrThere · 02/05/2015 14:12

I think it would be helpful for you to go back to your consultant and ask about natural styling - seems a shame for you to spend all that money coming away with little understanding of what you need to do.

Twitchcoco · 02/05/2015 14:24

I'm a natural classic too and if I stick to just the tailored bit I look all buttoned up and prim which I'm trying to get away from.

My natural should come from fibres, I'm meant to wear say a woollen nubbly skirt texture with a cashmere jumper. Nothing shiny ever. I'm probably 80% classic though so I have a hard time with casual myself.

Twitchcoco · 02/05/2015 14:26

I don't think we can do trainers. Ballerina flats maybe but not trainers.

BearPear · 02/05/2015 16:07

Yes Twitchcoco, natural was mentioned in regard to fabrics & textures, glad I hadn't imagined that bit. I find that I suit clothes with more structure & fit, rather than loose, the "classic" element. Big prints, frilly bits and bling overwhelm me and I'm not comfortable with cleavage either. I tend to use cardigans as my colour layered with white t-shirts and jeans. I did move into skirts over winter with a black woollen one being favourite (natural?).

I think I'm getting it - I would love to go mad in Ralph Lauren but that's highly unlikely!

Twitchcoco · 02/05/2015 16:53

I'm the same Bear. I might come back as a cardigan as I'm so familiar with them!! Your pinterest board would be the same as mine if I had one, I really liked it. :)

QueenCardigan · 02/05/2015 16:54

Some lovely pins bear. If you're natural classic then you are a classic and as you say add in natural elements I guess either by fabric choices or by relaxed lines. What sort of outfit do you feel, most comfortable in?

NeitherHereOrThere · 02/05/2015 17:21

That's interesting. Just had a thought - I think the Duchess of Cambridge is a natural classic as well.

BearPear · 02/05/2015 19:17

Thanks for the feedback, it has made me realise I perhaps need to investigate the natural element a little more closely.

As for a comfortable outfit - skinny jeans (dark indigo, deep green or (gasp) white!) with an understated top, not too flowing, and in general a cardigan or coloured scarf. I have a navy blazer I got from Whistles last year which I love and a couple of dresses from White Stuff in strong non-wishy-washy colours. The earlier comment about "no trainers" made me wonder about the primary coloured converse-style pumps I live in during summer which I think liven up an outfit, can I call them a natural element as they are a bit more relaxed?
