I foresee something similar with DD who seems to like body piercings. However, the hours spent doing pinkish highlights in her hair last night don't seem to have caused too much of a problem - you can't see them at all

Fingers crossed for DD, they have made an offer on a house and whilst there is another one they like, they prefer this one.

As someone who didn't get her ears pierced until I reached 40, you can guess my thoughts on other piercings. And I can't imagine what some of those people who have tattoos are going to look like when they are old and wrinkly - urgh. Something small and delicate maybe ok, but when I have watched tv shows and seen people with full arm tats under, eg, sleeveless wedding dresses, I have just gone "nooo", don't do it.

I agree on the tatts - when they are old and wrinkly but I think that's something else DD might want to try. DH is vehemently against piercings and tats, strangely as his DF and DBro are covered in them!

No uniform whatsoever at 6th form college and most of her friends seem to have it done. I think it looks horrible so all the parenting stuff about 'Support your child in everything she does' has gone right out the window . Loving the pink highlights, BTM. Best thing to tell her is that they look amazing, so she believes they are there!

Glad your dd has found a house, NU. Now starts the rollercoaster ride of house purchase. I agree, I think tattoos are deeply unpleasant (apologies to all crepeys who sport them!), somehow particularly on women. And the piercing could have been a hideous eyebrow one......

I leave tatts and piercings to DH. Neither of my two seem overly inclined to rush to get either - DD1 has had her ears pierced, DD2 is not sure if she wants hers done. DD1 has ventured some interest in getting her nose pierced, but Selfridges told her that they wouldn't do it until she is at least 17. DH warned against cartilege piercing and the consequences of Nose Collapsing if it is not done properly, so I think she will leave that one for a while. My cousin's 23 year old DD is covered in tattoos, but nothing she can't cover up for a job interview.

Beachy, I did exactly that and she looked at me like are you mad? and asked if I could actually see them at all! We had a good laugh about it!

Nothing wrong with expressing your opinion on a body piercing. Has she chosen a nice tiny stud? It's the snot issue that grosses me out

DP has embarked upon the path of righteousness.

So far it has turned him into a grumpy PITA whose nearest and dearest think homicidal thoughts and avoid ("I'm hungry but I don't want to go into the kitchen while Daddy is there"). Also I have requested that he sort out a pile of childcare cover (see previous 'I have had enough of being the Person In Charge') posts and he is making a pig's ear out of it (should that be pig's or pigs', do we think?) as he does not have my encyclopaedic knowledge of every feasible sixth former within a 10 mile radius. And is more averse to leaving them than I am.

A lie in until 8.45 has restored me slightly from yesterday's exhaustion, but we have to take DS out for 'an airing' soon, as he's behaving like a four-year-old who spent yesterday cooped up in cars and hospital rooms, not surprisingly. Then a pub lunch, then watching a film, then re-arranging the sitting room furniture.

DS's slightly mental behaviour is not helping DP's frame of mind, and I can't do a great deal of alleviating as semi-crippled. Annoying.

And MI - I think there is only one pig, hence "pig's".

Just got from the gym (slightly delayed by chatting with the DC's reception teacher. We were on the bikes!) to find DD and friends making flapjack as there was nothing in the fridge and I had failed to point out the cinnamon and raisin bagels in the bread bin

I am tired, grumpy and deaf in one ear. Think I need to get it syringed. Have also probably made matters worse by rooting about in it with a cotton bud (it was itchy, and ahhh, the relief!). Dh woke me this morning at 0630, saying "Your cat has pissed on the bathroom floor." Why is it always my cat when it does something unpleasant?

Beachy, I would also be most peeved if either of the dcs got any facial piercings. Dd has unfortunately got multiple ear piercings, but I didn't have a leg to stand on there, as so have I. Haven't worn any earrings in the lobe ones for years - until having the standard two re-done recently. I have always liked the one at the top of my ear, though, even though someone once told me it looks like a pig tag. Dh hates it. Have also got a tattoo, but it's more than 20 years old and entirely the fault of h1, for reasons I will not go into. I'm not a tattoo person and never have been. It's on my back where I don't have to look at it, thankfully. I was the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

BTM I've had to consider redecoration of the bathroom several times after similar hair modification escapades with dd. Glad the hair is subtle and not grounds for disciplinary action

Dd has her ears pierced after I took her to a bona fide tattoo parlour and had the ears done with a surgical needle . Cue vomming and fainting. I think it solved that little conundrum.
She has shown no further inclination for perforation.
I am the only person into office without tattooage or piercing. Even the older ladies have something hidden under their refined exteriors. I don't even have my ears done
No objection to it- just not for me.

Dh and I are at loggerheads over money. He went out yesterday and bought himself a top of the range iPhone without discussion. I am not delighted as
A he never discussed it
B we are pretty strapped
C I was havering over booking London flights because of things being tight

Standard pierced ears here and no tats - I leave them to my brother and his family who all have at least one each. Personally not keen. Stropps you will have to tell us the story when we meet and show us
