Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

Niminy DM wore Samsara in the 90's so I have real soft spot for it. Smile

Off to hunt for a sandalwood soap online, the decadence.

canny1234 · 24/10/2014 21:03

Hi Shins, yes I'm happy to send you the De Profundis in exchange for a couple of yours. Can you pm me your address?

Everyone's going for extremely sophisticated scents at the moment!

My SOTD is La Fille De Berlin - again.

I have just sent a decant to ToysRLuv after she included a decant tube in her package to me.Its so easy to fill!Is anyone interested in swopping decants?I have bought so many perfumes this last year and now want to stop. But one way to extend your collection is to swop for 5 - 10 mls of someone elses.

niminypiminy · 24/10/2014 22:46

Trying out 4160 Tuesdays A Kiss by the Fireside, which I love the idea of more than the reality. There are scents from this line I prefer I like Evil Max, and Sunshine and Pancakes is a good uncomplicated Saturday morning kind of scent. I like Ulara's Tokyo Cafe too, though, DS2 nailed it when he sniffed my wrist and said, 'mum, you smell of jelly'. I did too the exact smell of raspberry jelly cubes, the ones you cut up and dissolve in hot water (or eat straight from the packet if you're my kids).

ToysRLuv · 25/10/2014 19:59

Got my decant of Jour de Fete and lots of other surprise stuff from Canny today! Really do not know where to start.. Thank you so so much!! Jour de Fete is just as I imagined it - lovely lightly sugared almond, and I've got some Prelude to Love on my other arm.. totally different, but very nice. :) Will sort out your lot tomorrow, canny.

cressetmama · 26/10/2014 12:27

Tokyo Bloom today. Not convinced that it is appropriate for the day the clocks go back as it's full of spring blossoms to start. But I don't want it to be winter yet, and long evening fill my heart with gladness. I think we should have summertime in winter and double summertime in summer. Not being able to go out for long after school is bad for DCs I feel. Anyone think otherwise? Or anyone with me?

OneLittleLady · 26/10/2014 12:32

Hi all. Haven't been on thread for a while. I'm looking for something special but don't know what. I'd like something with vanilla but deep, if that makes sense. something with real warmth but not sickly. i love white flower perfumes so something with that mixed in perhaps. any ideas appreciated!

Deathraystare · 26/10/2014 17:24

SOTD - Elizabeth Arden Blue Grass. A blast from the past! Well it kinds suits because I have just come back from a charity square dance!!!! Yee Haw!!!

ToysRLuv · 26/10/2014 23:56

OLL: Nice to see you here again!

I like quite sweet vanillas, so may be not much use to you..

Lots of people like L'Artisan Vanilia (didn't work for me), and there's Jo Malone Vanilla & Anise - light and not too sweet.. And Musc Ravageur, which is a bit sweet? Un Bois Vanille, likewise? Organza? That has got white flowers in it, as well..

SOTD: Bal D'Afrique courtesy of Canny. I love love love this! It reminds me of Black Cashmere, but this is a teeny bit more rounded and smooth.

ToysRLuv · 26/10/2014 23:58

Oh, forgot about Cinema! That's a light(ish) vanilla too..

prettymel · 27/10/2014 02:58

My favorite scent is citrus and natural greens. I really like the smell of bamboo, green tea and other natural scents coming from the tea. I bought an Elizabeth Arden green tea perfume and I really love it. It is so relaxing and it has no strong smell.

OneLittleLady · 27/10/2014 04:35

Nice to 'see' you again too Toys

Hmm, I'll avoid the jo malone, her perfumes just don't seem to sit right with my body chemistry, everyone of them i've tried has ended up smelling like toilet duck on me Hmm Cinema and Organza I can try easily so will check them out next time I'm in town

canny1234 · 27/10/2014 15:47

I'm on free beach WiFi here!Teenage dd and friend are cross because Netflix doesn't work overseas.Glad you like the Bal d'afrique Toys.I used to love it too!( before this bloomin anosmia).
Sotd is James Heeleys Cocobello - suitably beachy I think.I've brought several samples with me along with La Chasse aux Papillon body oil.

