Eek! Scared re: geranium red now...

ToffeeWhirl · 02/12/2013 19:24

Yep, I'm afraid it is quite scary. You'll need sunglasses. DH loved it when I came out of the session, but it had either faded or I was wearing a different lipstick.

Mind you, just because it looks a bit bright on me, doesn't mean it will on you.

I thought all the lipsticks in the HOC Autumn range we meant to suit us... Confused.

charitygirl · 02/12/2013 21:17

Well, it probably does suit you. A lippy can look amazing on you but still make you feel like a pranny! With very bright ones, I sometimes sort of blot it on with my finger so it's a bit less 40s, and a bit more natural. I also think the HoC lipsticks are very highly pigmented so less might be more. Hope they come tomorrow - am even more terrified of the copper!

ToffeeWhirl · 02/12/2013 23:34

Hmm, not sure it does suit me, charity. I suppose I only applied a little bit on the end of a brush in the colour analysis session, whereas today I applied it with the lipstick itself. I'll try your idea of blotting it on with a finger.

Will be interested to see what you think of your copper lippy.

I am now satisfying my urge to purchase a new wardrobe by saving items in my wishlist on the Esprit website. It does feel similar to actually buying them.

Hopefully · 04/12/2013 08:38

I wear geranium red as my everyday lipstick! Occasionally calm it down a bit and go for 410 Copper, but that always feels really sensible when i'm used to wearing bright red every day. I also quite often wear one that we have discontinued that is more or less fluorescent orange. I promise it does suit you, it's just an enormous shock to see yourself in a very bright lipstick, and all you can see is your lips. Someone who didn't know you wouldn't be staring at your lips, they'd be thinking how good you look. It's people who have a mental image of you looking one way who will take a few days to get their heads round it, as it's a new (better) mental picture for them to absorb.

It's absolutely fine to blot lipstick down if you're not comfortable with it though, better to get a bit of the right colour on than none at all, and it can make the shift to wearing lipstick less alarming. In summer when I want to tone things down a bit I quite often apply a smudge of lip gloss (not lip balm, as it rubs straight off) and apply lipstick over that - makes it more translucent.

Hopefully · 04/12/2013 08:41

Oh, and I am returning the indecent ASOS dress. It is nice, but not sure it's special enough to keep (although slightly hard to tell with humpty dumpty tummy). I could alter it to make the cleavage more sensible, but just don't think I love it enough. Never mind, £40 saved!

Whitecat · 04/12/2013 10:06

My moss green dress turned up. It's lovely and I'm pleased I took your collective advice to get it.

I bought HOC 5 Rust at my analysis and started off applying lightly - now it goes on thickly. I'm tempted by the Geranium and will probably start off lightly with that one too.

ToffeeWhirl · 04/12/2013 10:41

Thanks for the advice and encouragement, Hopefully. I wore Geranium Red this morning, but I smeared it on lightly with a finger, then put clear lip gloss on top. When I was chatting with a couple of mums outside, after the school run, I suddenly became aware that I could see their skin really clearly and then I worried that my lips were dazzling them (not in a good way!), but they didn't say anything (or were too polite).

Have inspected myself since arriving home and I do like the warmth of the new blusher and lipstick, but I just need to go carefully with both.

Shame about the ASOS dress, Hopefully, but at least you can save that money for something better. I must remember to send back the purple dress I bought impulsively.

White - glad your green dress is so lovely. Interesting to hear that you started lightly with your new lipstick too.

I wonder if HOC clients are recognisable by their bright lipsticks...

Hoping my Esprit order comes today, as it contains three new tee shirts in my Autumn colours .

Hopefully · 04/12/2013 17:39

Have just had to send back size 14 maternity jegging things from H&M and order a 16. Give that I am not even a stone heavier than pre-preg weight at which I was a small 12, I am praying this is just crazy H&M sizing! Persevering because they're a lovely dark teal/petrol colour.

charitygirl · 04/12/2013 21:56

Ah I love my new lipsticks! Think wearing more autumnal lippies since my analysis had warmed me up for the real deal, and the formulation does feel nice. Looking forward to wearing geranium tomorrow. Don't be scared toffee.

Don't pay any attention to maternity sizing hopefully - bears no resemblance to normality.

evelynj · 04/12/2013 22:21

H&m sizing is bonkers-like gap I think they have tiny sized bottoms & big tops.

Glad you like the lippy charity. I'm going to have to order my lipstick off the hoc site as haven't heard back from my consultant & want them by Christmas. Will defo go for geranium-is rust the second needed do we think? There's a mocha in the sale section which I feel I should order too, (and then definitely really stop spending money).

