Hello, welcome, take a seat and get comfy!

A few years ago I started a countdown to Christmas thread. This year it inspired a few follow on threads so now we're on our "Get set for Summer"

The basis of these threads is adopting 20 habits which make a difference but don't take too much time or effort. The habits come from previous threads but can be adapted to your own needs.

That's a lovely colour butterfly. I re-did mine in Chanel Frisson - a sheer pink with flecks of gold. It is the only Chanel polish I own that I actually rate!

I'm thinking of starting body brushing. Should I? Just bristles or with plastic nobbly bits too?

KiaOraOAotearoa · 26/05/2014 07:29

Hello all!
Back from going AWOL with stuff to report. I probably haven't lost any weight due to copious partying for a week, but I did walk lots, and danced, walked some more etc.

Manicure and pedicure done, I even painted my nails, but because someone else was doing it for me andso on, I now have beautiful deep red shade on, it's quite cool.

I drunk lots of water, everybody was walking around with discreet half liter water bottles, I had 1.5 l ones. But I look tired, because I am.

My two new dresses and my linen skirt were a fab purchase, very confortable and they looked cool. As usual, I got compliments on..... accessories, it is what catches the eyes most and foremost, they make such a difference!!!!

This half term I am getting back on the shred. Need to really do my skin routine properly. Duty free helped with perfume renewal and having a bit of a break helped with networking, got new ideas, made new friends... got out of the routine a bit, that helped.

So, I'm back in :)

CallingAllEngels · 26/05/2014 11:51

Morning all!

Managed my pamper yesterday, even have polish on my nails.

Just picked up a pair of cropped and another pair of straight leg/baggybjeans as am rapid lo y getting to the stage where nothing fits me! Also got a floaty top to hide my tum and a wide brimmed panama for the summer/holiday/garden. I have been wearing more 40s/50s style clothes the last 6 months but guess that's out with an exapnding bump. Time to go a bit more casual. But maybe ramp up the accessories Kia !

I seem to be craving fruit and veg, water and fruit juices rather than junk which is good!

cardamom I've never managed to keep up long enough with body brushing to work out if it makes a difference.

Tonight I'm going to do my legs and put a deep conditioning mask on my hair.

I'm popping into town this afternoon and am going to sort out my wardrobe when I get back.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/05/2014 18:05

I've been inspired to get the summer clothes out of the attic (even though it's tipping down here Grin )

My abdomen is still really bloaty/painful so I'm loathe to invest in any new trousers but I did see some nice printed trousers in M&S that didn't have the elasticated cuffs and the reviews online say they come up big. So I may go back for a pair.

I've got my Leighton Denny Sunbelievable kit so I need to read the instructions and try it this week.

I got a load of Space Saver Bags so I'm going to go through my wardrobe and be really scrupulous, store or recycle.

Then wax legs/armpits
Dye my roots
Deep conditioner

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 26/05/2014 20:30

Evening all!!

Never managed the pamper night as I went to the pub instead..Priorities!!!

I am perusing the internet today for clothes. Am working late so will have time to shop around!

Shred starts tomorrow.

I saw another thread about Kelp. Good for energy etc. Anyone ever tried it?

cardamomginger · 27/05/2014 15:51

Went to see the nutritionist/dietician person again this morning and the hard work (low carb, cut out histamine producing foods, cut out IBS aggravating foods) has really paid off. Not only am I feeling SO much better, I have lost 2.5 kilos in 10 days and the fat callipers show that it has pretty much all come off my hips and thighs!

Woo hoo!!!

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 27/05/2014 18:05

Ooh that sounds good! What are histamine producing foods?

cardamomginger · 27/05/2014 18:52

www.allergyuk.org/common-food-intolerances/histamine-intolerance

It's a bit grim! I'm not cutting out absolutely everything - just the stuff that I was eating a lot of.

(Before someone jumps all over me for being 'faddy' and/or 'trendy', I have a proper diagnosis of a histamine problem from a consultant immunologist, I am on medication to suppress my reaction to histamine, and trying to make dietary changes was his idea!)

ControlGeek · 28/05/2014 07:34

That sounds very hard cardamom, well done for sticking to it and getting such good results.

takeme I saw another thread about kelp too but I can't make my mind up whether or not to believe the anecdotal stuff. From experience though I can say that vitamin D is great for boosting energy. I take the high strength one from H&B.

Day 2 of the shred today - I've jumped straight back into level 3 as I didn't think I'd had that long of a break from it. Oh boy! Even my aches have aches :)

cardamomginger · 28/05/2014 13:33

Yes - vitamin D is really good!

Thanks control. It's helped that DH has been away the last 10 days, so it's been easier to experiment with recipes and get the hang of it. Hopefully I will start reintroducing a few things in the next few weeks. As long as I can have egg cooked in stuff (so I can bake), the occasional bit of chocolate and the odd glass of wine and whiskey, I will be happy. Am more than prepared to trade potatoes, tomatoes and soya milk for that!

How are you healing after your dental work? Feeling OK?

KiaOraOAotearoa · 28/05/2014 19:50

Excuse me, anybody seen the b***y summer, because we've been having the lights on in the day for days now and I'm really really fed up!!!!!
I even bought sandals!!!

I think I am getting a tad depressed with the cold and the dark and the rain.
Sorry about that.

cardamomginger · 28/05/2014 20:17

Crap isn't it? I'm back in my boots.

ControlGeek · 29/05/2014 08:00

Well on the mend now thanks cardamom, I'm back to eating normally and even shredding isn't causing that pounding pain that I had before. So chuffed - a week on Monday I'll have my braces fitted and then I'm on my way to a lovely smile Grin

kia I know, it was looking so promising then some bloody newspaper had to forecast a six week heatwave and put the kaibosh on it all.

