Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

ginger I have bone actually bought 10 years ago for my wedding. Purple on my eyes looks awful on me though even though I love the look of it.

SorrelForbes · 29/07/2014 08:27

Apparently today is National Lipstick day and Debenhams are doing £5 off any lipstick.

Stokey · 29/07/2014 09:31

I was in Jaeger yesterday ThePerfectNegroni and they had loads of bags at half price with a futher 20% off. This in cobalt was a bargain.

Dh bought me some Lisa Eldridge eye shadow for hazel eyes a couple of months ago, which are green and gold so totally not the right colours HOC wise. I have a light to dark grey set too which I do like, but don't wear eye make-up much (never in the day).

Stokey · 29/07/2014 13:45

There's some nice dark greens in the shops for AW14. I like this Zara trenchcoat. This Mango top is actually a much darker green in RL and a cardie for QueenC.

ThePerfectNegroni · 29/07/2014 16:16

Stokey- thanks for the link but the jaeger bags don't have closures, I'm not a big fan of open totes. I quite like the navy hobo but don't like the gold hard wear on it.

I like the Zara link but I'm afraid that style doesn't suit my romantic natural style. I need softer lines and tailoring at the waist, whilst still flowy/ drapey.

QueenCardigan · 29/07/2014 17:00

stokey if that matches my pine green or dark emerald swatch it's mine. Thank you.

ThePerfectNegroni · 30/07/2014 06:39

Jaeger has some beautiful items in stock in damson, including this amazing coat which unfortunately is out of my budget.

Stokey · 30/07/2014 10:22

Wow - that is a gorgeous coat - out of my price range too but maybe in the winter sales wish list!
They do good discounts at sales time and the Boutique is affordable. I quite like this short coat in the sales but only XS left, which I sometimes find a bit small for a coat if you're wearing a jumper underneath. Sorry waffle!

carrie74 · 30/07/2014 12:38

Gorgeous coat (but no need for me this winter after spending way too much on a duvet coat last year).

On the eyeshadow hunt, I too use MAC Vex, although it looks much lighter than the website photo seems to indicate. In this weather I've been wearing it with a little bit of black/plum gel eyeliner and of course the ubiquitous lipstick.

carrie74 · 30/07/2014 13:08

Actually, can I pick brains? What kind of things are people wearing to go out in these days? I've got H's 40th coming up (nothing fancy, drinks party down the local pub, but would still like to look good), then we're off to NYC in October to celebrate, plus a family lunch in September (yes, isn't he blessed?!?). I tend to buy clothes that have crossover uses, but actually, going out clothes don't tend to translate well into daytime casual or office wear really...

So, what are you all wearing to go out in at the moment?

ThePerfectNegroni · 30/07/2014 13:41

Ummm... Pass.... That would assume we actually go out. A toddler and no family living nearby means we are recluses!

carrie74 · 30/07/2014 13:51

Well yes, hence my go to going out outfit is at least 3 years old (and consists of skinnies, a sheer black blouse and a leopard print jacket - I LOVE the outfit, but it's seen quite a few outings now over the last few years...

Stokey · 30/07/2014 14:12

Hi Carrie I'm the same age as your DH (and you judging my username Grin) so have been going to a lot of 40s this year.

I bought this silk dress in April and have worn it out lots (and worn it to work) so it has proved very versatile. This green one is pretty too.

And there are a million jumpsuits in the shops if you want to do something a bit different.

But skinnies, a blouse/top and jacket also sounds good. I'm going out for dinner tomorrow night and will probably go for skinnies and new Zara jungle print jacket.

(sorry for the essay - I work off Regent St and spend far too much time shopping)

MrPop · 30/07/2014 14:14

This thread is bad for my bank balance - just bought the hush maxi, great discount.

Just been looking at atterley road and they have some good things in our colours.

Hello Stokey - you sound like you have embraced your colours, I (biasedly) think winters have the best colours!

Carrie what duvet coat did you get and would you recommend it? I am thinking I have to get one this year but the choice is mind boggling. I like the barbour arctic parka but £££

I can't advise on going out outfits either, same situation as Negroni. I like the idea of a jumpsuit though, think it is a relaxed but quite glamorous look.

Love all the style day chat - I decided not to do mine and will wait til next year but I am intrigued as to what I would be, Need to have a look at that website. I am sure I have natural in there, am always ready to run into a wood Grin

I wonder if style personality does change over time though, as I was much more into dramatic clothing when I was younger but now not so much.

Can't remember who mentioned it, but I also get red tones in my hair with the sun - and I haven't dyed my hair for over 10 years!

Stokey · 30/07/2014 14:31

Hi MrPop

I agree -we've got great colours. I feel pretty comfortable in most of them except the pinks (although have double stars in Fuschia and raspberry). I've finding it pretty easy to find things in navy, red and the greens that I like but need to branch out to the purples - I also have 2 stars in Indigo, royal purple, lobelia and damson.

My kids are little too, I spend a lot of money on babysitters!

carrie74 · 30/07/2014 14:40

Thanks both, Stokey that orange dress is beautiful! Will have a proper peruse when I'm home this evening. Never think of &Other Stories or Cos actually, not on my radar.

MrPop lovely Atterley Rd finds too. I really can't buy any more navy or blue dresses...My duver coat is the Aigle Cuckmere, but be warned, it does have real fur in the hood (although this can be removed). If you're in the market for one, now's the time to start looking - I looked early, found some at a good price but held off a month too long and prices went back up. And of course by buying it, it meant we had a very mild winter Grin. I love it though, and it got lots of admirers.

Stokey I wish I could find things I like in greens, I love green, but have been finding it really hard to find things that I want to buy...

carrie74 · 30/07/2014 14:41

Oh and yes, my big 4-0 is coming up in December...

QueenCardigan · 30/07/2014 14:46

That is a gorgeous coat perfect. I'd like a new coat this year for wearing out as my black one is 11 years old. I just need a cheap one (that looks expensive) as don't go out that much and during the day wear my barbour artic parka or north face.

carrie we don't go out a huge amount but I definitely find dressing for going out in AW easier that summer. I've got a couple of black dresses that I love with opaques but I tend to wear cropped trousers and a blouse with either flats or heels depending if we're walking or taxi-ing. I'll link some looks in a minute...

ThePerfectNegroni · 30/07/2014 14:52

Queen- did you ever get that Viv dress? How did you style it? {not wanting to sound like a stalker}

QueenCardigan · 30/07/2014 14:53

this is the sort of look I love for going out

QueenCardigan · 30/07/2014 14:55

this is one of my most recent purchases which I haven't had the opportunity to wear yet

ThePerfectNegroni · 30/07/2014 14:57

I seem to have spent an extraordinary amount if time over the last 48 hours looking for a handbag (damn having free wifi on holiday). I want a leather, very softly structured bag that can go over my shoulder, but isn't a gaping bucket of a tote or a frumpy mum bag. It needs to be bto hold a cloth nappy or two, wipes etc plus usual handbagI'm open to most winter colours except the ices, black and navy. The hard wear needs to be silver not gold. Budget £150ish. I feel like banging my head against a brick wall.

QueenCardigan · 30/07/2014 15:00

Good memory perfect. Yes, this is the viv dress wore for my 40th last November. In the end I styled it with black peeptoes that I already owned.

QueenCardigan · 30/07/2014 15:02

Where have you looked perfect? Have you looked at banana republic? Love their bags. Or radley?

QueenCardigan · 30/07/2014 15:05

too tote like?
