Dp is dyeing his hair and wants your advice

Dp has booked an appointment at our local hairdressers after much personal debate have his hair dyed professionally. There was an incident with box dye so he's not going down that road again.

He's going blonde but he's not sure how blonde or which kind of blonde to go. I can't really advise him as I've never dyed my hair. And I'm completely different to him in terms of colouring. He's agreed to ask the collective wisdom of mumsnet.

Thanks in advance. Smile

Not sure how we can help, as we don't know if he's grey and wants to go blond, but had dark eyebrows, or a red beard!
Is his hair thick or thinning- has he a bald patch. Is his hair long or short.

Does he want to look like this

Or Thor?

I think the hairdresser will have a better idea of what he needs.

Its not to cover greys, its to go lighter but in a natural looking way.

I think his hair looks nice as it is, & it matches his eyebrows and the baby's hair

enormouse · 30/05/2014 13:59

I think it's nice as it is too but he wants to go lighter and I'm sick of hearing him talk about it.

Yeah I'm not a fan of men who mess with their hair (dye/perm) for cosmetic reasons. He is so young -- he doesn't need any of that!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 30/05/2014 14:09

Oh well in that case, if it will shut him up..... Grin

DocDaneeka · 30/05/2014 14:19

Hairdresser will advise. In my experience a good colourist will listen to what you want then guide you to something suitable.

In the past, I have frequently rocked up and said 'I want it different' and they have obliged and found a colour that works. Harder to be so vague now that 24h patch tests have wrecked spontaneity, but still possible.

LulaPalooza · 30/05/2014 14:20

He should either do it gradually - have it lightened a few shades with highlights, then a few more in a few weeks and so on until it's a shade he likes or just do the complete opposite and go for a really dramatic change

enormouse · 30/05/2014 15:42

I really hope he doesn't come back looking like Daniel Craig or spike from buffy. I'm quite fond of the weird David tennant/Ewan McGregor hybrid thing.

Still it's his head.

My advice ?

Don't Smile

Annianni · 30/05/2014 15:51

what she said

Don't do it.

enormouse · 30/05/2014 16:04

We've been together about 5 years and I've been hearing 'do you think I should go blonde?' for about 4 and a half of those years.

If it goes badly, I will never have to hear that phrase again. Grin

He should do it. It will be horrible. He'll grow it out and that will be the end of it.

AnyFucker · 30/05/2014 17:17

and he will look a right pillock while it grows out

could be a laugh, I s'pose Grin

AnyFucker · 30/05/2014 17:20

I have just spotted the pic

I don't want to be mean, but he is receding at the side

Why on earth would he want to start peroxiding his barnet ?
Perhaps he should make do with a naff thinning ponytail and be done with it if he wants to look daft?

enormouse · 30/05/2014 17:32

I don't think it's a recede AF, it's been like that since he was about 7 - I've seen photos. It's just seems to be the same as David tennants hair with the mad widows peak thing. Both DSes seem to have it too.

I'll take a photo of what it looks like and upload it tomorrow.

Good lord your baby is cute.

EasterSundaySimmons · 30/05/2014 17:56

The only time for males to dye their hair in my opinion is when they are teenagers.

Any older and they look sad and desperate as if they are holding in to their youth or are incredibly vain.

I've never seen a man with dyed hair that didn't look like it was dyed.

Sorry, I know that isn't much help!

EasterSundaySimmons · 30/05/2014 17:58

I've just seen the pic. He is a nice looking man (cute baby), his hair is fine as it is and he will silly I'd he has blonde streaks put in or an all over blinding which will just make him look like your gay best friend when you are out and about.

dexter73 · 30/05/2014 18:01

If he has been going on about it forever then he should get it done as soon as possible just to shut him up. I think he should go platinum Grin

OwlCapone · 30/05/2014 18:02

Another "don't do it" vote. IMO, It'll look ridiculous with dark stubble for a start, and it won't look at all natural.

MargotLovedTom · 30/05/2014 18:03

Yes, or in some 80s tribute band, or modelling himself on Shane Warne.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/05/2014 18:07

I agree, that is one cute baby.
