Remember our chats??

Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

Is there a thread I've missed Shock

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

It is really nice! M&S beauty hall have really upped their game, I wouldn't have thought of it as a place to get anything other than M&S stuff but in the last year or two they've got loads of nice skincare brands etc. (Nuxe, Ren ...). I'd read about Shay & Blue as a new English perfume house before, pleasantly surprised to see it there.

SofaCanary · 04/11/2014 11:32

'Perfumed Prozac' sounds fabulous, less calorific than cakes too Grin

shins · 04/11/2014 13:43

Cuir de Russie, the first time I've worn it since I got a full bottle (autumn has been freakishly mild and you need a cool snap for CdR). It's gorgeous, but typically I'm wondering if I should have splashed out on Bois des Iles instead. Confused

canny1234 · 04/11/2014 13:58

Mumtoblair try M&S for perfume. My 15 year old DD wears Roger and Gallet Rose to school. She used to wear The Issey Miyake one and Daisy is also very popular.
Other good brands are Yves Rocher ( I have the Lilas mauve and Lily of the Valley plus the Tendre Jasmin) which is gorgeous and is often on special offer.Convent Des Minimes ( stocked in Boots) also do natural deliciously scented colognes made from Orange Blossom, rose and Vanilla.
Tk Maxx often stock a wide range of perfumes coming up to Christmas too for a vastly reduced price.

wiltingfast · 05/11/2014 13:38

pamplemousse rose ooh canny I don't know! But I'm not a fan, I have one or two samples you could have if you like? Only about 3ml tho... But if you love it you should go for it, or have you tried ebay? I got a 15ml small bottle of Jardin sur le Nil on there and it was more than enough for me.

sotd is Temps d'une Fete :) its lovely and warm and still going well several hours on... it reminds me of chamade but warmer...

The DHL man just told me I smelled lovely this morning - I'd just spritzed Narciso Rodriquez For Her which does bugger all for me but it certainly put a smile on his face.

canny1234 · 05/11/2014 14:47

Too late Wilting.I've bought some ( couldn't resist dutyfree!)

I promised ToysRLuv I would list my full bottles of perfume. If anyone is interested in swopping decants/ samples I'm happy to do so.I'm going to try and stop buying more perfumes, but swop more( resisting the allure of Tk Maxx and duty free shops).

SOTD: Miller Harris L'Air de Rien. It's looooooooovely. Kind of incense-y and musty but in a good way. (apparently some people think it smells of unwashed laundry, or worse, but I can't say I'm getting that)

(also fao shins and other Dublin folks, Clerys have 20% off Miller Harris atm)

leedy · 06/11/2014 13:25

"Homeless person's crotch", is one description I just found. Man, these people have weird noses. Or are smelling some fragrant crotches.

niminypiminy · 06/11/2014 14:41

shins Bois des Iles is the only perfume by Chanel I long for. It's dreamy.

SOTD: Heely Cuir Pleine Fleur. When I first tried this I thought, yuck, but now that the weather's a bit chillier it's making more sense; but I'm also only wearing a tiny amount as it's very strong. Grown up and sophisticated. I'm liking.

wiltingfast · 06/11/2014 17:00

Oh really leedy! I didn't know they did miller harris. Love love love their pamplelune and fleurs des bois, mmmmmm. Really got to save my pennies for christmas tho :( lucky for me I don't walk past it every day! Not sure I've tried their l'air de rien. Will have to make sure I go and check it all out soon!

niminy i've a sample of cuir plein fleur but have found it totally unwearable for me to date. Might try it cautiously again... I do like leather notes but white flowers not so much.

Glad you bought canny! Nothing like a FB of something you really love :). I need to do a list too as would love to do some swapping but finding the time and energy is proving hard...

wilting, as well as the single MH scents they also have sampler sets for about 60 euro before the reduction with three mini bottles of woody scents, or three floral scents, etc. - I got the "fruit" one, and am kind of tempted by the "wood" one.

(what is this thing you call "too much perfume"?)

ToysRLuv · 06/11/2014 18:52

Is l'Air de rien anything like Muscs Koublai Khan? God, that was awful. I wanted to like it, but no.. it's straight up poo. I like a bit of dirtiness, but straight up toilety smells are a bit too much for me.

SOTD: Nina Ricci Deci Dela. Nice fizzy fruity thing. Blast from the past.

leedy · 06/11/2014 20:27

Oh, no, definitely not actual poo smells. Bit musky but nothing that would frighten the horses, IMO.

ToysRLuv · 06/11/2014 23:42

Ok, I believe you :) I think MKK has scarred me for life and made me doubt my nose, as so many people rave about it (Turin & Sanchez included). The emperor's new clothes IMO.

leedy · 07/11/2014 10:40

BTW, your Smell Of Swinton is in the post and I really like the En Passant you sent me - like sticking your head into a wet lilac bush!

