Remember our chats??

Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

Is there a thread I've missed Shock

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

OP posts:
ToysRLuv · 18/10/2014 17:09

SOTD: Givenchy Organza Indecence. Smooth, spicy, warm, beautiful. In my all time top 5 perfumes together with Lipstick Rose, Dzing, Travesee du Bosphore and Theorema.

leedy · 18/10/2014 19:59

No, hasn't arrived yet! I hope there isn't some delightfully scented postman out there...

SOTD: Tom Daxon Vachetta again. May need another sample of this, if not FB, I like it a lot.

ToysRLuv · 20/10/2014 16:27

Canny: Thanks for your package! It came today.. Lovely lovely lovely stuff!!! I doused myself in the Gold Leather. Mmmm... boozy. :)

canny1234 · 20/10/2014 16:48

Brilliant.I love many of Atelier Cologne offerings in summer, especially Grand Neroli and the Oolong Infini and mistral patchouli - they're so refreshing.
SOTD today was E Coudray's Jacinthe et Rose.I have really fallen in love with this - its such an old fashioned beautiful dewy pink rose, hyacinth and orange blossom scent. This will be my new signature.
However my Tk Maxx bottles have arrived intact. So I have Batucada on one hand and Poivre Piquant on the other.I like them both though the Batucada is definitely summery and tropical.

Housewife2010 · 20/10/2014 17:19

My SOTD Serge Lutens Jeux de Peau. I'm not keen on the initial spray, but I love the dry down. I haven't worn it for a while, but after a summer of light Diptyque scents, I'm gradually drifting back to Serge.

shins · 20/10/2014 21:32

Love Jeux de Peau, Housewife, it's like buttered popcorn.

SOTD Chanel no. 19 out of habit. My Surrender to Chance order finally arrived, the grandes dames of Guerlain. I know them all from spraying in shops but I needed to live with them for a bit. Initial impressions:

Apres l’Ondee- so beautiful, so fleeting, it’s gone in an hour or two.
Chamade – ditto though a bit stronger.
L’Heure Bleue – this lady has heft. I can’t decide if the weird aniseed notes are terrible or lovely, it’s one I keep sniffing though.
Jicky – surprisingly filthy, it’s just lavender and civet. Though they’re very different perfumes, the clean/dirty contrast reminds me of Diorella.

shins · 20/10/2014 21:33

Oh and if anyone's interested, I have these samples - all 1-2 mls of various levels of sprayage.

I'm interested in trying Muscs Koublai Khan, someone has it I think?

ToysRLuv · 20/10/2014 21:55

Shins: I have it (it smells like poo to me Grin ). Would love to do a swap, but will wait and see what happened to my letter first..

ToysRLuv · 20/10/2014 21:58

Jeux de Peau is nice. I smell my leather skates in it.. (used to figure skate) Sort of a milky liquoricey burnt leather.

dixiejo · 21/10/2014 08:45

I have lurked on this thread and you ladies have the most incredible knowledge of a fascinating subject. I am very much a novice and, although I'm very interested in finding a signature perfume , I lack the expertise to even describe the sorts of scents that I like.

I am seriously considering doing the Nose diagnostic tool thingummy, but will it all be in French :-( ? Is there an alternative source anyone can recommend? Thanks

FuzzLightbeard · 21/10/2014 13:19

Ah here you all are! I've been trying to break my perfume habit, I now have more than enough to last me for the rest of my days Grin

Dixiejo I seem to remember there was an option to view Nose in English- is there a little Union jack at the top of the screen? I quite enjoyed the samples I had from them- my second pack was half price and my third was free so excellent value.

SOTD is Heeley's Ophelia, a bit green and springlike for this time of year but lovely all the same.

leedy · 21/10/2014 13:19

SOTD: Pre-work department store squirt (has to be some advantage to having a morning doctor's appt.) of Tom Ford Plum Japonais, which is lovely so far: the plum isn't super sweet, lots of wood and spiciness. Keep sniffing my wrist.

