Come and join us for friendly fashion chat. Some of our glasses are empty because we're trying to loose weight, but were still happy, non judgemental, flippant and welcoming lot. We love new visitors (ESP Shop who will hug you)

I know i'm not supposed to be here am I? Hmm
But I've driven one of them too - super sexy motor. Followed a RR Evoque today and thought of you Dry

libertychick · 03/04/2014 21:39

Decam you were right re sweltering in today’s outfit! I need to start checking the forecast. Had a funny chat with a colleague about how loath we both are to part with our winter woollies and opaques. Spring/summer dressing requires much more body maintenance! Love your CdC buys and the camo jeans. I agree two sizes down is the way to go with those Gap jeans.

Grin at how fast Marsha went from ‘no shopping today’ to a whole new work outfit! Lovely choices, perfect for you.

Thanks for the brogue feedback Blair and Stokey. I had the Clark’s heeled version last year and wore them out! I am almost decided that I will get the off white cut out’s as they look like a good all round summer shoe. Stokey the Dune ones definitely look worth a try.

How many cardi’s do you now own QueenC Smile – that blue looks perfect for you though!

I like those WC wide legs Fedup, they are definitely coming back in and those ones are classic.

Lovely Mint Velvet sweater Justa.

Shop have a fantastic holiday. I hope your car was sorted in time. And happy holidays to Linus and QueenC too

Good Argos tip Mara, I’ll pop into my local one on Saturday – mixed reviews for the brush on the Argos site though. BTW you asked about the Big Hair – I have one and I think it’s great but too much heat was wrecking my hair. I use it on the days when I need to look a bit more polished.

Hope you are feeling a bit less cranky now Turq - so annoying when things like that happen.

Blair I don’t know what’s worse – the top itself or that price for a poly monstrosity from H&M Confused

Turquoiseblue · 03/04/2014 21:39

Linus, shop, queen, Mara - have really lovely holidays!
Sorry for the grumps earlier all better now, dd had the loveliest snuggle for me when I got home

Dh has been banging on about changing the car - I showed him a link from here - he s shut up now!

Grumpy - remember the baujken jumpsuit you were after - did you get it int the end. ?

Lovely links and shopping ladies

I did go into Matches and not buy or try on a sausage. I think they only have the high end stuff in there. I couldn't find the Max Mara dress or the ts I liked. It was all bonkers pricing. So felt quite good about that, then got side tracked after the phone call whoops!

Drywhiteplease · 03/04/2014 22:01

Shop how fab! Bet you're a great driver.
Queenc where are you off to?
Turquoise which car did you show him.....off to google price of the Aston

Hello all Smile

Thought I would drop by (because apparently having my name associated with this thread will reap rewards Hmm Wink ). And because I fear I caused great offence on the Skate Shoes thread Blush.

Lots of lovely, tempting links on here. I haven't done much shopping recently as I've been too busy trying to finish my collection (this is not an advert, BTW ) I think the last time I posted on here I was trying to decide whether to take a place at Central St Martins or take the leap into creating my own label. I chose the latter and it's a long old road. Having thought I was ready to start making up, I had one of those "it's all crap" moments. Putting your creativity out there for public scrutiny is hellish.

Anyway, I need a distraction from thinking about making clothes and you ladies and your lovely links are just the sartorial medicine I need.

Marsha I love the Sonia Rykiel skirt and agree that navy & orange is a great combination, especially if the navy is quite bright. I also love a good zip detail.

Love all the brogues links - particularly the gold version from Dune. Would like to find a pair for the summer but they look a bit odd on my feet without opaques (I wear them in the winter).

Does anyone else find their style is season dependent? My autumn/winter look is very Vivienne Westwood/All Saints. Lashings of red lipstick, heels, high maintenance hair. However, my spring/summer look is definitely an Isabel Marant vibe. I can't be doing with heaps of pleated/ruched fabrics in the summer. I want floaty silks, block prints and flat leather sandals; natural hair & make up.

MarshaBrady · 03/04/2014 22:15

Oh Ujj I know how you feel, been there too, it's one of the reasons I stick to this thread. It soothes me no end!

(and don't worry no offence on skater thread!)

How exciting about your own label.

I always love messy hair, but I go for flats, flats in summer. I skirted around the whole of town today in ballerina flats and it felt good. I need a flippy skirt too.

libertychick · 03/04/2014 22:16

Hello Ujjayi welcome back Smile

Well done on creating your own label - very brave. I can't begin to imagine how scary putting yourself out there like that is. Have you got a website?

