Only the best thread in S & B to talk all things Autumn.

Sounds like it's near enough indeed, I never expect things to match exactly, just fit with the swatches. It's difficult finding cut, length and colour to be perfect. Let us know how you get on :)

ToffeeWhirl · 16/01/2014 10:38

House of Fraser have refunded the money for the purple dress I returned - but they've given me an e-voucher. So now I shall just have to buy another dress, won't I? Wink

Hello! this thread's gone a bit quiet so I thought I'd pop in and see how you're all doing.

I've not bought much recently (so bored with being pregnant and unable to fit into anything), but I did treat myself to a new pair of 'sensible' boots - these timberland ones.

ToffeeWhirl · 20/01/2014 14:21

Those are gorgeous and don't look 'sensible' at all, Hopefully.

Haven't bought any new clothes, although I did swap an unwanted gift for a teal tee shirt. I find I'm sticking to the safe colours, like teal, chestnut brown and forest green, because I'm never quite sure if I have a good enough match for the others. For example, I tried on a coral tee shirt in White Stuff at the weekend, but couldn't decide if it matched my palette or not, so decided not to buy it.

Have saved half the cost of the style day, thanks to a recent birthday, but think I'll need to save some money for the inevitable shopping splurge that will follow afterwards.

Hopefully · 20/01/2014 15:11

Toffee they're very sensible for me!

With coral, the chances are that unless it's seriously neon (which would make it emphatically spring), it will work on you - it's basically a Spring/Autumn crossover colour, and doesn't fall into the cool seasons at all as it's too peachy.

I bought this dress in the sale recently as it's somewhere between a darker lizard grey and a Winter Mole, but I can't quite make up my mind about it, since I can't try it on!

Snowdown · 20/01/2014 17:26

Love the Joseph dress! Have just bought t shirt and this very non autumn white maxi skirt which is a great shape for me and will work with an Autumn top and some bright flats.

ToffeeWhirl · 20/01/2014 18:51

Hmm, the coral tee-shirt was one, Hopefully, but it looked brighter (possibly more neon) in the shop than it does on screen. I was looking a bit pale that day and it didn't seem to help, which is why I went for the safe teal option.

I love that grey dress! Didn't know we could wear grey, but maybe it's just not one of my best colours and so hasn't been given any stars.

Snowdon - lovely top and skirt. The top looks mustard, but it says that's it's lime. Is it green or yellow in RL?

Snowdown · 20/01/2014 18:59

Toffee I can't get the link to work.
The jigsaw top is definitely lime green. It'll be great for the summer, if we get one!

Hopefully · 20/01/2014 19:35

Toffee our grey is called Lizard grey, which is a greenish/khaki toned grey. Some blue autumns can get away with something slightly darker, but it still needs to have that murkiness, iykwim.

Emo76 · 20/01/2014 21:55

Anyone seen any great scarves, kingfisher and chocolate coloured? On the hunt!

ToffeeWhirl · 20/01/2014 23:30

Sorry, I messed that link up. Coral tee-shirt here. Spring/Autumn?

Thanks, Hopefully. I've found it on my list. It's only an accent colour for me (25%), so not my best colour. That dress is lovely though.

Snowdown · 21/01/2014 06:29

I got a kingfisher scarf in uniqlo - it's cashmere, reduced to £19.90 but it's fairly slight of itself, still it's the right colour and it's soft. They might do a bigger one in a blend.

jennimoo · 21/01/2014 06:30

I still can't see your tshirt toffee!

Lizard grey is one of my ** colours and I really like it, I plan to find some wool and knit a woolly scarf in it for next winter.

I'm still on the hunt for some decent leggings in an autumn colour. Thought if splash out on boden but they do black, grey, navy or... grey!

Hopefully · 21/01/2014 06:50

Jennimoo I love lizard grey, I think it's a really good less-obviously autumn colour. Leggings are a nightmare in autumn colours though - I usually go for Ketlewell when not pregnant as the quality is brilliant (I have a pair that are literally five years old and not remotely see through). I am currently sporting more or less see through maternity navy ones from Next in desperation... Hmm

jennimoo · 21/01/2014 07:11

Thanks hopefully! It was teal I fancied so may well order those. White stuff had some but not my size, and probably not as good quality!

Whitecat · 21/01/2014 08:21

The Joseph dress is lovely. Lizard grey is such a toughy to find. I found a gingerbread skirt in FCUK. Great with chunky brown boots. Also a brick red cowl 3/4 sleeve top in Monsoon sale. Sorry can't do two links on phone.

Whitecat · 21/01/2014 08:24

gingerbread skirt The greeny is good too.

jennimoo · 21/01/2014 08:27

I love that FC skirt, probably a bit short for me though :(

Anyone tried the kettlewell jersey skirts? Quite fancy getting one of those with my leggings...

ToffeeWhirl · 21/01/2014 09:55

jennimoo - I checked the link in the preview Confused, but I can see it's not working now. Will try one last time and if this doesn't work, I give up: coral tee shirt. (Link definitely works in preview).

Whitecat - I have a voucher for Monsoon, but couldn't find anything I liked there Sad. I expect the red cowl top is all sold out now.

Whitecat · 21/01/2014 10:43

Jenimoo the FC skirt is knee length on me and I'm 5'9"

Toffee There were loads in store so there will probably to plenty online.

This green scarf with amber polka dots just dropped through my letterbox and it's silky soft and warm. Total surprise with its £2.99 price tag. Grin

jennimoo · 21/01/2014 10:51

I will resist the skirt as probably wouldn't get much wear at the mo, but I'm buying that scarf now! I have credit on my PayPal from selling all my maternity clothes so totally justified ;)

Whitecat · 21/01/2014 10:59

It is a wisp of delight and cheered my day.

Hopefully · 21/01/2014 12:12

jennimoo the kettlewell skirts are great quality. The a-line ones aren't exactly the most modern design the world has ever seen, but they are useful. There are a few variations on jersey pencil skirts that I quite like.

whitecat I am Grin at wisp of delight.

jennimoo · 23/01/2014 06:33

Just seen these dusky pink trousers. Not sure about them but an unusual colour, do you think it's an autumn colour?

Hopefully · 23/01/2014 06:54

Hmm, they're probably strictly Summer, but that soft autumn rosewood is all but a summer colour, so they would probably work with a lot of autumn stuff. Hard to say for definite.