SofaCanary · 21/10/2014 14:24

SOTD: Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia. Think my quest for all thing almondy could be over...this is delicious! There's a blast of something a bit fresh and herby in there that stops it being sickly, have a feeling it might work best under a hot, burnished sun but I'm enjoying it immensely on this grey, wet 'n' windy day regardless.

shins · 21/10/2014 14:26

SOTD: Guerlain L’Heure Bleue. It’s deeply old fashioned and makes me feel like I’m mourning my Fiancé who Fell in Flanders Fields. I imagine the original version had a lot more oakmoss and all those banned things to counter the floral powdery sweetness, but it’s still got an aniseedy medicinal quality that makes it very strange. Jury completely out on this perfume, I can’t decide whether I like it or not but it’s certainly very interesting.

niminypiminy · 21/10/2014 14:31

SofaCanary I like the sound of Mandorlo di Sicilia -- I have a bit of a thing for almonds myself.

SOTD: Apres l'Ondee. Whenever I wear it I wonder that I ever wear anything else, it's so beautiful.

canny1234 · 21/10/2014 14:50

SOTD is Serge Lutens De Profundis. Its a gorgeously violet coloured violet n earth scented chrysanthemum and incense perfume. It smells like a catholic church when the ladies have just redone the flowers and there is the faintest smell of incense in the air redolent of a earlier mass.

Shins I would be interested in a couple of your samples but I can't return the favour due to postal regs sadly.

Dixiejo welcome to this thread!

shins · 21/10/2014 15:09

Canny I have a UK mail forwarding address (parcelmotel) so I can swap! Smile

SofaCanary · 21/10/2014 18:07

Half my garden wall just blew down...I'm just sniffing my wrists and smiling, kind of Grin

FuzzLightbeard · 22/10/2014 14:23

Sofacanary sorry about your wall, our fences blew down last year and it was a right pain. We had an open plan garden for a while...

The earlier talk of Drole de Rose inspired me to get my bottle out so that is SOTD. Reminds me of Johnson's and Nivea products a bit, but that's what I like about it!

canny1234 · 22/10/2014 14:24

Oh dear SofaCanary!Perfume is a good distraction.
Shins are you interested in any of mine?( listed a while back)
Plus: De Profundis 5 ml decant
Houbignant Quelque Fleurs sample
Bal d' Afrique sample.
ToysRLuv I will do your decant of the Jour de Fete today.Tea for two smelt like Lijiang in China - pungeant smell of the small smoky braziers they use for warmth in winter and for making tea.

ToysRLuv · 22/10/2014 21:19

Thanks, canny! Tea for Two is nice, but it is very "tea-ey".. Put some of your Lime, Basil and Mandarin on today.. Had forgotten what it was like. Fresh. Quite foody.

leedy · 23/10/2014 10:43

Damn, I have just remembered that I too have a Parcel Motel address and should have used that one. :(

SOTD: sample of Tom Daxon Cologne Absolute. Kind of what it says on the tin: traditional cologne notes in an EDP (it's like 4711 turned up to 11...). I rather like it.

shins · 23/10/2014 11:11

Canny, I would love the De Profundis decant if you want to swap it for more than one of my smaller ones? It sounds right up my street, I have a soft spot for incensy perfume (all those childhood Sundays at mass...!)

SOTD: Guerlain Chamade EDT. Totally gone by 11 am, though it was a nice springy scent, not really right for this time of the year.

FuzzLightbeard · 23/10/2014 13:36

Going a bit hardcore today and wearing Naomi Goodsir's Bois d'Ascese. It's taken me a while to come round to this one- it's VERY smoky, like sitting next to a campfire. But it does work really well in this wet, chilly weather and makes me feel all cozy, almost like having my own little virtual log fire!

niminypiminy · 23/10/2014 22:37

I find Chamade lasts and lasts on me -- though I have the EdP, which is richer and less spring-y. I love the way it starts out harshly green and then mellows into yellow - mimosa and narcissus.

Today I've been wearing Guerlain Samsara, which I like a lot but hardly ever wear. I have to be in the mood for that mixture of sandalwood and jasmine (a note that I find really difficult - L'Heure Bleue is a Guerlain I cannot wear). Sandalwood, though I find both nostalgic (it reminds me of getting Bee brand sandalwood soap in my Christmas stocking) and fortifying. On a day when I woke up tired that's what I needed.