Shredded again this morning - will do tomorrow as well then take a break over the weekend. So far, 3 3/8 lb lost in four days due to 5:2 and shredding. Feeling good!

cardamomginger · 29/05/2014 13:40

Well done control Grin.

lucysmam · 29/05/2014 14:03

I'm back...app is fixed! Grin

I'll catch up properly shortly, just popping in to let you know I am still here.

Helgathehairy · 29/05/2014 16:05

I guess now isn't a good time to say the weather over here in Ireland is glorious?!

In bad news, my skin is reacting very badly to something. The good news is I think I know what so I'm gone back to basics for a few days.

Keep forgetting water as well. Eating is going well though. I now weigh slightly less than I did when I went to New York.

OP posts:
cardamomginger · 29/05/2014 16:45

Er no, not really a good time!

Well done on the weight loss Grin. And well done on working out what been irritating your skin (but sorry you have had this!).

KiaOraOAotearoa · 30/05/2014 14:01

Hello hello!
Today I am the domestic, only just sat down with my lunch.
All washing done, too, all uniforms and clothes ironed, everything ready for monday.
Tomorrow however, instead of doing chores, I shall have the morning to myself: body brush, facemask, soak, the lot :)
I have a little tea party to go to, so I'll just enjoy the weekend. I restart the shred tomorrow :)

sotiredfornow · 30/05/2014 15:18

I'm late joining this party. I'm in such a rut and need somewhere to check in with what I manage each day. Here's my list of priorities:

  1. No gluten or sugar (both make me feel horrific)
  2. Up the protein & fat, low carb
  3. Run 4 times each week
  4. Stick to my skin routine (currently trying Liquid Gold and Paula's Choice)
  5. 2+ litres water daily
  6. Buy some rubber gloves & wear for all cleaning round the house. Be diligent about hand cream
  7. Get a haircut and use the treatment products I already have
  8. Find the time to gradual tan face & body.
  9. Foot cream every night

Oh dear, so much to do. How do you all find the time with young DC?

Also I wash my hands a zillion times a day - does anyone know of a kind hand wash?

Pollywallywinkles · 30/05/2014 23:35

I keep plodding along.

I should have got my fingers out and coloured my hair over the last couple of days, but work has been so full on that I couldn't be bothered. I'm having my hair cut in the morning, so unless I get up at silly hour, the colour will have to wait until after my hair cut.

My nails are still rubbish, so I filed them down to next to nothing yesterday. I will, I will get some polish on them over the weekend.

Exercise is progressing.

AppleHEAD · 31/05/2014 08:29

A late entry...
I've lost 9lbs but I still have 2 stone to go . I want to be 10 stone... I'm 5'9 and if I'm honest I think 10 and a half is more doable.
Nails and hair are good...
Skin is a but dodgy I need to drink more water or any really...
I'm doing Pilates
I am also going to try and do that couch to 5k running thing..
I've had some very sad things happen recently so I'm hoping all this will help me become less sad x
Body brushing sounds like something I need. Is it simply that or do you do it in the shower?

CallingAllEngels · 31/05/2014 20:07

Evening all!

Welcome apple - sorry to hear you've had a hard time of it recently Flowers I think you're supposed to dry body brush before you get in the shower she says

sotired I think (especially when you have small DC) it's good to start with one thing at a time, then introduce a new thing every day/week/month. Apparently it takes 28 days for something to become a habit!

DH and I went to a birthday party for one of his friends last night. I got all dressed up in the Lady Vintage swing dress I bought for the school prom next week, make up, hair, pearls......and was feeling a little overdressed when DH slunk in in his jeans and shirt. THEN he showed me where we were going....a place that (when not closed for private functions) does darts and snooker. Hmm

I went and got changed into bird/floral print sleeveless shirt with a waist tie and cropped skinny jeans and am SO glad that I did! Everyone else was very casual, plus, they let people smoke inside (which is very illegal here) so when we left we absolutely stank of smoke, so very glad I didn't wear my swing dress/petticoat. Had to put some dry shampoo on my hair this morning to refresh!

Have realised I'm almost out of body lotion (I usually use whatever's in the cupboard, often presents from Christmas/birthday) so want to buy something scrummy. If I was in the UK I'd get some soap and glory. My favourite was one by benefit (trying to remember what it was called....touch me and try to leave...or something poncy like that) but it's really expensive which is why I stopped buying it. Might give the body shop cocoa body butter another go. In last pg I used bio-oil which was okay (didn't have nay stretch marks) but didn't love it. What does everyone else use? The last one I bought myself was a dove one which was quite gloopy and didn't really impress me.

Going to get my hair cut next week on Friday after our 10/11 week scan, all ready for the prom in the evening!

Have done a Liz Earle order today. They have their new seasonal C&P out (Orange blossom and chamomile) so have stocked up (love the special editions - still using the pink grapefruit and patcha-somethinggy from last year) and a good deal on their essentials (no P&P in UK plus free eyebright soothing eye lotion which is great as eye make up removing or soaked in cotton wool pads for an eye mask).

Also ordered some Burt's bees gift sets for presents for others, though may have to snaffle one of them for myself!

CallingAllEngels · 31/05/2014 20:10

And meant to add, hurrah that the summer has returned. I was in jeans and boots on Wednesday as well cardamom but today had to put on sunnies and new floppy hat (which looks awesome despite DH telling me TWICE that it doesn't suit me - does he really want me to start commenting on HIS fashion choices!)
