Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

That doesn't sound great angelina. You spent over £100 and deserve to feel confident in your diagnosis. Email her and see what she says. If she's not going to be very open minded to going through it all with you then maybe contact HOC head office. If you'd bought an item if clothing for £100 then you wouldn't keep it if you weren't happy with it or the service you'd received. There will always be some colours that work best away from the face and better as shoes/bags (ice yellow anyone?) but on the whole most should look good with some looking excellent.

billandcoo · 02/04/2014 13:19

From what I remember the 2 colours are those you'd look great top to toe in - 100% as in hat to shoes and everything inbetween. Did you not have any 1 or 2ticks?

It does sound odd, my consultant was very thorough about my star ratings.

MissScatterbrain · 02/04/2014 20:55

Agree that I would be contacting HOC HQ if you dont get anywhere with her...

pinkflaming0 · 02/04/2014 21:35

Disappointed - trying to get away from navy/grey/back and found a t-shirt in between light and dark emerald form Dorothy Perkins (only £4 too - bargain!). Only size it's out of stock in is 10 and the 8 is just a little bit too tight, I'd feel self conscious in it and always be pulling in my tummy - arghh! Will have to keep checking back to see if it comes back into stock.

So, I've ended up with yet another navy t-shirt but I suppose at least it's a different neckline and it's a nice dark navy. Smile

Thanks hooger - may have to console myself with a purple top instead.

MrPop · 03/04/2014 10:22

I have just bought ice pink top and berry top to try.

I love this emerald dress but can't justify.

QueenCadbury · 03/04/2014 12:37

I've just ordered this cardi hoping that it's the elusive Chinese/lagoon colour I've been searching for.

SmileAndNod · 03/04/2014 13:30

Sorry to barge in, was on another winter thread aaages ago (nc since then). Did you order that in the bright topaz queencadbury? I have the cropped version of that cardi in my basket at the minute - again I'm after that Chinese blue for the summer.

I need to get out of my navy and grey rut!

QueenCadbury · 03/04/2014 14:33

Hi smile yes! I have ordered bright topaz. Fingers crossed. I had my colours done last April and it's one of my best colours and I've been searching for a cardi ever since!

bettybigballs · 03/04/2014 16:05

Just popping by to say that i'm loving all the links - some gorgeous clothes knocking around. Very tempted by the ASOS top but going to hold back as i can wear boxy clothes.

SmileAndNod · 03/04/2014 17:17

I too am enjoying the links. I can't quite work out what type of winter I am though. At 100% I have five colours: Outstanding - raspberry and carmine,
Excellent - charcoal and lobelia, Very good - grey

At 75%: Outstanding - charcoal, indigo, navy, lobelia, magenta, dark emerald, pine green; Excellent - grey, royal purple, royal blue, electric blue, fuchsia, damson, Chinese blue, lagoon blue

I'm still trying to find a dress for an upcoming wedding (DB). Should I go for one of the 100% colours? Is that what that means? This has just arrived in the ultra marine. Dd says it makes me look fat so probably not a keeper anyway but is it a winter blue do you think?

Pinickins · 04/04/2014 08:14

Hi I'm giving another recommendation for Clinique Chubby Stick in Pudgy Peony. Since being diagnosed as a Jewel Winter last autumn I've struggled to find an everyday lipstick that looks good with my colouring but doesn't take ages to apply properly as some of the other darker ones do. This one may well if the bill! Bit pricey though but it might be worth it if I use it as often as I have over the last few days.

Witchywitch · 04/04/2014 08:35

Can I ask what you winters wear in summer? I love my newly diagnosed winter colours but they do seem more suitable for the winter season. As there are no muted or pastel colours, what are you all going to wear in the summer season?? Also the bright and dark lipsticks seem much more suited to the winter season than summer

SorrelForbes · 04/04/2014 09:25

I seem to be filling my wardrobe with white and navy at the moment! I bought WHITE-XL&refpage=tops this yesterday from Hobbs. Should look good with skirts, shorts and trousers for Spring/Summer.

I'm looking for a couple of tops in ice colours and have already bought a black and white stripped dress, a navy skirt and some navy loafers. There's a theme here...

Lipstick wise, I'm sticking with my usual favourites (plus the Pudgy Peony Chubby stick recommended a couple of posts above, which I've just ordered!)

MrPop · 04/04/2014 12:16

Witchy I agree that the colours seem more suited to winter months but there are some light colours in the palette - like the ice colours and then the bright pinks and bright blues. I also think light emerald is pretty summery. I would also wear navy and grey in the summer. I think the fuschia lipsticks would look summery, like revlon raspberry pie.

Re the tops I bought yesterday, the ice pink one was a great colour but I didn't really like the shape on me (too slouchy) and it was a little bit see through.

The AV top is a lovely colour so I look forward to wearing that. And here it is featured on AmberNectarine's blog !

