Today crocodile patent black loafers, straight blue denim jeans (I know, shoot me for not listening to my style day), navy vest with a blue patterned shirt and a black woollen cape (again a faux pas because of the high neck line). But the big deal for me is that I'm wearing ALL of my jewellery - yes my engagement ring, wedding ring, my grandma's eternity ring and my silver necklace. For me this is a lot of bling. I did take my nail varnish off though.... (Not pratical for work!)

AsBrightAsAJewel · 11/11/2014 23:08

Now - I'm wearing purple pyjamas, but today for work I wore a black stretchy pencil skirt and red ballet flats, white teeshirt and red jacket.

Rescuing us from page 3!

So I have been obsessing about finding a warm and waterproof winter coat.

Currently thinking about the Target dry georgia again but which colour do you think would suit best?

I think I am a jewel winter so guess purple but it just seems a bit too bright and not versatile enough.

I would love green but is this a winter green?

Failing that, what about blue?

What are your thoughts??

fooogle · 13/11/2014 18:56

mrpop, the purples prob the most jewelly but it's got a yello lined hood (in finding the furry cream lining on my didrikson one annoying). The green looks a bit olivey, the blue may be a bit soft but could try it?
I've gone for a grey mary didrikson which is cosy though not v shapely... Save for the annoying cream hood

MrPop · 13/11/2014 20:19

Ooh well spotted fooogle re the hood on the purple one though am not sure if it would annoy me or not. I suspected the green and blue weren't quite right but I am swayed by the cheap price! Am also looking at seasalt jackets which are good colourwise but £££

fooogle · 13/11/2014 20:37

Yeah good price those target ones, I didn't know about them til after is bought the didrikson one (got for £100 from blacks in sale I think).
Seasalt ones seem nice too.
Found a hobbs checked grey wool skirt today in charity today (£3!!), must make self wear those tights!

QueenCardigan · 13/11/2014 20:43

foogle the purple probably is the best but the yellow hood would ruin it for me.

Wearing my emerald cardi again today. It really is my new love Grin

fooogle · 13/11/2014 21:02

Glad your emerald cardi is floating your boat!
I'm feeling like I've got too many clothes to wear them all at the mo! Great but frustrating (too much charity acquisition!)
I know the yellow d not be good by my face despite wearing it for years as a 'spring'... Maybe if you think you'd be wearing a scarf a lot mrpop?

MrPop · 13/11/2014 21:44

I have long hair so I don't think the yellow would really be that noticeable I guess.

I am quite tempted by the emerald cardi too.

fooogle re too many clothes, do you love everything or could you do some culling?

mimiasovitch · 13/11/2014 21:49

Just to say I have a seasalt coat from last year (green unfortunately - would love the grey they have this year), and it's the best money I've spent. It's warm, waterproof and not too short. I intended it for dog walking and occasional shopping trips, and ended up living in it. Mind you, I live in Wales. Waterproof is essential!

NeitherHereOrThere · 14/11/2014 08:29

What about beetroot red for the Target parka?

QueenCardigan · 14/11/2014 09:26

I'm out of my emerald cardi today and wraring a royal purple one instead!

carrie74 · 14/11/2014 09:45

Morning, am currently not very S&b as am sweating in my gym kit after a bit of a run! V excited today as eldest is home after a being at school camp all week. Pick her up in an hour!

Have just popped this on Pinterest: m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/collection-by-john-lewis-hayley-leather-clutch-bag-black/p1539449 for Xmas/birthday as I have loads of coloured clutches but none in black. Good price for leather I thought. Shame not silverware but can't have it all(speaking of silverware, my friend has just bought a great cobalt with silverware bag from next. Havent looked in store/online but it looks pretty good in the flesh.

MrPop · 14/11/2014 12:50

The beetroot red kind of looks pink to me. Red is prob not my best colour and I have a lightweight pink rain jacket already.

Nice bag Carrie I like the bigger version too.

Mimi I am close to Wales. Which seasalt jacket have you got?

mimiasovitch · 14/11/2014 17:44

I've got the Plant hunter coat. I wish I didn't need such a practical coat, but I will have to make up for it in frivolous shoes.

fooogle · 14/11/2014 18:34

Quite liked the plant hunter one mimia. My didrikson is just good for the horrendous downpour this morn on the school run (London...). Could do with some less soggy shoes! Wet leather converse today=chilly feet.
Bit boring in my clothes today, navy and pink striped Breton uniqlo, navy dyed straight jeans...
mrspop, I wouldn't say I loved everything, I tend to spot stuff that's 'too good to miss' and then buy it or but stuff that's 'like' the really expensive clothes id really like to buy (but not quite!). You were doing a capsule thing weren't you

didireallysaythat · 14/11/2014 19:57

I'm still omming and erring about a black didrikson. I've never spent so much on clothes before - even my wedding dress cost less (not allowing for inflation I think).

SorrelForbes · 14/11/2014 20:39

Hello Winters. I'm just back from a trip to Bicester. Due to the awful weather and traffic we spent as long travelling there and back as we did in the shops! Never mind, we still managed to go into nearly every shop. My friend (a fairly newly diagnosed Autumn) made the point that we spent very little time in each shop as we both did quick scans for our colours and if nothing was suitable, left.

I bought this cobalt jumper from LK Bennett (down from £165 to £95 with a further 20% off at the till). I tried on a few blue jumpers today and this one was by far the nicest (and looked the least likely to bobble).

