Remember our chats??

Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

Is there a thread I've missed Shock

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

OP posts:
Stokey · 09/12/2014 16:28

One send me your address and I'll send you a sample of Kiss by the Fireside. The day making perfume sounds really nice.

My favourite one of their's is the Sexiest Scent on the Planet, but I don't think any of them have much depth.

Am loving my Portrait of a Lady sample, great for Christmas nights out, but at around $12 for 2ml, a full bottle is out of the question.

OneLittleLady · 09/12/2014 16:48

thanks stokey I will pm you Thanks

wiltingfast · 10/12/2014 14:02

AIBU??????

Came home from a night away.

House smells BEAUTIFUL.... hmmmm, took me a few hours to ask WHY the house was smelling like gorgeous VANILLA perfume......

Turns out my DH managed to BREAK my decant of mona di orio vanille all over the bathroom SOB.

Then he tried to blame me for, ah, oh yes, leaving it in the CUPBOARD.

Think I might have to LTB Angry honestly, I can hardly speak to him I'm so cross....

niminypiminy · 11/12/2014 09:47

Absolutely LTB. What was he thinking of Shock?

SOYesterday (too busy, no time to post) was Frederick Malle Fleur de Cassie. What a grown up scent! Spare and elegant, in a sort of Comme des Garçons/Jil Sander sort of way. But still with the absolute true essence of mimosa. I love this! Hankering after a FB.

Today I'm back with Guerlain Vetiver. So wearable, such a beautiful journey from refreshing to richly warm.

shins · 12/12/2014 10:04

Wilting, that is outrageous! My dh nicks my perfume all the time, which I don't mind, but spillage! Angry

Niminy, I think you're my perfume twin, I just bought a FB of Fleur de Cassie for my "Christmas perfume". It's beautiful, there's something waxy and milky about it I love.

SOTD: Portrait of a Harlot, I mean Lady by Frederic Malle. Everybody can just get the hell out of my way, oh yes..(just realised am taking children to the Christmas panto this evening, hope it's worn off a bit by then, phew)

shins I am very Envy! I think I might go for a decant from Gerald on Crystal Flacon - he's recommended by FrugalFashionista IIRC.

SOTD is Caron Nuit de Noel, in honour of the mincemeat DS2 and I are making later today.

canny1234 · 12/12/2014 14:24

Sotd is E Coudray's Jacinthe et Rose.I love this hyacinth and Rose slightly retro perfume.
I seem to be stuck on a Rose loop at the moment of Rose Perfection,Lipstick Rose,La fille de Berlin and the Jacinthe et rose. Its a little boring to keep posting the same perfumes all the time .
You've all made me want to try Fleur de Cassie though.Ive just discovered that I can order a 10 ml size off the www.frederic malle website of the various perfumes for a very reasonable cost.Which Malle would you all recommend?I love Lipstick Rose and have samples of l'eau d'hiver and Carnal flower.Which other ones are worth trying?
Wilting I would be furious if my dh did thatShock

shins · 12/12/2014 14:31

Canny thanks for letting me know that, the Malle website used to only do 3 travel sizes of 10ml which didn't make a lot of sense, the 10mls is brilliant! If you're a rose fan, Portrait of a Lady is a STONKER of a rose perfume, it's dark and patchouli-ish and I have a love-hate thing with it because it's so overpowering bordering on vulgar but that's part of its appeal. Une Rose I'm less fond of but again, if you like roses, it's more of a fresh green one. I also love Lys Mediterannee (beautiful, beautiful green lily) and you might like Iris Poudre if you like Lipstick Rose, there's the same powdery floral sweetness about them.

leedy · 12/12/2014 14:32

SOTD: Miller Harris L'Air du Rien. Love love love.

Intrigued by the Malle samples, though am now a bit frightened of Portrait of a Lady. :)

shins · 12/12/2014 14:47

L'artisan offering 30% off all perfumes today to the 14th Dec!

Leedy as you're two buildings away, you should be able to smell Portrait of a Lady, they've evacuated my office and people are staggering down the fire escape clutching damp cloths to their face Xmas Grin

leedy · 12/12/2014 14:59

I had wondered about all the people in gas masks...

shins · 12/12/2014 23:26

Update: after the panto my sister complained that I was wearing "one of my overpowering perfumes" and she could smell it all evening. She was sitting two rows ahead of me and I'd sprayed it on 14 hours previously! Ok, Portrait of a Lady is going to the back of the cupboard for a while.