I need to find a spring/summer style. I grew up in Ireland so I only needed summer clothes for about 2 days a year. Also we are planning to emigrate to Australia eventually I honestly can't imagine what the hell I am going to wear all the time over there Confused

Drywhiteplease · 03/04/2014 22:17

That's a great question Ujj
Not sure that my style changes really, prefer winter clothes. I find I'm more high maintenance than normal in summer....all that buffing and leg epilating and fake tanning, it's hard work Wink

Liberty it will funny when you move to Aus, like we have flipped places!

libertychick · 03/04/2014 22:22

I know Marsha and my DD will grow up sounding like you!!

Can I admit something terribly shallow? I keep trying to persuade DH we should go to NZ instead and one of the reasons is that I will look better in that climate Blush

justasecond · 03/04/2014 22:23

Hello Ujj hope you stick around!
In the winter I am all minimalist in dark colours and no pattern or jewellery In the summer its complete change with florals, pastels and pattern galore Blush
I would like some brogues but have never found the right pair. I think I suit loafers and slipper flats better.

libertychick · 03/04/2014 22:25

Obvs I have good reasons too like family links, cheaper housing etc but the vanity issue looms large. I have memories from living there before of just sweating all the time.

MarshaBrady · 03/04/2014 22:25

Oh that's funny Liberty re NZ Grin

I know my parents sound like Brits, I sound Aus, my dc sound like British children. And it goes on! They will probably move there one day.

libertychick · 03/04/2014 22:39

My DD is starting to sound so 'London', so weird when I sound Irish and my DH sounds Kiwi.

I have warned DH that I will be on a mission this summer to buy nice cotton dresses and flat leather sandals whenever I see them as I need to stockpile nice clothes for the new life and some of my friends who have already relocated tell me horror stories of shops full of polyester and really inflated prices. One of them is coming back here next week and is only bringing one outfit as she intends to spend 3 full days shopping for herself and the kids.

Drywhiteplease · 03/04/2014 22:46

My kids have very faint northern tones....the 'a' in bath and class for example. They take the Mickey out of my accent, their friends think I'm posh and my work collegues thought it was hilarious when we went on a trip to a castle....kept making me say 'caaaarstle'

Marsha flippy skirts and ballet flats is one of my favourite looks. One of my best purchases at the beginning of autumn was a BNWT black tiered, flippy silk georgette knee length skirt from my local charity shop. I feel très Parisienne when I wear it, even though tis made by some random brand. It will definitely remain in my wardrobe when I switch over to my spring/summer clothes.

libertychick thank you Smile I considered setting up a website but decided to sell through etsy. I am building a Facebook business page too with the idea of getting friends to like and share. I am reliably told that this is a particularly good marketing tool. A friend of a friend adopted the same approach and within 6 months had to recruit 3 employees to keep up with demand! I began blogging last year but my posts have been very sporadic and more photography than fashion - which is my other major passion.

Very jealous of your moving to Australia. I did the gap year backpacking thing in my mid-twenties and loved it there. I could definitely handle all that lovely warm weather and my, the wardrobe possibilities when you know you are going to have a proper long summer rather than 4 seasons in one day.

Ha ha! Just saw your NZ comments - how funny.

Dry I hear ya on the maintenance thing. But that's what maxi's are for, no?!

We are a multi-accented family too - DH is Dutch, I'm from the north but most people would guess Home Counties instead, eldest DS from London and youngest is Bucks. Eldest DS is very well spoken but has reached an age where he occasionally tries to be all ghetto (I get a bit Kristin Scott Thomas in Salmon Fishing In the Yemen when he does that). Youngest DS is, however, a work in progress - dropping the last letter off of words etc - a real bug bear of mine.

MarshaBrady · 03/04/2014 22:50

Ha in Aus people say paarrsta. I think you say pahsta here

MarshaBrady · 03/04/2014 22:52

Labrl sounds great. Online is the way to go these days.

MarshaBrady · 03/04/2014 22:53

Label

libertychick · 03/04/2014 22:53

Oh my DD does that too - dropping the last letter. It drives me NUTS. I just keep replying using the word the 'right' way. My teenage sister in Ireland tries to do the ghetto thing too (seriously you have to hear a gang of west of Ireland teenage girls doing this - so wrong Grin)

Can you pm me your Etsy? No worries if you don't feel you want to.

Ujjayi · 03/04/2014 22:53

The one Aus difference that sticks in my mind was "crus-ont" (accent on the first syllable) instead of croissant. It took me ages to work out what they were when I first heard people use the word!