SOTD: Miller Harris Fleur du Matin, which is another "wet garden" sort of smell, very herbal green with a bit of citrus. I'd say Eau de Campagne fans would like it.

canny1234 · 07/11/2014 12:05

Sotd is again Pamplemousse Rose.Worn to motivate me ( to the Gym) but I really don't think this is a cold weather scent.I do like the sound of The Miller Harris and Eau de Champagne perfumes and must find some way of testing them.Leedy if you like Lilac Lilas Mauve by Yves Rocher is a beautiful lilac.
Talking about horrible smells I once spilt one of the Etat Libres on my bathroom floor - the one with a blood accord in.I couldn't get rid of the smell for ages.On principal I will never try another Etat Libre again.

ClaudiaNaughton · 07/11/2014 12:28

I'm riveted and impressed by your perfume "wardrobes". Don't you find that once opened they go off even if kept in dark? I hear a very stern voice in my head telling me to finish one bottle before I buy another. DM I think..

shins · 07/11/2014 13:10

SOTD: Piguet's "Bandit". Green, sweaty, rubbery leather, I love it.

Leedy, I am trying to avoid perfume purchases now, so I will pass on the Miller Harris but thanks! Dublin perfume-lovers, they're making a big fuss on Parfumarija about the arrival of Profvmvm or whatever poncy way it's spelled - Luca Turin is so spectacularly horrible about all their perfumes that I must smell them to see if they're that bad! Luca has a thing about Italian perfume though, he seems to hate it all.

Canny spilling Secretions Magnifiques on your bathroom floor sounds terrible, it truly is the perfume of the devil. I foolishly sprayed it on myself once and all I got was blood, which on a woman feels like some kind of terrible personal hygiene fail, eurgh [embarrassed]

MKK was described in the Perfume Guide as something like the armpit of a camel-driver who hadn't seen running water in a week, I think I have to try it out of morbid curiosity..

Claudia no, they generally don't go off for a long time. Even with my handful of vintage minis, the top note might have disappeared a bit but the middle is still there. It's easy to have a perfume wardrobe, when I started loving perfume, I was flat broke and just got lots and lots of samples, I still prefer it to a whole bottle Smile

wiltingfast · 07/11/2014 13:28

SOTD Ma Griffe, I've had this awhile, it was a bargain blind FB buy but I think this is the first time I've put in on and truly liked it. Usually it comes over very musty on me, and v old fashioned, but there are clearer notes today and the floral is stronger, must be a weather thing!

OP posts:
cressetmama · 07/11/2014 14:26

Everyone damns Secretions Magnifiques! All I get from it is quite a bland comforting smell of milk, rather like a smelly baby. This may not be to all our tastes but ELdO make one called Charognes which is a true horror story, like a stale bullring. I opened and shut it again, fast!

leedy · 07/11/2014 21:34

Had an in-shop squirt of Miller Harris La Fumee this evening while picking up another one of the MH sample sets as birthday present for my sister. It's nice but very incensey. Perhaps for those who didn't have a Catholic childhood it might feel a bit less "weird, I smell of Mass"....

wiltingfast · 07/11/2014 22:30

Ha I do like the incensy stuff but do worry what others around me think!

OP posts:
shins · 08/11/2014 00:21

I love incense perfumes for that very reason, they smell homey and nostalgic Smile. Something like Oriza's "Relique d'Amour" and it brings it all back, the gothic arches, the smell of damp coats and hair, the echoey mumbling and being a bit freaked out by the ACTUAL HEAD of a 17th century saint glowering down from the altar.

hastily steps back from Edna O'Brien style reverie

I'm fond of Etat Libre d'Orange's "Rien" as an incense scent, it's fairly hardcore but probably my favourite of the whole line. DH has stolen it though.

ToysRLuv · 08/11/2014 01:09

I love incense! My favourite incense is CdG Jaisalmer. But I do like Zagorsk, Sahara Noir, L'Air du Desert Marocain, Arso, Fille en Aiguilles, Breath of God, Voile D'Ambre and many others.. I'd love to sample "Rien", as well as Cardinal, Messe de Minuit, Blue Encens, Encens Flamboyant and Ambre Fetiche. Anything with incense, really!

Cool, thanks, leedy! I love En Passant too. It's a nice fresh lilac. Your package is in the post now, Canny. Hope it arrives quickly and in good nick. If anyone else fancies decant/sample swaps, do check out my list earlier on, on this thread!

I think Secretions Magnifiques is a tad too scary for me after my run in with MKK. It truly scarred me for life. Before that I thought nothing could really smell that bad.. I questioned my nose, but I just can't get what Turin and Sanchez are raving about. Pooooooo!

I quite like some of the Profumum Roma scents: Arso , Battito D'Ali and Fiori d'Ambra (the last two are on their way to Canny). I like the bottle design, as well. But I think my favourite houses are Guerlain, Malle, CdG and Parfumerie Generale.

SOTD: Was Molinard Violette. Sugary violets, mmm..