Here

MrPop · 04/04/2014 12:17

I love this dress Do you think it is light emerald or a bit too bright?

Witchywitch · 04/04/2014 13:36

Thanks sorrel and mrpop. I am struggling a bit with ice colours though, what makes a colour ice and not pastel??
I love that green mrpop

bettybigballs · 05/04/2014 10:22

Morning all, offspring are all playing quietly leaving me to drink my tea and browse - heaven.

QueenCadbury - has the cardi arrived yet? the colour looks so lovely on screen, i'm looking forward to hearing what it's like in RL. Opps just seen you only ordered on Thurs, i'll be more patient! :)

witchywitch - I'm sure someone will give a much better explanation than me but I take ice colours to mean that there's no warmth whatsoever in them compared to pastels so they look cool and crisp IYSWIM?

I quite like this shirt but only smaller sizes left

this looks quite icy to me what do you think?

MrPop · 05/04/2014 10:42

Betty I think that does look icy (it's gorgeous).

Witchy I think they are difficult colours to find, think they are white with just a hint of colour. For some reason the outnet seems to have quite a bit of those colours, I found quite a few in the t by alexander wang section.

Kettlewell do them too but I kind of find them over priced (as the outnet can be but the clothes are so lovely from there!)

Witchywitch · 05/04/2014 10:46

Thanks Betty, yes I think I see what you mean, maybe difficult to see on actual clothes but it's all a learning experience I'm finding!
Queen, that cardy looks a perfect colour.
Betty, both gorgeous tops, and lovely colours IMO.

Witchywitch · 05/04/2014 10:47

Thanks mrpop. Will keep looking. I think kettlewell is great for colours but I find the styles aren't very inspiring, for me anyway.

QueenCadbury · 07/04/2014 21:12

betty I was away but the cardigan arrived on Friday. bright topaz here. It's more a match for lagoon blue rather than Chinese blue and is very bright but is great for me. Very pleases with it. The only thing that annoys me is that it has a contrast bit on the button holes which is green. Almost emerald but not quite!

witchy I wear a lot more white tops in summer (as opposed to grey/navy/black) in winter. Unless it's really hot I always have a cardigan on Grin so I get my colour from that. There are certain cardis that I prefer in the winter months and those that I prefer in the summer ( eg the Boden one I've just bought is more likely to be a summer one). I tend to wear bright pink lipsticks anyway so suit both the winter and summer months.

I'd really like an ice blue top too.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 07/04/2014 22:08

Hello all, have been lurking for weeks now. Really appreciate this thread.

Had a clear out of my wardrobe today and realised it is nearly all navy, grey, black and white so have just done a massive shop online with Debenhams for fuschia and purple to brighten things up! Am looking for emerald green tops too but no luck so far.

Am quite excited about this cardi.

I did try the blueberry and rich rose jumpers and cardis from Woolovers but found them a bit too soft/dusty so sent them back. I think I need a really purply hot pink like a fuschia or magenta.

I have bought some skirts and dresses for summer...quite unlike me to think ahead like this. I think this in navy from Boden is worth a try for a dramatic gamine.

I've been told by my HOC lady not to wear calf length skirts or trousers, only knee length skirts. They do look better. But now I'm wondering about shorts/cropped trousers and wondering what to do.....Confused

SorrelForbes · 08/04/2014 08:01

Winters, don't buy this white t-shirt from Cos. It's cream Sad. The search continues...

pinkflaming0 · 08/04/2014 21:47

Face your wardrobe sounds like mine!

Been on an all day shopping trip today. Didn't manage to step away from the navy and grey entirely but this is what I came home with:

Raspberry cardi - H&M so not great quality but lovely colour, I can imagine I'll wear it to death so maybe should've bought two?
Raspberry fine woollen scarf - House of Fraser sale item not what I was looking for but perfect colour so had to get it whilst I saw it (naturally)
Emerald green t-shirt - Dorothy Perkins. Woo hoo! It's the one that was out of stock online.
Black t-shirt - DP (offer two for £8 so HAD to buy a second one Smile)
Raspberry 'slinky' vest top - Next
Royal blue batwing 3/4 sleeve top scoop neck top - Apricot, again, not great quality but perfect colour and shape
Navy and white striped maxi skirt - Apricot (as above)
Navy drawstring maxi dress - Gap
Light grey fine knit round neck jumper - Gap sale
Navy with off white stripes fine knit round neck jumper - Gap sale
Grey belt with silver coloured buckle (at last!) - Therapy

Phew - my credit card is now going for a lie down in a darkened room!

Nothing was an investment buy, most will maybe only last one season, but the better quality brands all seemed really frumpy. Still I'm pretty much set up for the spring/summer now apart from some nice flat or low wedge sandals.

bettybigballs · 08/04/2014 23:13

Just popping in to give massive snaps to pinkflaming for what sounds like an epic and spectacular shopping day!

You must be happy but shattered!
