Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

I think I've found the solution QueenC: Asos sale with an extra 10% off today - THOUSANDS (this may be a slight exaggeration) of shorts at bargain basement prices. Going to have a proper look tonight.

fooogle · 31/07/2014 09:53

I am happy with the hot weather Wink. Have been wearing denim shorts (navy or just denim), denim skirts, lots of black t shirts mostly! Quite like not having to think (indecisive!) but I know what you mean carrie Grin. Also usual scarf/jewellery additions just too hot to stick on so am a bit incomplete.

fooogle · 31/07/2014 09:55

perfect that bag is lovely... Is it silver hardware?
I'm finding my cross body bag is doing my shoulders in though Sad. A winter style fetching ?? rucksack is what I need!

ThePerfectNegroni · 31/07/2014 12:31

Foogle- I think it is silver. They have a few gorgeous ones in.

As for the rucksack, I just can't bring myself to do it. I had one in 1995 and am not doing it again!

carrie74 · 31/07/2014 12:59

Sorry people, it;'s going to rain for the rest of the summer. I've just ordered some shorts from JCrew (THANKME gets an extra 20% off, woo-hoo!).

Have ordered these in 2 sizes, but am worried they'll be too short (prefer 5"):

I know this bag has gold hardwear but do we think that is a good winter red or does it look more suitable for an autumn?

fooogle · 31/07/2014 15:48

That's nice perfect. It looks kind of burgundy? Hard to say though. Do they accept returns?
I've just gone totally the opposite and Blush bought a slightly vintagey look natural leather rucksack on day trip to Brighton... Mostly just for days out when I don't want to go sporty. Probably bad idea but my shoulders will like me...let's hope I can pull it off!

QueenCardigan · 31/07/2014 16:54

perfect looks a bit autumn red to me.
foogle I was tempted by a rucksack for practicality reasons and wanted a leather one a few months ago. But then I realised I'm just better off with my old north face one as it fits in drinks/snacks/hats/sun cream etc better than a stylish one would.
Nice shorts carrie. I'm glad in a way that dh vetoed new shorts. Means next time I need something he'll have to agree Grin and there's far more than I want for AW.

carrie74 · 31/07/2014 20:54

Haha, love your thinking QueenC.

It's a lovely bag perfect but really hard to get a feel for the colour. I have to say I find the nuances of the colours so tricky sometimes that I seem to default to black, white and navy, where I can't go wrong (until I buy a slightly off white top from Zara...). Hot pink seems to be easy too, but I do find it really hard getting the balance of something that fits, suits, right price and right colour. Oh and not too much polyester...

I'm another who remembers rucksacks last time around (I had a very fetching mini one in a white pearlised plastic Grin), so mine only comes out when travelling. It's horrible: blue and orange from Blacks. I keep meaning to replace it, but I'd replace it with something similarly sensible which is no incentive to buy at all!

ThePerfectNegroni · 01/08/2014 06:41

You are all right! It's so difficult to judge colours online. I need to find some time to go shopping. You would think that seeing as though I'm on holiday in France id have chance to look but we've not been to shops beyond a supermarket.

fooogle · 01/08/2014 07:06

Rucksack it's kinda this kind of thing. Anyway... It was a bit if a 'I have to buy it now or never' impulse! Will see. Yes, queen I probably won't use it for all the drinks and things, I've got a skater dude kind of rucksack for that! I am basically a bag lady and carry loads!

perfect, hope you find shopping chances.

fooogle · 01/08/2014 07:13

Also Grin went to clothes swap at hoc the other day and lady was talking about style things. She said certain clothes could only be worn by certain styles and may have suggested I had a bit of gamine going on. Anyone a gamine? What does it involve? I am 5'11 so thought you had to be petite for that one!

SorrelForbes · 01/08/2014 11:14

Fellow Winters I need some help!

I have a night out next Saturday (large group of girls, huge range of ages from 21 to 58) for which I was going to wear my black/white Banana Reublic Hampton trousers, a fuchsia top and heels. However, I have discovered that we're going to a smart (as smart as it gets here anyway) place for cocktails and everyone is dressing up to the max (cocktail dresses etc.)

I've had my eye on this from Reiss for ages but couldn't find it in a 12. I found one on eBay yesterday but got outbid by a £1 while in the shower (grrrr). It possibly was a bit muted anyway but hopefully would have been close enough.

So, after all that rambling. I need a dress to wear next week. Size 12 to accommodate a large chest (a 10 might work in some shops). Can be above knee, on knee or midi and must have sleeves (not capped or sleeveless) The last is non-negotiable, I do not want to wear a shrug, jacket etc. Oh yes, it has to be a in Winter colour Grin.

Any ideas?

ThePerfectNegroni · 01/08/2014 12:28

Sorrel- what sort of price range? Are you happy to buy online or does it need to be in a shop near you?

ThePerfectNegroni · 01/08/2014 12:35

This looks like it can be dressed up with a belt, strappy sandals and statement jewellery.

Not sure if the sleeves are long enough but uts beautiful and will take you well into winter. They have a few others with sleeves like this which are beautiful.

Phase Eight have [[http://www.phase-eight-fashion.com/fcp/product/phase-eight/Dresses/Amity-Bird-Dress/202649050 this too.

SorrelForbes · 01/08/2014 14:19

Happy to buy online. Budget up to £175.

SorrelForbes · 01/08/2014 14:24

I like the Oasis one but not sure about the dipped hem as I think it'll show my thigh chub! Legs are ok up to about 5" above knee then they get larger!

The Coast one is nice but too girly for me plus my best friend is already wearing it!

Not sure about Phase 8, I never see anything I like there. Don't like the print at all and the neck is too high for me.

I am impossible to buy for Blush

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 01/08/2014 14:27

Any good?

SorrelForbes · 01/08/2014 14:30

No afraid not, would be much too long and too formal and not the right shape for me (very Curvy hourglass). I need stuff that skims, nothing girly or masculine, nothing floaty or stiff. Skater dress style is a no no, too young and the waist never falls in the right place.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 01/08/2014 14:38

This one?

ThePerfectNegroni · 01/08/2014 14:39

LOVE THIS.

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 01/08/2014 14:40

Sorry, meant this one.

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 01/08/2014 14:43

I like this Jaeger dress, but not many in stock

SorrelForbes · 01/08/2014 15:43

ThePerfectNegroni

JL Warehouse - Yes, too girly and I can't do pleats, my big hips would make them stand out at 90 degrees to the floor!

& Other Stories pink dress - a possible, it looks like a hot pink to me so could work. Maybe a bit daytime?

& Other Stories green dress - a bit daytime and out of stock in a 10 and 12. Lovely colour though.

Great Plains - up there with Phase 8 as a brand that just doesn't 'grab me'? This looks like a work dress to me and the flowers look brown and cream.

I am a nightmare, I'm sorry Blush. My friends hate dress shopping with me and now refuse to go
