Hey everyone....waves

What are you wearing? Did you get any bargains over Christmas? Are you feeling penitent post-Christmas and does this extend to the perfume budget?

I got a voucher for Parfumarija as a Christmas present (the massive clunky hints I dropped all year paid off) and got a bottle of Malle's Lys Mediterranee. It's a lily soliflore but there's something really compelling about it - it actually smells hot. Like hot rocks and sand, as well as floral. It's too much like all his beautiful perfumes. Using it very sparingly.

SOTD: Mon Parfum by Paloma Picasso. Gorgeously tarty and 80s but longevity is poor, reformulation I guess.

Happy New Year!

No scent for Christmas and no penitence to confess; just a whinge that I have a cold with a temperature and can smell nothing.

canny1234 · 07/01/2015 17:07

Ooh - a 2015 new sparkly thread!

Happy new year to all Grin.

I didn't receive any perfume gifts either, though I did give some.
I've been busy buying perfume in the sales.Bought Violetta on Christmas eve.It took days to be sent out even though I was charged immediately.2 weeks later still isn't here.Following on- I phoned Penhaligons where they said they will chase it up in the delivery depot and email me - heard nothing. So phoned this morning and cancelled it!I've decided I will never buy any of their products again as they really do not know how to run a business.
I have ordered a pack of 9 mini perfumes from a Shropshire perfume company though called Pell Wall which should be interesting.Plus citrus and flower sets from Miller Harris in the sale.

Happy New Year!

Perfume gifts: my mum got me Jo Malone Sage and Sea Salt, which is really rather nice. Sale purchases: Miller Harris Terre D'Iris, which I looooooove, probably my favourite iris yet. Current status: January financial penury - NO MORE SHOPPING NOT EVEN SAMPLES I HAVE ENOUGH PERFUME TO BE GOING ON WITH. SOTD: L'Artisan Jour de Fete, which manages to be vanilla and almond without being sweet. Really lovely, and I normally hate food-y scents.

OneLittleLady · 15/01/2015 12:40

the fancy nights i bought?really really nice.very heavy and rich which is a big surprise from a cleb scent.

Carpaccio · 15/01/2015 13:36

I have been doing a bit of perfume shopping at Harrods (online) - I got the Eau de Iceberg (£12 down from £30 - it's a 100 ml EdT so it's a lot of perfume), Givenchy Dahlia Noir EDT and body lotion gift set (£25 down from £50) and Clinique Wrapping EDT and body lotion gift set (£34 or so down from around £50.

I didn't know the Iceberg perfume or the Clinique one. I tried Dahlia Noir a while back and really liked it then

The best perfume IMO is the Iceberg one - it really is very nice. Most certainly worth the money.

I'm not so keen on Dahlia Noir as it doesn't smell like the sample I had, but I'll give it a chance, and the Clinique Wrappings smells of German motorway toilets and old ladies according to my DH.

I've gone quiet because of my spending ban! I'm planning on using up samples, especially the ones I'm not keen on - it's always worth giving something a second or third chance. Some of my favourite perfumes are ones I hated initially.

I spent too much money on perfume in the last months of 2014. However, I'm happy to swap and might put an updated list on soon.

SOTD: Carnal Flower - Malle. It's a big perfume because I feel like taking up some space today and I feel happy. The end of this depressing month is in sight I think!

Toomuchtea, I love those Oriza perfumes, you're right, they're quite wintery and churchy.

canny1234 · 23/01/2015 13:59

Montale Roses Musk sample on today.A Fragantican sent me a beautiful box full of perfume and niche samples in a swop.I'm having a lovely time testing!

I've never tried any Montale's before because I hate the packaging but I love this perfume ( and I usually totally dislike musk).I just can't stop sniffing my wrist.

I know what you mean about a spending ban Shins.I need to instigate one.So far I've bought 4 Miller Harris sets in Citrus,Fleur, woods and fruit and 5 bottles of Crabtree and Evelyn perfume in their closing down sale ( in my local shop).I've also just bought several perfume reed diffusers from Tk Maxx today.I think I'm trying to introduce spring into my house to compensate for the cold weather.

I was tempted by them for such a long time so swooped when they were very reduced in the last few days of the sale.
Tauer's Carillon pour un Ange - Wow,such a bitter green perfume with great lasting power and silage.I could smell it on my sleeve in the supermarket after a very small spray.I'm really starting to enjoy it ( even if dd2 says it smells like the toilets at Peter Beale's Rose Garden centre.).Oriza's Chypree Mousse was too much for me however.

waves

I am wearing Like This by Etat Libre d'Orange, all ginger, whiskey and immortelle. It's a cosy perfume.

On Sunday I brought my mum to a posh hotel for afternoon tea (her birthday) and wore Mitsouko, to go with the china cups, the chandeliers, the piano and the general air of vintage poshness.

A belated Happy New Year all perfumistas - glad to see this thread back on Active Convos as it's reminded me to post about the weekend.

On Saturday I had a fab time on a Perfume Making Day at 4160Tuesdays.

In the morning we got to learn about orientals and had free range of Sarah's enormous perfume collection. Great fun - getting to smell everything without sales assistants lurking in the background, and also to smell notes (vetiver, oakmoss, e Iso super...) on their own.
After a fry up at the cafe, we came back and formulated and mixed our own perfumes in the afternoon, which we got to take home.

Highly recommended - there are other days for other fragrance types/accords later in the year.

SOTD: My own blend! As yet unnamed...Eau de Spam does not work well.

OneLittleLady · 27/01/2015 17:37

Half I'm doing that perfume day later in the year, Dp is buying me the voucher for the day as a gift, glad to hear it's a good day

Gone back to my perfume I wore at 20 years old which is Ghost Deep Night. Reminds me of being young, child and mortgage free! I do still like it surprisingly, lot's of deep vanilla, a little peach in there and something softly musky. Not very classy compared to what other people are wearing but it's a nice little nostalgia trip

TweenageAngst · 27/01/2015 18:00

Tried out Anubis from Papillion which I love. DS 1 described me as smelling like the poor bits of Thailand.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 27/01/2015 21:09

One, I got the day as my Christmas prezzie off DP - I think it was supposed to get my slight perfume collecting/hoarding tendency out of my system. Judging by the ebay bids on all the interesting new fragrances I discovered I do not think it worked...

thecatfromjapan · 27/01/2015 22:16

I'm very glad you're posting: this thread is my pick-me-up when I'm feeling a little cloudy-with-occasional-showers.
My scent of the day has been Bel Respiro: a well-mannered, green scent. I think it summed up how I was feeling about myself today: I have spiky branches and sappy leaves, rather than flowers, but I'm tamed into a useful and decorous hedge at the moment.
Having said that, it's very beautiful: bright, luminous, planty.

I really want to try Chypre Mousse. Smile
