Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

Oo might have to look at that one flipflopsam. I gel it prohibition the other day (collection 2000 as was). Is nice. Maybe bit dry but may just be me. I have way too mAny lipsticks at the moment, all a bit similar in shade really! Often I feel a bit silly I'm pinks. Feels less classic than red but it suits me better I think?
Anyone found a good white shirt? Quite want one that's long enough to wear untucked or tucked with skinny jeans under jackets but also want it to be (whispers) viscose probably? I'll never get to iron it regularly!... Lots of cream ones or really crispy ones but no keepers yet...

didireallysaythat · 26/03/2014 20:02

I have a Revlon red velvet I could put in the post for someone - it really doesn't work for me (makes my eyes look blood shot!). I still haven't found a 100% or 50% colour that I would consider buying clothes in. So I'm sticking to denim with charcoal and black !!

pinkflaming0 · 26/03/2014 21:28

Fooogle my favourite white shirt is this Next perfect shirt

It does need ironing though I'm afraid.

It comes in black too.

pinkflaming0 · 26/03/2014 21:29

didireallysaythat is the Revlon red velvet still on offer?

didireallysaythat · 27/03/2014 06:26

Pink - certainly is. PM my an address and I'll try and pop it in the post this weekend. I'd be happy for someone to make use of it.

QueenCadbury · 27/03/2014 13:42

Hello ladies. I had a fab time in Marrakech and came back with fuschia sandals, navy sandals, fuschia tote bag and fuschia clutch. V happy.

Can't remember who linked the ice blue top but I love it.

SorrelForbes · 27/03/2014 15:34

*Just ordered this overpriced top hoping it might be an Ice Blue. I expect it'll get returned!

Also ordered this in anticipation of a US summer holiday. I have a feeling that it might be a bit too unstructured.*

Both being returned! The top was too boxy but a good colour and the dress was badly sized/labelled. I ordered a M and it was about a size 20.

PoemGirl · 27/03/2014 16:21

Hi Winters - I have namechanged - was ElizabethBathory but MN was taking up too much time and I wanted to quit and see if I was more productive. (I WAS! Much more!!)

Anyway, I am temporarily back and just wanted to recommend my latest lipstick discovery - Mac Craving - similar to Mac Plumful but brighter and redder, but still soft. A bright raspberry really, less fuchsia than Revlon's Raspberry Pie. Really wearable and pretty. I'm a sultry winter, for reference.

OK bye :)

PoemGirl · 27/03/2014 16:25

Oh just to be clear, I didn't re-register just to tell you all that. I'm not that sad :) Am enjoying perusing all the winter chat I've missed but really really can't buy any more clothes....S&B is fatal.

bettybigballs · 29/03/2014 13:54

Hello winters, I've been a bit absent thanks to a self-imposed spending ban and a fairly underwhelming style day experience. I also have been diagnosed with a very mild form of colour blindness - hence my massive difficulties working out winter colours.

All in all, March was a bit shit and I've got high hopes on April being a shit load better from a self-esteem perspective.

I did get to New York, managed to be fairly restrained on the clothes front as work was a bit hectic but went crazy on make-up and beauty products. Clothes wise I bought a gorgeous pair of black, pointy BCBG stilettos and a few 4 pairs of cheap blochs. Make up wise i'm now the proud owner of two new mac lipsticks, two chubby sticks, a revlon matte lip blam pencil (gorgeous), new Bobbi Brown concealer and foundation, new mascara, eye cream and a bag of kiehls stuff. I MAY have spent ten minute stroking my new lipsticks last night... Tragic!

Clothes wise, I'm having a little browse on the Flannels outlet and have found a few interesting bits and pieces:

Love this jumper

not sure this is bright enough

cardie / jacket hybrid that I quite like

I'm still on a particular mission for a boucle jacket, a purple blouse and some spring tops in our lovely bright blues.

What's everyone else shopping for?

TheGrassIsSinging · 29/03/2014 14:22

Hello fellow wintery ones. Just had a HoC session and turns out I'm a Winter (cool, jewel).

Big shocker! Bit scared of all these scary new colours. Have always worn black or browns/autumnal colours

So..what do I need to do? Should I read the old threads? Or can I just plough straight in here?

The idea pf wearing bright lippie and pink and blue is terrifying Grin

SorrelForbes · 29/03/2014 14:28

I love the first jumper but I think the blue on the second one is probably too muted.

SorrelForbes · 29/03/2014 14:28

I'm still searching for a white (preferably silk) t-shirt style top.

bettybigballs · 29/03/2014 14:56

Cheers Sorrel, will leave the second jumper.

Iris and Ink had some lovely silky T shirts a while ago but it looks as though they don't have white at the minute. Will keep an eye out.

