Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

Enjoy! I loved my style day, so helpful and interesting. Off to Exeter shopping today and hoping to pick up dresses, tops and shoes for Spring/Summer.

OK, I bought these:

Reiss skirt. A much better match than it looks on screen.

Reiss dress. The background colour is white not cream.

Zara Breton

All of those are lovely Sorrel. What top are you planning to wear with the navy skirt? I have a pleated navy skirt and only seem to wear a grey slim fit jumper with it.

No idea! I'd like to find a really nice white or fuschia silk (or faux silk!) t-shirt.

I also tried this in a 10 but it was small across the boobs. I'm going to order a 12 on-line as it's so rare I find a dress I like with sleeves. The colour was a good match with the Chinese Blue swatch which is a at 100% and * at 75% for me.

I'm still searching for some flats to complete my spring capsule wardrobe (get me!). I want something classic, not a ballet pump (I was told 'no bows' on my style day), perhaps two tone or square toed? The outrageously fashionable male sales assistant in Reiss (he had the most magnificent handlebar moustache) told me to buy bright pink loafers to wear with the skirt. He might be on to something actually...

I was thinking after I posted the Breton top would like nice with a navy skirt. Maybe the top is too casual though? We seem to have very similar taste! I am waiting for my me and em Breton top to arrive but think I will check out the zara one. I also have a black and white stripe dress from hush which just arrived yesterday! Oh pink shoes! I am a gamine so sticking to my unfashionable ballet pumps. Pointed ballerina flats are supposed to be good? Can't link but jigsaw and hobbs had some.

The material on the Zara one is quite delicate so it could work. I'm going to look for a nice cotton t-shirt as well for dressing it down.

I'm a Romantic Classic so can't do bows - too girly!

I'm really pleased with it! I tried to find the Jaeger one that someone linked to earlier but the crappy small HoF didn't have it. I think I prefer the shape of the Zara one anyway.

All lovely sorrell. I am looking for some spring shopping inspiration, go for the pink shoes - that would look awesome. I am a gamine like megan so watching thread with interest as need to get away from my winter uniform of black opaques and boots with everything!

These are labelled as Burgundy but look like fuchsia pink on screen. I find Next shoe sizing a bit erratic so will try and pop into town to try them on (that's if our rubbish Next even has them!). Good price though.

As a Romantic Classic I'm meant to aim for expensive fabrics and classic things with a bit of an edge or a twist. DH is starting to go pale every time he sees me looking at shops on-line Grin

Hi. I'm a Jewel Winter - I posted a little on the last thread but mostly just lurk. I'm getting to grips with my wardrobe but still not quite there with lipstick. The Red Velvet lip butter is good on me but I want something with a bit more staying power. Has anyone tried the Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede ones? I bought Couture and it is nice, but too pinky for me - I want something more deep red, burgundy. I was thinking Backstage, but they don't have it in my local Boots and it is so hard to tell online. Any advice gratefully received!

I'm a Jewel Winter too. The Collection 2000 lipstick in Prohibition and the Kate Moss Rimmel 107 are both red/burgundy shades and last well. The Rimmel one is more matte and has a dryer consistency.

Red velvet lip butter - would that be good for a burnished winter does anyone think?

Seen it recommended a lot but seems I can only get in online from the US.

Still loving the HoC burgundy lipstick which is really a deep pink rather than what I'd call burgundy. Am wearing it today and my mum commented on how much it suited me.

Thanks Sorrel. I've gone off the idea of Backstage as I've found a couple of reviews that say that it has gold shimmer in it, and I really don't want that. I'll look for the ones you recommend.

Pink - I don't know about burnished winters, but Boots have the Red Velvet online in the UK.

Thanks Jenny

I expected it to be a brighter red than it appears www.boots.com/en/Revlon-ColorBurst?-Lip-Butter_1252852/online. Can anyone tell me if this is a true reflection of the colour? Thanks

It is definitely red rather than brown, and buildable - the Boots picture is very misleading, as the actual lip butter isn't brown at all.

Just ordered this overpriced top hoping it might be an Ice Blue. I expect it'll get returned!

Also ordered this in anticipation of a US summer holiday. I have a feeling that it might be a bit too unstructured.

Fingers crossed for you, Sorrell. I've been looking for a top for going out - for the second time in a month I last night plumped for my green jumper and jeans. It is gorgeous as something a little bit special but it must look to my friends as though I only own one top - I wear it every time we go out! I'm really looking for a red/burgundy top, maybe silky - something that looks as though I've made more effort than just slinging on a T-shirt. I ordered this and it is a gorgeous colour, but the shape does nothing for me. I want something a bit more fitted, and with long sleeves as I feel the cold. Back to the drawing board :(

Jigsaw had some long sleeved modal type silky tops but I'm not sure what colours they were.

I went into town looking for a pair of flats today, ideally something in blue/navy/white/grey. I came home with black loafers! Oh well, they're a classic I suppose and I wish I'd kept the identical ones I had in the 80s and saved myself a fortune

Thought I'd report back on my dyeing experiences.

Burlesque red worked well on the peachy pink shirt - some stitching stayed pink but looks OK. Buttons are hidden by front placket so passable without having to change them (boring task!). Best effect was on a pastel pink scarf though - will be wearing that when the weather warms up and I'm not wrapped in my grey GAP woolly scarf any longer.

Navy blue was excellent - blue/grey t-shirt with grey stripes is now dark navy with lighter navy stripes, mid blue GAP khakis now nice deep navy and the only pair of summer shorts I own are now dark navy instead of khaki green (still got green stitching, buttons and waist tie but look pretty good in spite of that).

Hi Jenny
I have the Revlon Ultimate Suede in Backstage. I don't think it has a gold shimmer in it! It is actually my favourite lipstick colourwise (and I've bought a few since having my colours done Wink).
The only problem I find with it is that there is often a very definite line between the dry outside of my lips and the moist inside (not sure if that makes sense). Did you have that problem with the colour you had?
I keep going back to it and giving it another go though because I love the colour so much, for me it is the perfect every day colour.
