Dp is dyeing his hair and wants your advice

Dp has booked an appointment at our local hairdressers after much personal debate have his hair dyed professionally. There was an incident with box dye so he's not going down that road again.

He's going blonde but he's not sure how blonde or which kind of blonde to go. I can't really advise him as I've never dyed my hair. And I'm completely different to him in terms of colouring. He's agreed to ask the collective wisdom of mumsnet.

Thanks in advance. Smile

His eyebrows are too dark for blonde. If his style icon is Alistair Darling then he is in luck......

Tis a very bad idea.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 30/05/2014 22:20

I think you should encourage him rather than try to put him off. Then take lots of pictures for posterity and laugh and laugh.

SirChenjin · 30/05/2014 22:31

Some might think Simon Le Bon, others might think....

I think he'll look good blonde. DH was bald by 26, might as well do it while you can

Coumarin · 31/05/2014 03:26

He's got bloody fab hair! Why mess with it? His colouring wouldn't suit blonde.

Get him a bottle of sun in because that's what it'll look like after two weeks once his roots come through.

Coughle · 31/05/2014 03:35

Why shouldn't he do it if he wants to? It's only hair, he can grow it out or dye it back!

OwlCapone · 31/05/2014 08:01

No reason at all. However, don't you tell people if you think their plans are a mistake?

EasterSundaySimmons · 31/05/2014 09:30

It's a slippery slope.

First he want his hair blonde.

Then he'll want to pluck his eyebrows.

Then he'll start wearing moisturiser.

Then fake tan.

Before you know it you will wake up one morning next to Peter Stringfellow!

OwlCapone · 31/05/2014 10:22

Is that better or worse than Peter Andre? Worse I guess, because at least you know he'll love your children as PA.

Ok...so I couldn't talk him out of it and hes at the hairdressers now. To give a little perspective, this is how it looked when he dyed it with box dye.

(Please excuse the photo, it was 3 years ago and we were at uni).

Easter I....ahem.... already pluck his eyebrows (just in the middle). Just to keep them apart. Both of us are horrendously afflicted with monobrow.

And he does wear my moisturiser. Hmm

Oh FUCK. IT IS A SLIPPERY SLOPE!

I'm using fake tan as my line in the sand though.

I am just waiting for the photos tbh Grin

AnyFucker · 31/05/2014 11:32

Enormouse, you are very pretty

Your bloke looks silly with blond hair, sorry Smile

enormouse · 31/05/2014 11:40

Thanks AF Blush. I didn't mean this to become an enormouse family album, was just the best pic to show the hair.

I know, I know. The pic actually makes it look better than it was (if you can believe it). It had a weird gingery/coppery undertone to it in real life.

I am still waiting for him to come back.

He looks slightly camp with blond hair I think? Whereas I really like his dark hair. Looking forward to seeing the results!

ophiotaurus · 31/05/2014 11:44

Oh dear. My dad did this in the 80s. It was not a good look...

enormouse · 31/05/2014 12:01

He's back and he's actually done it. It's shorter and fucking blonde. and his eyebrows are too dark

I really really don't like it. I'm pretending it's just a shock and its something I'm going to have to get used to.

I'll upload a photo soon.

I had no idea I'd miss his hair, ffs. I'm now mournfully watching Dr who.

Ooooh... Do we need to practise our ensemble performance of Wild Boys?

AnyFucker · 31/05/2014 12:09

Don't pretend to like it.

DillydollyRIP · 31/05/2014 12:09

If it's short it won't take too long to grow out if you don't like it.

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 31/05/2014 12:10

Wow - he's so cute (and I don't mean the baby!!!!)

Middle aged lady wanders off to get a cold shower!!

Smile Smile

Trinpy · 31/05/2014 12:18

My dh did this a few years ago. He naturally has dark brown hair and eyes and an olivey complexion. And he ended up with hair like Eminem. He did it the night before he met my family for the first time and I had to pre-warn them all that 'he doesn't normally look like this'.

I took lots of photos though and bring them out whenever he starts making noises about 'covering up greys', which helps remind him how crap it looked. Maybe an option for you if his hair looks really bad?

His natural hair colour looks lovely!

EasterSundaySimmons · 31/05/2014 12:41

The picture of him at Uni shows his hair as flat yellow colour which is clearly died and made him look camper than a row of tents!

He looks lovely with his natural hair colour.

You could buy him this t shirt to go with the new hair.
