There's a chill in the air as we head towards Autumn. Some of us may have jetted off to sunnier spots, some of us are lounging on yachts (kind of) but we're still going strong 44 editions in. Come and join us for fun, friendly fashion and beauty chat. All welcome, any budget. :)

opps link fail

Stokey · 02/09/2014 12:46

OOh lovely buys Liberty

Thanks for the job support, I was quite confident I would find something but have had a couple of companies tell me they're on a hiring freeze so am feeling a bit less optimistic. And applied for the perfect job only to get an auto HR reply saying they'll be in touch in 6-8 weeks!

I think I'm more stressed out for my childminder/nanny as I'll have to look after my own children for a few months if I'm not working and this will impact her. It's tricky when other people depend on you.

libertychick · 02/09/2014 13:57

Fingers crossed for you stokey.

Any of you had any experience with complaining about dry cleaning? DH picked my coat up today and it is damaged. Coating has come off the buttons and the seam at the join of the sleeve and shoulder is puckered. Looks to me like too much heat used. I am really annoyed - its my CDC miltary style coat. I am cross and really disappointed as I love this coat.

QueenCardigan · 02/09/2014 15:09

stokey hope you find something soon. At least you know you'll look fabulous at the interviews Smile
mara it's really difficult being apart from dh with little ones. We did it for a bit and it was pretty hideous. Don't take it to heart if they say they hate you. They don't mean it.
one when do you start uni?

QueenCardigan · 02/09/2014 15:10

Sorry _about your coat lib. No experience of complaining to dry cleaners but I would definitely day something.

Stokey · 02/09/2014 15:56

Thanks QueenC Grin

The 6-8 week one just came in with an interview so am feeling happier.

Definitely complain Liberty

And feel for you Mara. DD1 went through a phase last year of telling me I was ruining her life, mainly when I turned the TV off.

Is anyone else coveting a midi skirt? I saw this green one in Zara today and really like it.

OneLittleLady · 02/09/2014 16:31

QueenC enrollment is on 15th of Sept. Getting very nervous now. My Dfriend and her Dp and their three boys have been to visit today which was nice but exhausting as the boys are all 4 and under!

Sleepwhenidie · 02/09/2014 17:59

Gorgeous Outnet buys Liberty, can definitely see you in those.

Stokey sorry about your work situation, fingers crossed you find something else quickly.

One - hold it together, you will be fine. Everyone will be nervous on enrollment day I promise. Flowers

OneLittleLady · 02/09/2014 18:42

Lovely buys liberty but terrible of the dry cleaners, I would definitely complain, your items shouldn't be returned to you in that state

I know Sleep I'm holding it together, just, i'm just finding it hard as there's been big changes lately and I struggle with change at the best of times! How was your holiday, did you have plenty of time to relax?

Drywhiteplease · 02/09/2014 18:58

Stokey sorry to hear about your job situation. Really keeping my fingers crossed that things improve quickly.
liberty that is gutting, so annoying, I really don't know about dry cleaners at all.
Absolutely no fashion news but I'm really really fancying a leather skirt for autumn, black.

LinusDKD · 02/09/2014 19:18

Evening.

Just ordered this after reading about it on DMBL 40. I can't resist a stripy top. Wink

LinusDKD · 02/09/2014 19:21

And I also ordered this

Grin. Just hope the neckline works for me as a proper crew neck makes me look chunky.

LinusDKD · 02/09/2014 19:25

Oh yes liberty definitely complain!

The dry cleaners ruined my wedding dress and I didn't even notice until many years later when I wanted to show it to a friend. Sad
It was definitely too late to complain and I should have looked in the bag immediately but I was gutted. still am a bit all thise years later

Fedupnagging · 02/09/2014 19:42

Welcome back Stokey, sorry about your job situation at the moment.

Mara your journey home sounds a bit stressy to say the least. Travelling with young children requires nerves of steel!

Definitely complain to the Dry Cleaners Lib - obvious damage is usually noted (where I go) before they take the garment so in your case, if none was noted, it will help your case. Although that doesn't help the fact your coat is damaged. Is it repairable?

One, loved the dress you linked yesterday. Think it would definitely suit you. Don't worry about college, you will love it.

Dry am so glad you deleted your post yesterday as I found it rather shocking. Fancy wanting to use your wardrobe. cheek of it Grin

I wondered the other day and no one replied !whether it would be worth getting a real leather skirt or a good faux leather? How quickly do you think they will date? in any event I'm on a no spend September so just looking ATM.

I have decided to embrace the leather cuff look and wore this today. I think I'd like a few more leather bracelets to wear with it.

Whilst looking for the cuff link, I found this. It is very lovely.

This bag had its first outing today. I had some nice comments which is always lovely.

Fedupnagging · 02/09/2014 19:47

Oops, wrong link - didn't mean to link the jumper, meant to link
this leather jacket.

