Only the best thread in S & B to talk all things Autumn.

Lougle I think Hopefully is a blue autumn, but not a soft blue. She should be along at some point. What colour lipstick did you get? Lighter colours give you more choice for the summer. My friend was the same re the consultant taking a long time to choosebetween warm and cool, she's a soft autumn.

Supa I'm pale with a heart shaped face and fairly full lips & defined Cupid's bow so I worry I will look ridiculous in a bold colour, like a pair of lips stuck on top of a body. Hence the bold colours only at home til I get used to it. I keep startling myself in the mirror.

lougle · 20/02/2014 20:59

I took the Brick Red in the end, but it is really very strong! I need to experiment with toning it down a bit I think.

I also took an apricot gloss, which is quite nice.

I was quite proud of myself today, head-to-toe autumn. I wonder if my brown tunicy jumper is a bit too soft/muted though.

Snowdown · 20/02/2014 21:39

I struggle to find a good chocolate brown, so I tend to just avoid it altogether.

Seri I thought the cinnabar too!

My consultant recommended brick red too but it was too much of a shock, so I backed away. I love red lipstick though....just not too sure my daily activities suit it.

Seri77 · 21/02/2014 06:15

Cinnabar it is then. Thank you.

ocelot41 · 21/02/2014 09:18

Ooh! Brill sale on at Ness, fellow Autumns. Just snaffled this www.ness.co.uk/coats-jackets/meme.html and its a gorgeous soft, old lime and super warm. Down from a hundred and seventy quid to fifty nine! Also got chocolate Brown pencil skirt but dithering about whether the purple one is really my purple or not...

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2014 09:53

Thank you, ocelot. Am tempted by this chestnut skirt. Is that the one you bought? Really like the teal one, but not available in my size.

Hopefully · 21/02/2014 10:24

Gorgeous coat ocelot! I think the skirt would be ok if it wasn't marled/tweed with grey, which it looks like it is in the picture. I think that pulls it from Autumn into Summer, otherwise it would probably tone reasonably well with the autumn colours.

Snow I wear bright red more or less every day. I think I am probably known at the school gates as the mad lipstick lady, but I much prefer how I look in lipstick, and really I only like bright red or bright orange, and red is fractionally less alarming!

Lougle try putting a dab of lipstick over the gloss, rather than the other way round. Not sure why but it seems to look a bit more natural if you only want a hint of colour.

In possibly the least rock'n'roll purchase of the year, I bought an apricot coloured nursing vest when Figleaves had a code last week. It's a bit Springy really, but better than the endless black and white that is usually on offer.

lougle · 21/02/2014 13:25

Thanks Hopefully - is it true that you are a 'blue' autumn? Any extra tips for me as a 'soft blue Autumn'? Travelincolour was really helpful but there is so much to absorb!

I love that coat, ocelot41

ocelot41 · 21/02/2014 16:26

Yes Toffee that's the one I bought. I found the sizing on the generous size (I am either a 10 or a 12 and the 10 fits great). Really high quality material, v flattering on ( they really need to get better photos taken!) And fully lined. And reasonable price!

Streets better cut than the eighty quid pencil skirt I just returned to Boden. Dead impressed - hadn't come across Ness before but read about them on another thread. I think I have become a bit of a Ness fan...I had been looking to get out of my jeans rut and those skirts will dress up or down with my trusty Brown boots.....Good luck!

Hopefully · 21/02/2014 16:29

Yes, I'm a (dark) Blue Autumn Lougle. It basically means I'm at the less warm end of the Autumn palette (my skintone is scarcely warm at all). The 'soft blue' bit for you means it's a little difference (if you want to think of it in terms of which season you are 'closest' to, you are closer to Summer, I am closer to Winter. Main advice would be don't get too hung up on which type of autumn you are! It's very easy to forget that actually the entire palette is still pretty good on you, it's just that you are amazing in the slightly less warm, less intense autumn colours.

ocelot41 · 21/02/2014 16:55

By the way, has anyone got any of the,HoC silk scarves? They are a bit pricy - are they worth it? I was eyeing up the teal one (which is currently out of stock) and the red and chocolate one.

I don't look good with strong contrasts next to my face and wasn't sure if they would look too busy or would help me pull together different colours together....Views?

Hopefully · 21/02/2014 16:59

I really like them, but they don't suit my personal style. The colours of the autumn one are so gorgeous that I did try to make it work! There isn't too much contrast within the scarf.

lougle · 21/02/2014 17:10

Thanks, Hopefully - now you've said that, it's exactly what travelincolour said, but it's hard to remember everything that you're hearing. Bad student Grin

Hopefully · 21/02/2014 17:15

It can be a surprising amount of information to take in on the day! Feel free to post here if you have random little questions that don't quite warrant a whole email to Travel (although she will be more than happy to confirm things for you too, I know).

ocelot41 · 21/02/2014 17:38

Thanks Hopefully [goes off to ponder if purple skirt has grey flecks in it and if is scarfy type....]. The online tests had me down as a 'Dramatic-Creative' don't know if that is a yes or no....Is it possible to be a clueless Dramatic-Creative I ask myself?....

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2014 19:18

Horribly tempted by the brown skirt and cords linked to earlier .

Emo76 · 21/02/2014 20:21

Hello all. I am starting to think about spring clothes and wondered if anyone had seen any great cream blouses around? And if anyone hasn't seen, Kettlewell are doing free post and packaging now and returns. I found their service excellent on a return recently.

Seri77 · 21/02/2014 21:33

I've posted something less than profound on the anti colour thread. Ah well. I'm always amazed at how worked up people get about things and how annoyed they can be when people think or do differently to how they think things should be.

I could do with some cream tops too. I'm not sure having white tops for so long that they're no longer really white counts.

Hopefully · 22/02/2014 07:36

Emo I have seen cream shirts in Pure, but don't know if they still have them. Quite like this damsel in a dress one.

lougle · 22/02/2014 08:32

I've ordered the petrol cords - my first purchase!

supadupapupascupa · 22/02/2014 10:06

can someone relink the cords please? i can't find them....

supadupapupascupa · 22/02/2014 10:08

i found the most amazing blog yesterday. you all NEED to read it! especially if you've just had your colours done and need help establishing a wardrobe.... HERE

ToffeeWhirl · 22/02/2014 10:08

Petrol cords.

Hopefully · 22/02/2014 10:13

I like Putting me together - not really the same style as me, but she really talks through the process of having a mix n match wardrobe, great for getting into having a capsule wardrobe if you are a die hard full-outfit-buyer.

I am still suffering a dearth of plain v necks in merino/cashmere/pure wool. Really struggling to find any, never mind ones in colours I like!

ToffeeWhirl · 22/02/2014 10:14

Thanks for that blog link, supa. Am reading it now...