I nearly managed to bag one of these tops but they didn't have my size. Apparently the last one in stock in a 12 is in the Kings Road store but they wouldn't answer the phone when the SA phoned to enquire. I've had this on my pinterest board for ages but just couldn't bring myself to pay £155 for it. It's £105 in the Outlet stores but still full price on line Sad.

I spotted the following in the latest Pure collection magazine. I am tempted by the sequin skirt but alas, it's out of stock

Silver T-shirt I may have linked to this before.

Skirt

Sequin top Too boxy for me though.

Their sparkle cashmere looks nice too. Black

mimiasovitch · 14/11/2014 22:21

I love love love that sequinned skirt. I really don't need any more party clothes, and my style status coming up so I really should wait anyway if I were to buy something. Really hoping now my style includes sequins and sparkle. I don't think there's any way it won't.

carrie74 · 15/11/2014 09:30

Gorgeous sequin skirt, but OOS [wail!]

I've been musing LOADS of websites last night and this morning. I've got a few CHRISTMAS events coming up, as well as my [gulp] 40th. I think I'm in the market for a new party outfit, but don't know if I should go for trousers based (mix and match, could go with things I already have), or go for a showstopper dress (and where to start?!?).

I quite like these: www.esprit.co.uk/jeans-with-imitation-leather-at-the-front-094EJ1B051

Have got last year's navy sequin T that could go with, or black sheer shirt under leopard print satin tuxedo jacket (not quite winter but pretty cool...). I do tend to trousers, as I fear that I look a bit scrawny in dresses: I've got a very boyish figure, no curves, quite thin and 5'6". Combined with short hair, I find I use layers and textures to add curves. I do like a dress: wear them quite a lot for work (Me&Em ruched dresses are a favourite), and have the usual various wedding guest dresses in the wardrobe stretching back over the last 10-15 years. But I find I can look a bit too prim in a going out dress: don't want to look pretty, want to look edgy, but struggle to pull it off in a dress.

So, any ideas?

NeitherHereOrThere · 15/11/2014 09:49

I am a bit similar Carrie - what about shift dresses made from sequins/satin/silk?

NeitherHereOrThere · 15/11/2014 09:50

Try looking at Coast and Phase Eight. Boden have a 30% sale on dresses atm.

MrPop · 15/11/2014 17:29

Fooogle yes I am doing project 333 - 33 items for 3 months. My items are all a bit samey though so I am feeling a bit bored by it actually.

My problem with charity shops was that I couldn't pass up a bargain but then ended up with loads of clothes that did not match or work for my everyday life.

Carrie as someone who can't wear leather / pleather leggings (too sturdy of leg) I think you should go for those as they sound like they would work really well with your figure. Lots of potential for outfits, including dressing them down (as per recent thread on the subject). The Esprit ones look worth a punt - also as a cheaper option to try them out, H&M seem to have a lot of pleather leggings and I have heard they are quite good for the £.

Dress wise - something like this or this worn with bare legs and ankle boots (something like those toga pulla boots would look edgy)

Love these ice blue dresses - here and here

Sorrel always envious of your bicester trips - I haven't been there for years but keen to check out Coach since you (I think??) got your lovely bag there.

In my on going coat obsession, I ordered the Seasalt Janelle but I didn't like the long length.

Next up I am trying Seasalt three seasons coat. Failing that I will go back to target dry I think.

didireallysaythat · 15/11/2014 17:38

Advice please - what colour is indigo and is this really indigo ?

www.mintvelvet.co.uk/indigo-double-layer-cardigan/knitwear/mint-v/fcp-product/4375

I like the moment aspect but I fear it may be a little... Dull ???

carrie74 · 15/11/2014 17:51

Thanks All. Spent the afternoon in two local outlet "malls". Picked up the Radley Grosvenor in black medium for my birthday/Xmas present (was a bargainous £96). Tried on a couple of dresses in Whistles: www.johnlewis.com/whistles-bella-ikat-print-bodycon-dress-multi/p1571424 (interestingly, also at £70, so much for the super bargains! Hmm). www.atterleyroad.com/orchid-print-shift-dress-6.html This was only £30 as there was some make up around the collar.

Felt the first one wore me a bit and looked slightly too work-y (and yet, I'd probably never consider it for work). I liked the second one, but wasn't sure it was celebratory enough really. Amazing price for a silk dress though.

We then carried on to the upmarket outlet place, where I pounced on these beauties: www.lkbennett.com/Shoes/Sandals/Arianna-Metallic-Leather-Sandal/p/BRSSARIANNAMETALLICLEATHERGreyAnthracite. Not exactly cheap at £150, but they're beautiful to wear, relatively comfortable (I'm terrible in heels, but have always found LKB comfortable and walkable in: used to buy them more when in London pre kids).

So I've decided to go with what I have and just wear the shoes of wonder. They go with dresses (I've got an old black satin shift that these edge up a bit), jeans (have planned 3 going out outfits around them and jeans).

Thank you all for your suggestions, I did also pop into Coast and Phase Eight before finding the shoes, but I just find things are too often a bit too dressy for me there.

I might still pop to H&M though as pleather leggings would also work with the shoes, so thanks for the suggestion mrpop! And the dress solutions: I actually saw the pleated blue dress in Whistles, but they didn't have my size.

Coats are sooo tricky. I've got a Merrell Wakefield for torrential rain, an Aigle Cuckmere for the cold, and a white fake fur coat for winter nights out (bought 10 years ago and still going strong!). I did see the first outlet had North Face Artic Parkas (and loads of others, but DD wouldn't let me look) for £215, quite a discount!