ToysRLuv · 27/10/2014 16:37

Wow, canny, sounds fab! Have a lovely holiday! It's pretty dire here in Scotland right now..

SOTD: Yuzu Fou, again from canny (thanks!). I'm not normally one for citrus, but this is a bit different. Herby. Reminds me a bit of Lime, Basil and Mandarin..

ToysRLuv · 27/10/2014 21:18

OLL: How'd you get on? Forgot to mention Kenzo Amour, but assumed that you'd probably tried it already..

OneLittleLady · 27/10/2014 21:30

The Kenzo wasn't for me. I liked both Organza and cinema but I'm not sure they were quite what I'm looking for. The search continues!

canny1234 · 28/10/2014 14:07

SOTD is Penhaligons Gardenia. Will do,I'm glad I'm not in Scotland today.Loads of lovely very expensive looking deserted perfume shops here.I daren't go in for fear of someone pouncing on me,which is probably a good thing.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 31/10/2014 07:37

There are some beautiful looking L'artisan Parfumeur gift sets on TK Maxx at the mo. I've ordered the 4x7ml set, and am wavering over the larger bottles. I suppose I could ebay/swap if I really didn't get on with them.
Or I could be sensible and order the sample box direct from l'artisan, 10 x2ml for £12. Then kick myself if I love something and its sold out at TK....

shins · 31/10/2014 13:22

Ooh, saw that HalfSpam! If I hadn't already got the sample box I'd be tempted, but tbh, I'm not much in love with anything from this line apart from Seville a l'Aube and Premier Figueur. Great value though for fans. They have a couple of Guerlains too.

SOTD: Guerlain Mitsouko EDP. Good lord, this is much too diva-ish for my staid open-plan office with its monster sillage. It was one of the first perfumes I fell in love with on first sniff. When I smelled it I kept visualising the Paris Metro entrance signs, you know the original green arched ones that say “Metropolitain”? They’re Art Nouveau which makes them a bit too early for Mitsouko but it’s what I see anyway.

wiltingfast · 31/10/2014 13:38

Oooh, those sets looks VERY interesting! There's no satisfaction in 2ml HalfSpam, unless you really hate the perfume of course!

Have fallen in love with Hermes Pamplemousse rose.Given I love the beautiful refreshingly slightly bitter scent but its longevity is not brilliant.Do I buy it for 79 Euros?

canny1234 · 03/11/2014 13:23

Sotd today is Eclat d'arpege and Drole de Rose last night. Both my comfort scents.
Thoroughly enjoyed spraying myself with lots of perfumes in the truly massive duty free.I got so carried away that l lost dd and only found her when I went to the departure gate.Tried lots of perfumes that are unavailable where I live though - even lots of Niche.

leedy · 03/11/2014 13:45

SOTD: Shay & Blue Blood Oranges, from that glamorous perfume outlet M&S. Starts off very orangey, then more wood and leather. Nice and zesty for a cold damp morning without being just citrus, IYKWIM.

SofaCanary · 03/11/2014 16:03

SOTD: Lea by Calypso St Barth. Almond, vanilla, musk - cosy and soft a bit in the sweet side.

I'm craving nothing but these kind of scents at the moment, bit of a nuisance really cause they make me want cake!

canny1234 · 04/11/2014 09:45

Sounds lovely Leedy.Sofa I've haven't heard of that particular brand before. Its definitely not one for me though as I already eat too much cake!
Sotd today is perfumed Prozac - Hermes Pamplemousse Rose.I can smell a fair bit of Vetiver along with Rose in it although only Grapefruit and Rose are listed. This is my Bal d'afrique substitute even though i have to spray several times compared to the Byredo one.
ToysRLuv I will list my full bottles later today.Shins will pm you!

mumtoblaire · 04/11/2014 10:33

Hi

Can anyone recommend a nice perfume for a 14 yr old? I know that it will be worn to school so needs to be suitable.

TIA