Does anyone know where I would find my client code for 30% off. Will have to have a better rummage through all my guff.

Just popped to my friend's who bought this & it's really nice!

evelynj · 04/12/2013 22:40

Oh, some nice gok at sainsburys stuff-has anyone seen any of the purple stuff IRL? If anyone does, please can you let us know if it's a 'good' purple?! Don't want to go miles out of the way to a big sainsbury if it isn't, Ta :)

ToffeeWhirl · 05/12/2013 00:14

charity - glad you love your new lipsticks Smile. I wore the geranium all day today and am getting used to it (still toning it down though).

evelyn - have you looked at the back of your white HoC book, the one with the ratings in? That's where my client code is and it's simply my consultant's surname.

My Esprit order arrived late this afternoon Grin. I am quite fascinated by the way the three coloured tee shirts look right together and with my new kingfisher scarf. I am looking forward to building a wardrobe where everything matches at last.

Am being taunted by Esprit adverts every time I log on, flaunting more tops in my new colours. It's very frustrating, but I am resisting.

jennimoo · 05/12/2013 07:15

I think my codes just the surname too.

I love those gok things. I doubt the purples right but tempted to take a look although it's a mission with a baby!

Anyone going near sainsburys today and fancy checking out the purple? ;)

ToffeeWhirl · 05/12/2013 10:50

Today I am wearing my new chestnut-brown tee shirt with Geranium Red lipstick .

I don't quite understand the rating system though. Chestnut brown is one of my two-star colours for 100% single block of colour, but it doesn't get any stars or ticks for anything else. I don't understand why not, as it seems to me it will suit me just as well as a tee shirt, coat, scarf, pair of trousers, etc. Confused.

ToffeeWhirl · 05/12/2013 10:51

Sorry, jennimoo, no Sainsburys near me.

ToffeeWhirl · 05/12/2013 10:59

Hmm, just realised my H&M order is two days late now.

ToffeeWhirl · 05/12/2013 13:13

Oooh, H&M order just arrived: a petrol blue top and a beige vest. Grand total: 12.99 (because I found a discount code on MN).

The colour of the top is ok, but it's a bit shapeless. Never mind, am not complaining for that price.

Whitecat · 05/12/2013 22:48

Toffee I think we don't have any other marks in the other columns because you can't get better than . If you look stunning at 100% you're going to look great with that colour as a top a skirt or a hat. Hopefully will explain I'm sure.

ToffeeWhirl · 06/12/2013 00:05

Oh, I see, White. Hadn't thought of it like that (doh!).

evelynj · 06/12/2013 09:22

Yip, what toffee said re **. My sainsburys is too little for exciting gok stuff.

Thanks-found the code & ordered the geranium, rust & a mocha lipstick (£2.50 in sale).

Also toffee, if you know & like esprit colours, (I really rate their stuff), have a look on eBay-lots of new stuff for less than £10-lovely jumpers with fine knit. The trouble with all this buying (apart from the lack of funds), is that my dressing room is a tip that I have to go tidy soon!

Off to wrap some presents & plan to wear my h&m Christmas jumper at manning a charity bookstall tomorrow! woo hoo!

ToffeeWhirl · 06/12/2013 09:51

Oh, thanks for that tip on Esprit stuff on ebay, evelynj. I really need jumpers or cardis in my new colours, but can't afford to spend £25+ on their website.

Hopefully · 06/12/2013 13:17

Toffee what whitecat said - if you get * at 100%, you also get * at 75, 50 and 25%.

I am sporting my tartan leggings today. When I put them on this morning and pulled them up over my bump and before I put a top on, I properly looked like humpty dumpty Grin.

charitygirl · 06/12/2013 14:27

evelyn - oh let me know what you think of the mocha. I also ordered it in the sale for 2.50, and I look completely awful. Reminded me of how I looked in those very cool-toned berry lipsticks (currently enjoying a revival bleurgh) which I wore a lot as a 90s teen (and which my friends and I used to call 'make you look dead' lipstick). Perhaps it's not one for blonde blue eyed autumns.

I also ordered the 'blue autumn' in the sale - another disaster and honestly can't imagine hw any autumn could suit something so cool, but maybe humpty hopefully could explain

Hopefully · 06/12/2013 14:33

What number is the blue autumn Charity? I'm trying to remember if I've ever tried it. I don't wear any browny toned lipsticks, just can't get on with them. I occasionally put on 648/653 (653 is a beautiful one for darker autumns) as I can see objectively that they look good on me, but I just feel wrong not in red or orange!

Had the trickiest client EVER yesterday - thought she was going to be a blue autumn but she was a burnished winter (basically the cool version - just the other side of the warm/cool line). Took me aaaaaages to analyse her.