Nice tops Linus. I love a stripey top and have lots a few which I wear regularly.

libertychick · 02/09/2014 20:18

I am really annoyed about the coat. Dry cleaner was adamant they followed garment instructions and I need to complain to CdC. It's not a complete write off, I can replace the buttons and I think the puckering will be ok once I wear it a couple of times but it's taken the glow off the coat for me if that makes any sense. I could cry TBH (saddo) it didn't even really need cleaning, I was just on a roll of sorting out my wardrobe and thought it would be a good idea to 'freshen it up'. I would have been better off just sponging a couple of marks and hanging it in the bathroom after a shower. Lesson learned for future reference - and they have stupidly lost a customer - I get a couple of items a month cleaned there and lots of minor repairs but I'm never using them again.

Stokey · 02/09/2014 20:24

Very annoying Liberty definitely complain to CdC.
I like the leather cuff Fed up slightly reminds me of my Aha phase, leather shoe laces a la Morten

Dry did you ever find the perfect court shoe? I need a black not suede, not too high, interview suitable pair.

libertychick · 02/09/2014 20:30

Fedup I think there are lots of nice faux leather skirts around and some real leather at reasonable prices too. I think you just need to have a look at several. This Zara skirt (I think it's that one) was linked by Sansucre on another thread recently and I saw someone wearing it in London at the weekend and it looks fantastic. I like your leather cuff and that leather jacket is a great colour.

Dry this probably isn't the type of thing you want - I am assuming you would want a pencil style leather skirt but I love this flared one.

Nice tops Linus. I have banned myself from buying stripey tops!

BrandyAlexander · 02/09/2014 20:33

Evening all! Thank you for the hand holding yesterday. Thanks So ds wailed again this morningSad was much better to go to work and be distracted than stay at home and fret. He had a lovely smile when I picked him up though.Smile Unfortunately, the dcs have been so tired they have been total horrors this evening.

Lib, sorry to hear about your jacket. My dry cleaner is really conservative and I can see why now, you poor thing.

Fedup, I would probably go down the pleather route on the basis it's a trend I am not sure about. I have been thinking of doing the same however I slapped myself awake as I am not really a skirt person! Love the cuff. Randomly makes me think about the hermes leather wrist band watch which is what I would love dh to get me for Xmas!

Mara, your journey home made me want to weep for you. Been there lovey! Thanks

Has Shop been around today? Was today the first day mini Shop was at preschool? Hope it went well. Thanks

And good luck to Sleep for tomorrow.

libertychick · 02/09/2014 20:35

I do want to complain to CdC Stokey but I am so busy and it means a trip into town with the coat in tow etc etc - could really do without the hassle. I don't have the receipt although it will be on CC statement, just feels like another sodding job to do - wow I am on a whinge over this Sad. Can't quite believe how much the whole thing has annoyed me charmed life really

maradesbois · 02/09/2014 21:14

Lib same thing happened to me last year at dry cleaners with a MBMJ striped silk dress. They must have used too harsh a product and the navy stripes ran into the white. They sent it away to their head office and returned it weeks later with a report insisting that they were not at fault and any claim had to be made to the manufacturer. I complained that it was at least 5 years old and had been cleaned correctly umpteen times by them before but to no avail. I didn't even bother trying to go back to where I bought it as it was so old and clearly not faulty as had been successfully cleaned in the interim. Sorry not to have a more positive story, am still annoyed about it now. Would try going back to the store though.

Fedup that is a gorgeous bag! love the colour. For skirt I think it depends what shape you want. A leather pencil skirt is a classic & worth going real whereas the full ones are very now and perhaps less of an investment.

Novice its a really good sign that ds was happy when you picked him up! focus on that Thanks

Stokey well done on getting interview.

Drywhiteplease · 02/09/2014 21:14

Fedup started treading your comment and nearly had a heart attack! thought you were about to take me down Grin
I did see your pleather question but forgot to answer.....I always think if I can't tell it's not real leather then no one else can unless they sniffed it which would be a but weird Grin . I had a great pleather slight a line WHY did I bin itSad a few years back and it really didn't look fake.
Stokey not yet! but I'm hoping to try the Florettes from LK Bennet...will keep you all posted.
Mara nightmare! but you're home now thank god.
Liberty I am sorry to say this, but when I worked in clothes shops, and customers brought stuff in ruined by dry cleaners, it was a never ending yoyo....neither parties accept responsibility.. I actually always blame the dry cleaners but proving they were in the wrong is virtually impossible. It's crap. Sorry.

Drywhiteplease · 02/09/2014 21:15

Oh and Liberty I like that leather skirt a lot but as you rightly suspected! I'd rather a pencil shape......but with a twist impossible

Drywhiteplease · 02/09/2014 21:16

Predictive text ahhhhhh!
"I was READING..."

libertychick · 02/09/2014 21:21

That's what I assumed Dry. I just need to get over it. I am blaming the dry cleaner - my DH pointed out there is a new v young chap working there so he probably overdid the chemicals or the heat, the puckering definitely looks like heat damage. Right I am going to shut up about it now Smile