A big wave hello to Grassissinging - hope you get over the shock soon :) Lots of great advice on all threads so if you have time it's worth reading them all.

Right, gorgeous day so off for a walk. Happy w/e all.

SorrelForbes · 29/03/2014 15:23

Hi TheGrassIsSinging I'm a Jewel Winter too.

Trust me, you will get used to wearing the bright lipsticks! I tend to wear fuchsia and burgundy shades most of the time. Clothes wise, I've found some good bright (but not scary) looks, for example:

Raspberry silk t-shirt with a cropped damson cardigan
Charcoal jumper layered over a burgundy long vest
Silky dark emerald vest with a black cardian/jacket

TheGrassIsSinging · 29/03/2014 15:27

Thank you and hello betty and Sorrel Grin

My main worry at the moment is that I have a very fixed current style - dresses over tights with boots in winter / dresses with bare legs and sandals in summer. I dont tend to wear lots of layers or pieces, although do sometimes wear a cardi. Trying to think how I can make this look work with my new colour information. Should I wear neutral dresses with brighter accessories/cardis...or what? Bit scared of diving straight in to wear really bright dresses

PoemGirl · 29/03/2014 15:41

I've just rediscovered OPI koala bear-y and have been wearing it non stop - it's so bright but somehow still looks sophisticated and gets compliments (someone thought I had gel nails the other day cos it's so smooth and shiny). Def recommend for winters.

SorrelForbes · 29/03/2014 15:57

I've just bought a black and white stripped dress from Reiss which I'm planning to wear with ankle boots and flats. I also grabbed a fuschia pink Reiss dress on eBay this week. It's bright all right but will look nice with white, navy or silver flats/sandals.

What are your 100% at ** colours?

angelinajelly · 29/03/2014 17:37

Hmm. I've just been diagnosed as a Sultry Winter, and I think she got it wrong. I'm mousy! I have pale-ish pink-ish skin, light brown hair and grey-green eyes. I only got 4 2-star colours, one of which I wouldn't be seen dead in, and the others in my opinion are only ok-ish on me, definitely not my best. So disappointed, I was really looking forward to it, but I just don't find the Winter colours interesting or inspiring at all.

pinkflaming0 · 29/03/2014 19:16

Don't suppose the raspberry silk t-shirt or damson cardi were recent purchases Sorrel?

Those are two of my top colours and I'm looking to add some items to liven up my navy and charcoal dominated wardrobe.

Also, burgundy, carmine and fuchsia (not magenta, cerise or shocking pink).

SorrelForbes · 29/03/2014 19:44

The cardi was an M&S one from about 3 years ago but I wouldn't be surprised if they still do it! I think it's this style (honestly, it's nicer than it looks!) Blush

The top was last season from Mango. They still do it in other colours so might be worth contacting them to see if they have any left.

Meganhunt · 29/03/2014 20:05

Angelina, I'm a sultry winter and also mousey like you. HoC originally diagnosed me as an autumn which I never really got. I requested a re-rate at the style day and turns out I'm a sultry winter. Could you ask for a re-rate? What season/colours do you like? I've always loved winter colours so was very confused my my original autumn diagnosis.

angelinajelly · 29/03/2014 20:36

I think I'm really a dark summer. All the comparisons she did were autumn/winter, and the winter colours were the better of the two. She did a couple of comparisons of the lighter summer colours with winter colours, and I thought the summer ones were better if not perfect, but she wasn't having it. And she didn't try any of the darker summer colours at all.

SorrelForbes · 29/03/2014 21:23

If anyone's on the hunt for a black party dress, then I've just taken delivery of this and it's bloody lovely.

I saw it on another thread where the OP had ordered it in ivory for her wedding (so wish I'd worn a 50s style for mine!). Black is only a double tick at 100% for me but I like to have at least a couple of LBDs in the wardrobe for formal events.

Anyway, it is probably the most flattering dress I've tried for years! Then material is thick which prevents any lumpiness and the waist is actually where my waist is, for once. It has some odd red and white embroidery on the inside seam of the hem. Not sure why but it does add a little splash of colour when you twirl energetically in your bedroom

Strangely, it was £169 when I added it to my Amazon basket. I went back to order it a few days later and it had gone down to £145. It's back to £169 now...

Oh yes, have someone around to help you get out of it. Once I'd got the zip done up I couldn't reach to get it undone. For a minute I thought I was going to have to wake one of the DFC up to unzip me.

TheGrassIsSinging · 29/03/2014 22:50

My 100% at ** colours off the top (left my swatch in my bag downstairs and in bed now Grin):

Raspberry
Emerald green
Labellia (sp?)
Royal purple
Charcoal grey
Carmine
And think there was a navy in there too...

Colours I have steed clear of my entire life....
