Hello, welcome, take a seat and get comfy!

A few years ago I started a countdown to Christmas thread. This year it inspired a few follow on threads so now we're on our "Get set for Summer"

The basis of these threads is adopting 20 habits which make a difference but don't take too much time or effort. The habits come from previous threads but can be adapted to your own needs.

Aaaannd, I imagine the rhubarb taste would be stronger with more rhubarb but not too much (250g ish) & you'd get more muffins too.

(I'll stop now Grin )

Hello ladies,

I went to Waitrose today and along with milk, eggs and paper I grabbed a foot file. A-ma-zing! It's nothing special, I just had one of those light bulb moments: when was the last time I actually replaced it? Well, it works beautifully. It would, it's not years old like the one I just threw in the bin.

Also grabbed some 'Pure' oil. My skin is still quite dry, and ageing fast, so I'll give it a try. Cleanse, exfoliate, then oil.

Tomorrow I am going to have my eyebrows and upper lip threaded. And shred.
Also, next week I am starting a weird experiment. I love bread. I make my own, every day. In fact, I am passionate about bread and pasta, that's all I ate all my life. But I am going to eat it every other day, as opposed to all the time.

I am getting ready for another week's holiday in my head. So far I know I am going to a party, that I am stopping for coffee after work one day. I am thinking about the rest.
What have tou been up to?

Smokeyrobinson · 08/06/2014 17:08

Hi all waves may I join in this fantastic thread? I've been lurking for ages, but am a bit shy!

I'm 55 next week and am going to give myself a style & beauty/health & fitness makeover.

Looking forward to posting! :-)

KiaOraOAotearoa · 08/06/2014 17:22

Hi smokey, welcome!
What's your plan? :)

Helgathehairy · 08/06/2014 17:38

No need to be shy smokey just jump in.

I haven't really done anything since Thursday but going to try and do a face mask tonight. My nail varnish is lasting really well but I need topcoat recommendations. I have seiche vite but I don't rate it at all. It just makes my varnish peel off.

Food and exercise still need work. Will plan for a fast day tomorrow and maybe Wednesday but PIL are bringing fish and chips Thursday. Need to up the water as well.

Had a bit of a disaster this morning. DH was watching DD and she got my ipad and threw it from the bed onto the floor. The screen is all funny colours now. Luckily though DH feels sufficiently guilty and has ordered me a new one!

Hi KiaOra - thank you!

Plan as follows:

1). Lose weight - got lots to lose though around 5 stone. I'm going to join Weight Watchers.
2). Get into the habit of walking daily & up my exercise in general
3). Drink more water
4). Aim for a well-groomed casual look. Fairly sorted for work but tend to slob-out a bit at weekends
5). Sort out my limp and lifeless hair - I do have a good cut & colour regularly but need to get a fail safe way of styling it myself so it doesn't go flat and lose its shape
6). Plan and put out work outfit night before
7) Do regular Sunday evening pamper session ( great idea pinched from this thread!!). Going to start tonight.

Smokeyrobinson · 08/06/2014 17:58

Hi Helga! Ooh naughty DD!! I remember my DD doing similar stuff - no iPads in those days though as she's 24 in October! Glad you're getting a new one.

I find drinking water really does improve my skin. Having gone through the menopause my skin has gone from oily/combo to very dry and when I let my water habit slip I really notice a difference.

Top coats - the best I've used is probably an OPI one.

KiaOraOAotearoa · 08/06/2014 19:50

I tell you what works: bubbly does. Every time!!! For any situation!!!
I had a very emotionally draining day. Opened a bottle of ? Cava?prosecco?something with bubbles anyway, and life is already soooo much better!!! Brilliant in fact.

Helga, I use mavala one, when I can open the darn bottle because it keeps getting stuck.

Smokey, accessories are a good way of giving old/plain outfits a new lease of life. You plan sounds great and very achievable :)

Smokeyrobinson · 08/06/2014 22:29

Thank you KiaOra - I bought a few scarves yesterday at Primark to cheer up my outfits. Not going to wait until I get slim to be stylish - going to start now (otherwise it could be a long wait!! Smile

ControlGeek · 09/06/2014 07:30

Sorry for extended absence from this thread - work have had a desk shuffle, and it's now impossible for me to mn there - how inconsiderate!!!

I've been very good for the last couple of weeks - I have shredded every weekday, kept up with my alternate day fasting, been pampering my hair with intensive conditioner, and even cheese grating my hooves in the shower! I'm trialling some fake tan for a company so that's giving me an 'interesting' new look :)

I'm back to fitting into all of my work clothes again - still got about 9lb to drop, but so far that's a loss of 5lb in four weeks.

Braces get fitted today - ooh err! I can't believe that I am actually excited to be going to the dentist Grin I have an appointment in 10 days to find out whether I'm accepted as a medical tourist in Spain. It would be so lovely to hit my goal weight before going out there, I might actually take a bikini along if I do.

I may not get to post daily any more, but I promise to at least keep on top of reading, and cheering you all on.

Pollywallywinkles · 09/06/2014 10:10

Hope all goes well with the brace fitting Control.

I've had a crazy weekend, with some early birthday surprises. Think its sensible to let things ride for the next few days and get back on top of things when I go back to work at the end of the week.

My nails have had additional effort over the last couple of weeks, but the polish keeps coming off after 36 hours.

ControlGeek · 10/06/2014 17:57

Thanks Polly! Your plan to relax things for a few days sounds sensible. It's not every day that you have a birthday, after all.

