Oh how disappointing Foxy. I tried the code and it seems to be very selective - some items it reduces by 50% and others by nothing at all.

Well done on all you shopping Mig. All I have left to buy is my Secret Santa who is my brother (again) this year. He is the man who has everything and it really is a short straw to get him. I found a lovely sweater in Hackett which, naturally, is sold out in his size - unlike his shortarse sisters, he is 6'2 and XL. We've decided to get luxury getaways for both sets of parents with all brothers and sisters clubbing together except DH's contrary brother with the unpleasant wife, so I think all my shopping is done. Thanks be to God.

shopafrolic · 01/12/2013 22:10

Love it Liberty! trouble is I can only hum them (I never knew track names!). Sleep tight xx
Marsha do you have empty boxes wrapped to put under the tree once the last presents have been dished out? I always feel sad when the base of the tree is empty (but have never gone that far)

Mignonette · 01/12/2013 22:35

Good idea Grumpy. Getaways are good for those who have pretty much everything- which my Mother is but I bought her 12 place setting of slate last year so the serving slab/tray thingy will do.

We have a secret santa but my sodding MIL has asked us all to write a poem so I have been struggling to come up with anything not obscene or peevish. My first two lines-

On Christmas Day I wish I was Jewish
Because I'd have so much less to do-ish

Then the last line-

Don't give her a Diamond, Give her a Hand.

The middle bit escapes me unless it's 'You bloody old cow for expecting us to write a poem when we have enough to do!

Hope I haven't offended any busy Jewish people-I mean no harm Smile

Write a poem for Christmas ....love itGrin could start a "ridiculous Christmas traditions" threadGrin .
In France they don't do stockings, they put their shoes around the tree....not great if you have small feet. We had both ! Result!
I love those crackers that have whistles in them.....delegate a conductor and have a "musical" interlude during lunch. I might get the mini hand bell ones this year......
Mig I ordered slate place mats , coasters, runners and tea light holders last week to go on my new oak table after you'd mentioned you'd bought some. Look great. I like the whole natural product thing.

MarshaBrady · 01/12/2013 22:45

Very good Mig!

Shop, no I haven't but then again the last three years or so we've been in Aus on Christmas Day and there's usually a few straggler presents hanging around for some reason.

Drywhiteplease · 01/12/2013 22:46

these

Mignonette · 01/12/2013 22:56

Dry I bet that slate'll look great. The crackers are an amazing idea. DH would love that. We made crackers each year when kids were smaller. Bought craft packs and decorated them. We still use the now ratty stockings we made and decorated eleven years ago too.

Random post of the night - and not the right place but please indulge me. Can anyone recommend any good Christmas books for my soon to be 3yo DS? Either ones that tell the Christmas story, or ones that talk about father Christmas, North Pole, reindeer etc…..

shopafrolic · 01/12/2013 23:04

P.S. I know there are threads - but I wondered what you guys have read your children. Thanks

Mignonette · 01/12/2013 23:26

Having a think and have just texted friends with new little ones - Theres 'The Night Before Christmas' and of course Raymond Briggs 'Father Christmas' but that's a bit old for him.

Father Christmas Needs A Wee by Nicholas Allan (friend recommends)

That Pig on the Night Before Christmas -Scout Walker

Thomas The Night Before Christmas (Tank Engine book)

The Jolly Christmas Postman by Allan Ahlberg

Alfies Christmas by Shirley Hughes

Nativity Play by Mi8ck Inkpen and Nick Shutterworth (my kids adored Mick Inkpen books-all of them)

Happy birthday Foxy and dd Flowers Cake

QueenCadbury · 02/12/2013 09:01

Morning. I'm back. Did anyone miss me Grin?

Happy birthday foxy Wine Cake. Is pasha on the school run?

Will catch up properly later. Just re-ordered a gap order as today they have 40% off and last week I only got 20% off. Who knew that today was cyber Monday????

carrie74 · 02/12/2013 10:15

On Friday I called gap to get 30% off a jumper DH had bought me for Xmas (a cashmere one, so significant difference!). And now 40% today!! Got a basket full of basics for kids, but site has crashed. Argh!!! Extra 12% with Quidco too.

shopafrolic · 02/12/2013 10:27

Morning all - Happy Birthday Foxy and baby foxy.
Dry is it your too or has that been and gone - still can't think straight.

libertychick · 02/12/2013 11:06

Happy birthday Foxy and to your DD - must have been exciting giving birth on your birthday! My friend had her first child on her birthday too - she complains though that she gets forgotton!!!

I am laughing as a v stylish colleague has just burst out laughing at my outfit today and told me I look like a librarian - she asked if it was deliberate but also said it looks good on me! If I get a chance I might do another selfie, it's this H&M skirt, white shirt, navy Cos linen jumper and opaques and loafers. I think it's my dark rimmed square(ish) glasses that really create the librarian effect.

Good tip re Gap - is it only on-line? I may be passing a Gap later and there is a shirt I want but it's not on the website.

shopafrolic · 02/12/2013 11:12

Looks as though it's only online for Cyber Monday Liberty - not sure though. Everything I wanted for DH and DS isn't available in their sizes - really frustrating!

foxysocks · 02/12/2013 13:02

Thank you everyone! I am having a fab day. We did presents in bed, I unwrapped the gorgeous pashli as well as the tartan plumo scarf from DD !!! (Well done DH). Also got sheepskin slippers, cashmere gloves from DS, diptyque perfume and Charbonnal truffles. So so lucky. Had brekkie out with friends, just iced our cake ready for after school and hanging out with DH and DS in the new kitchen.

Unfortunately the weekend was marred by my laptop kaputting. Gutted. Lost three months data so need to redo all my accounts and somehow get back on track for Christmas and india without any of my spreadsheets. Am really really gutted. Also lost my calendar, god knows what I'm supposed to be doing this week. Feel v lost.

Sleepwhenidie · 02/12/2013 13:09

Happy birthday Foxy Flowers. Enjoy the rest of the day xx

libertychick · 02/12/2013 13:16

Oh Foxy what a PITA. It's such a pain having to redo work and I'd be in major trouble if I lost my calendar. Well done on all the lovely birthday presents.

Thanks again for the Gap tip off. I have bought this shirt for myself which isn't the most exciting purchase but will be useful. Just to alert you all that Banana Republic is 30% off everything so after months of stalking it I have bought my sister this red jacket she loved. It already had 25% off so with the extra 30% off today it came in at £60 - still a bit pricey but I know she'll be delighted.

foxysocks · 02/12/2013 14:01

The prob is my MacBook was so old - well, according to them! Only 6 years old... - that it doesn't wok with clouds or anything so it was a blvk box backup system that DH did periodically. By said tat in two more months they wouldn't even be able to take I in for repair as things gave moved on so far since it was made. We are working our if there's any way to get a new one, but not looking good.