FrugalFashionista · 13/12/2014 11:59

Hi all, back from a trip.
'Screamers' like POTL or Coco are best worn from dab vials (a tiny dab on a pulse point), or trying to get half a spray or misting yourself by spraying in the air and letting a part of it land on you. A dab on a handkerchief sometimes works too. I try to be mindful of other people and wear strong stuff in minute quantities and hate it if the perfume is so strong that I can taste it. Chances are that if your perfume gets compliments, someone else will hate it but keep shtum. I've never really understood the concept of an 'evening' perfume, when I go out I tend wear something quiet and neutral like a light iris or a citrus or a cologne.

SOTD Vega, the default day choice.

FrugalFashionista · 14/12/2014 09:25

Wearing one of my favorites, Antaeus by Chanel. This stuff has some of my favorite notes - clary sage, castoreum, leather - and it is so good I'm wondering why I don't wear it all the time.

wiltingfast · 14/12/2014 17:22

Ah I'm over the loss now more or less :( just too me agggeeeees to get my hands on it to begin with...

Tried 2 gorgeous Diptyques yesterday, 34 saint germain and tam dao, both were fab. 34 was v rich, bright scent, really liked it though some white floral did emerge in the dry down, the spiciness kept it good.

Tam dao, I actually could smell at all initially, it just disappeared into my skin, eventually a soft greenish woody scent emerged which I really liked. It did ultimately go a tad sweet but hey, I could live with it if someone was to give it to me ;)

shins · 15/12/2014 15:11

SOTD: Mitsouko eau de parfum. Too much. In fact, I'm wondering if I actually like Mitsouko at all, there's a cloying powderiness in it that I can't shake. But then I'll get a waft of it and it'll be beautiful. It confuses me. I think the EDP is very strong and I need to apply it sparingly. (my poor colleagues, between this and Portrait of a Lady on Friday! Blush )

OlfactoryFresh · 16/12/2014 09:51

Good morning fragrant ladies.

I have a sample of Heeley's Vetiver if anyone would like it, it's not for me at all. Only had one squirt out of it!

I also still have Eau D'Hadrien, Jo Malone Wild Fig & Cassis and Jo Malone French Lime Blossom if anyone would like some.

Just got a sample of TM Cologne, which is LOVELY.

shins · 18/12/2014 14:14

SOTD: Fleur de Cassie by Malle. I love it so much, it lingers through the day but in a really delicate subtle way. No screamer perfumes for me this week, I've had a vomiting bug Sad - haven't eaten for two days but will definitely squeeze into that party dress at the weekend...silver linings etc.

shins · 19/12/2014 13:47

SOTD: Seville a l'Aube by L'Artisan. I got a bottle in the sale. It's lovely - usually I find orange blossom a bit boring but this has incense and something weirdly oily and resinous in it, as well as lavender. It's long-lasting too, and cheers me up this cold chilly day.

FrugalFashionista · 19/12/2014 14:07

Understated in 1932 today. This is quiet and lovely.

canny1234 · 22/12/2014 11:54

I've just bought a small bottle of Urura's Tokyo Cafe from 4160 Tuesdays to complete my Rose/Violet themed Autumn and Winter. They're reduced and include 4 mls of some other perfume of your pick.I've chosen Ealing Green because it also contains Rose,Violet and Grassy notes.
This thread has gone so quiet recently. Is everyone out Christmas Shopping and Socialising?Anyone seen any good sales deals yet?

FrugalFashionista · 22/12/2014 12:11

Sounds lovely Canny!
These are busy days. The air in our house is scented with saffron and cardamom today, DD1 and I baking for Christmas.

Wearing a 'fume that won't interfere with anything, 1932.

goodasitgets · 22/12/2014 16:38

I'm stopping lurking and going to post Smile
SOTD is Thierry mugler - womanity
Reminds me of an exceptionally hot female friend BlushWink
I wasn't sure but it's really growing on me
I like citrus scents usually, love patchouli, hate jasmine or ylang ylang
MMM - lazy Sunday mornings, DKNY woman and lush something wicked are my favourites. Feel free to recommend!

marceline · 23/12/2014 22:25

I am also delurking at last to say thank you ladies for introducing me to a whole new magical world of which hitherto have been almost entirely ignorant! Until now I have been limited to the mass market fragrances and although there are still some old favourites there, I feel that i have embarked on a journey of discovery. I had no idea, for example that the Chanel Exclusifs even existed. How exciting! And so many others...So, to start me off I have ordered a sample set of L'Artisan Perfumeur, as well as a couple of Chanel samples. And today they have arrived.

So. SOTD - No. 28 La Pausa - What a joy. So sophisticated and elegant, and so many layers, I am enjoying it even more as it's faded a little. Curious if it will still be there on my sleeve tomorrow.

I am trying to resist trying another until tomorrow. What will be next? Mure de Musc or Chasse au Papillons?