No shred today, my teeth were/are too sore. The pain's breaking through the co-codamol and by the time I'm due my next dose I'm almost clawing the walls. This is actually worse than after the extractions. Still, one day down, only another 444 to go :)

cardamomginger · 10/06/2014 18:57

Good luck Control. I clearly remember the pain when I had my braces fitted and then tightened when I was a teenager. Felt like I'd been hit in the mouth by a netball.

Smokeyrobinson · 10/06/2014 19:31

Hi all

Happy birthday Polly - I'm guessing you're a fellow Gemini?Smile mine's on Thursday!

ControlGeek - ooo sounds very painful, hope it gets easier for you soon.

Re. My annoyingly limp hair - tried a day without washing it & used dry shampoo on roots, then dampened the ends and styled with my BBH, a bit of hairspray and it's looked surprisingly OK all day. So am pleased as I usually have to wash it every morning.

Misssss · 10/06/2014 22:24

-Tiptoes into the thread dragging fat arse behind me-

Hello! I posted a bit on a previous thread,I started to do quite well then let it all slip again. I thought I'd rejoin as a bit of motivation. I'm about to become jobless so before I have to do interviews etc again I'd like to start looking human again. Here's my list.

  1. Stick to vlcd diet. I know many don't approve but I like the quick fix!
  2. Drink at least 3ltr of water a day. My skin really improves if I do this.
  3. Dry skin brush before every shower.
  4. Get serious with skincare. I was in London last week so went to buy some papaya soap to brighten up. I will not go to bed wearing slap and I'll actually use the products littering my dressing table.
  5. Continue with culling clothes. I've been fat forever and have fallen into a trap of buying clothes because they fit, not because they look good. This is going to stop. Unflattering things have been pulled out and I'm selling them all on Facebook.

That's it for now. Really hoping I can stick with it. I'm looking forward to joining in and reading your posts more. I love this thread and the whole idea.

Smokeyrobinson · 10/06/2014 23:01

Hi Misssss Smile - yes I agree upping water intake does wonders for my skin too.

I've been doing the same with my clothes, buying just cos they fit. So am having a revamp at the mo. I've got loads of flab to shift and am finding it a daunting prospect. Going to give Weight Watchers a go.

Good luck with your job hunting.

Ps bet you your fat arse isn't half as big as my mahoosive belly!!

Pollywallywinkles · 11/06/2014 21:21

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It's been a busy few days, I think I will be pleased to go back to work tomorrow for the rest and I am looking forward to getting back into a routine.

Plan of campaign:

Back to healthy eating
Keep up with nails and hands
Don't forget feet
Exercise with additional focus on stomach and arms.

Pollywallywinkles · 11/06/2014 21:25

How are you getting in with your braces now control?

ControlGeek · 12/06/2014 19:21

Hey misss I remember you from previous threads, was it you who was going to do the Cambridge diet? I often wondered how that went. When you've finished with your clothes cull, will you come and do mine please?

My teeth are still so sore, there's not been a day so far where I've not been in floods of tears with the pain. Although to be fair today wasn't quite so bad - I was able to ditch the codeine and get by on just paracetamol and ibuprofen. My first crop of ulcers have erupted now, too. I just keep telling myself this will all be worth it in the long run. Hopefully I can get back to shredding from next week.

Pollywallywinkles · 13/06/2014 18:24

Hopefully things are a little better today Control.

PartTimeProcrastinator · 14/06/2014 22:19

Marking place on thread as I really need to join! I lurked on pre Christmas thread but never quite got stuck in. Will be back later with a plan/list Smile

CallingAllEngels · 14/06/2014 23:49

Have been awol for a week or so. Still have a pic from prom last week tompost on fb.

enjoying a weekend with my dm but have been feeling exhausted and headachey. Think it's a combination of very long journey, not eating or drinking enough yesterday and being 12 weeks pregnant.

Had a proper pamper this afternoon. Long soak in the bath (we don't have one at home and I really miss it) while my dsis entertained ds. Used hair oil, face mask and eye lotion on cotton wool pads then gave my feet a file and slathered on body butter. Took my old polish off my fingers as well but haven't quite summoned the energy to repaint.

KiaOraOAotearoa · 14/06/2014 23:52

Hello all. partime, welcome! Look forward to reading your list :)

Ok, things have been a bit hectic here. Today was 'my day'. Had my eyebrows threaded, wore a pretty dress and spent two hours in the bath with a book and a mug of peppermint tea. Filed my feet really well and moisturised them properly.
I was reading somewhere about malignant melanoma and the fact it sometimes shows up on the soles of feet, so I checked my feet thoroughly. It's one of those things we don't really see or check. So I did.
Also, last time I had a facial I got given these samples, an exfoliator, mask and moisturiser, so I applied them too.

Tomorrow morning I'll do my manicure and pedicure.

Next week I'm on holiday in my head :)

Have a lovely Sunday :)

KiaOraOAotearoa · 14/06/2014 23:54

calling, great minds!
Enjoy your visit!

PartTimeProcrastinator · 15/06/2014 08:09

Right so I made my list

  1. Drink more water
  2. Body brush, exfoliate and moisturise
  3. Gym/swimming 2 to 3 times a week
  4. Walk more
  5. 30 day Abs challenge
  6. Eat more fruit and veg
  7. Manicure and Pedicure regularly

Things I need to keep up from my lurking of old threads
Make up everyday
Regular haircuts
Eyebrow threading
Sorting of clothes to defrump wardrobe

As motivation I picked up a bikini from Primark yesterday and got DP to take a 'before' picture to encourage me to look after myself. Was actually quite surprised that I didn't look as out of shape as I thought!
