Come and join us for friendly fashion chat. Some of our glasses are empty because we're trying to loose weight, but were still happy, non judgemental, flippant and welcoming lot. We love new visitors (ESP Shop who will hug you)

The phrase which really gets on my wick is when the youngest wants to go somewhere he says "up XYZ" e.g. "Can we go up the shops?" "Can we go up bowling?" It's "to" not up!!

libertychick · 03/04/2014 23:02

I look forward to it Ujjayi. That scene is really funny.

Dry we had a day out in Windsor last week - DD is happily telling everyone about the 'burga' she had in 'Windsa'

justasecond · 03/04/2014 23:05

ooh that is nice Liberty

libertychick · 03/04/2014 23:06

libertychick · 03/04/2014 23:20

Thanks Turq

What to do, what to do, hmmmm...will sleep on it, that's a great price....

BrandyAlexander · 04/04/2014 05:14

Hello all! I have this thought every time brogues come up in discussion....nope, don't get it, just not me Grin. I looked at all the links and still thought....nope, don't get it, just not me! Grin

Marsha, love your new purchases, great taste!

So i went shopping this evening, but I was so tired it was a bit of a non-starter. I only managed to get this Ann Taylor knit.

Decameron · 04/04/2014 07:55

Ujjayi, I'd love to see the link too. Best of luck.

Liberty, my brother, SIL and cousins are in Melbourne, they say there are lots of nice boutiques but expensive. So I would definitely stock up here! However, lots of companies now deliver to Australia.

DD1 has a very clipped SW London accent, DD2 (2) has picked it up too but sometimes sounds American. We are Irish and DH likes to annoy me by telling me I sound like Rachel Allen (I hope not), but spent a long time in the US, not sure if DD2 gets it from us or TV!

Brogues aren't my cup of tea either, Novice. Nice detailing on the sweater.

MarshaBrady · 04/04/2014 08:03

Oh god I woke very early and realised I should take those clothes back.

I think they are meh rather than pow and I'd rather buy something amazing for every day for that price. I'm going to check out & other stories and Cos instead, I'm sure there's some worky stuff in there.

a) I have never done very expensive work clothes, or really any at all.

b) If I do the work it will be nearly all work from home, there's no point.

c) the guy that served me irritated me (ok this may not be rational Grin).

On that note how do you like to be addressed in shops? Is there anything that makes you prickle? (miss / nothing / madam)

Decameron · 04/04/2014 08:13

I don't like being followed around all the time, if I want help I ask. The outfit looked great on you, Marsha though.

MarshaBrady · 04/04/2014 08:16

Thanks Decam it is great, but I've got the guilts. Think I should probably get the work first. I fear I might jinx it by being so cavalier!

Ujjayi · 04/04/2014 09:21

Morning all.

Liberty that skirt in your second link is gorgeous. I have something similar in my collection as I love that midi's. They remind me of old Sophia Loren movies.

Marsha I love that outfit but if your instinct is saying no then probably best to return. I hate that feeling of having spent a lot of money but feeling you got little in return.

It's interesting what people choose to wear working from home. I dress up most days. It helps me get into work mode. If I wear my yoga stuff I am far more likely to dither. I also make a point of wearing my shoes if I am doing something methodical such as pattern cutting or sewing. If I'm designing then I need to have bare feet - I have no idea why!

WRT service in stores: in small boutiques - following you around for the hard sell. I hate being ignored though too, either when assistants sit in a huddle at the cash till and finish their conversation before deigning to acknowledge you or because they think you can't afford to shop there/not cool enough/just not right for their brand.

Busy day ahead. Thank you ladies for the welcome. You gave me a much needed lift yesterday Smile.

MarshaBrady · 04/04/2014 09:31

You're right Ujj, on my way to take it back. I was awake at 5am thinking about Liberty opening times it's probably for the best. I'd love to see a link too when it's ready!

Novice great top.

Liberty very pretty, I also really liked the skirts you pinned.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 04/04/2014 09:42

Morning all

Ujjayi I recognise your name from when I was a lurker - hello! How exciting about your label. I'd love to see your designs too.

I love the yellow skirts you pinned liberty. I'm trying to find a statement skirt at the moment for work and play, probably pencil, but maybe flippy or prom-style.

Marsha I think you have to go with your gut feeling, and also spend the most on what you wear the most really. (Not that I practice what I preach when I spend most of my clothed hours in the office and then buy MiH boyfriends!)

Re shopping, I find small boutiques quite daunting, I like it when the assistants are really friendly and ask at the start if I want help and then leave me to browse without making me feel self conscious. But as I get older I'm better at going into shops and feeling that it's actually OK for me to be in there Blush Grin

santamarianovella · 04/04/2014 11:22

Morning everyone,
marsha I totally agree with blair and ujjayi ,spend money on what you wear most, they are lovely though,

libertychick · 04/04/2014 11:54

Crap - just lost a post and have to dash - hello everyone Smile

Marsha Cos have mid season sale on.

Stokey · 04/04/2014 12:03

Marsha can highly recommend the & Other Stories dress I bought, it's silk too. Wondering if,I can wear it with a long sleeved top under tomoro night for a 40th.
Just in a country pub so not too posh.

Woke up at 5 this morning with realisation that 20 people are coming for tea & cake for dd2s second birthday tomorrow and I haven't even thought about party bags or cake. So off on a mission this afternoon, poor neglected second born!

MarshaBrady · 04/04/2014 12:37

Stokey I went in there quickly, some really nice stuff. I had to leave so couldn't try anything on. Saw your dress, looked fab. Great that it's silk too. Good luck for the party!

Liberty thanks had to bolt before I could get to Cos.

Santa I agree.

If the skirt and t are in the sales I'll probably re-buy Blush. They are too ££ for what I need right now, but if they will be half price then I can handle that. And I do like them.

Re sales assistants I really loathe it in small boutiques when 3 people are gushing over someone and there's others milling around like lemons. I walk out when that happens.

Matches are good actually, nice good service, offer you a drink. Great stock and good decent light.

justasecond · 04/04/2014 12:39

Good thinking Marsha sure you can find something nice for work in Cos, stories or even whistles then get something really great instead.
Ujj your collection sounds really interesting, look forward to seeing it.
I hate being stalked in shops. I am not sure I have ever had an honest opinion from a SA anyway, surely not everything will look great on me.I just like being acknowledged then left to myself. I also have an irrational hatred of being called madam. Makes me feel about 100 years old! Not really sure what the alternative is though. I am defo too old for miss.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 04/04/2014 13:31

The new issue of Porter is in shops now, for anyone that liked the last one. Lady Gaga on front cover. Bought it as a weekend treat, looking forward to reading :)

BrandyAlexander · 04/04/2014 14:40

Morning, jet lag is a nightmare :(

I have the weirdest experiences in shops. If i go into expensive shops, people tend to judge by first look and assume i don't have any money, so i either tend to completely get ignored or the security guards tend to trail me around. Those shops don't tend to get my custom. Oh then, there is the inevitable surprise when i look interested in buying something, and i can just tell that they are trying to work out whether i am wasting their time or not Hmm. US shopping experience is just sooo much better.

santamarianovella · 04/04/2014 15:15

I find the SA, here much better than continental ones, those can be very snobbish, while I was at Isabel marant boutique,I had a look around first, then asked one of the SA about the boots I wanted, she said that they sold out within the first day they received them,so I chose another pair of boots, and said to her ok I will take this instead , she came from the storage area, with two boxes and announced that she found the first boots in the "back" in my size, surprise surprise , I was really furious, and although I really wanted them,I told her" no I will take the other ones thanks,"
