Only the best thread in S & B to talk all things Autumn.

You have some gorgeous items there, sotired Envy. Am very tempted to order the teal chiffon blouse in particular. Oh dear, this thread is dangerous.

mummybare · 28/11/2013 08:51

I have that teal blouse - the colour is gorgeous! bad influence

I am tempted by the red evening top as well...

sweetmelody · 28/11/2013 12:20

on the subject of party dresses, I really love this one but only comes in black and hot pink. Anyone seen anything similar in a better colour???

sotiredfornow · 28/11/2013 13:54

I've just bought a slinky shirt dress from Oasis in the most amazing teal/petrol blue colour. Not on web site.

I also tried on a v-neck dress with lace across the back and between the v in a forest green. I'm going to have to go back for it. I think it would work for a wedding I have to go for. Again, not on web site. Now I just need a 20% discount to justify this purchase!

OK, somebody please stop me now. I thought having your colours done was supposed to limit your shopping?! All I've done is shop since!!

ToffeeWhirl · 28/11/2013 14:59

sotired - it certainly hasn't limited my shopping, but I am finding that I nip round the shops faster. I have just bought this shirt from White Stuff. It really does look fabulous on and I'm so happy with it. It is now hanging all alone on the righthand-side of my wardrobe, waiting to be joined by more of the Autumn palette.

I had to rein myself in because there were several other items I could have bought there. I almost bought a teal dress (not on website), but it had a lot of white patterning on it and I wasn't sure about it. It was a lovely shape though and did a good job of hiding my stomach Grin.

Whitecat · 28/11/2013 18:14

I've got my beady eye on this dress. Moss is one of my ** colours. I love the style and the length looks good for me but will the black beading neutralise the moss goodness? I can't decide. Can I have your thoughts please?

HoC Autumns 2 - the marvelousness continues......
ToffeeWhirl · 28/11/2013 18:57

That looks lovely, White. I don't think the black beading will neutralise the moss because most of the green colouring is near your face.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 28/11/2013 19:54

That's lovely white! I keep buying or nearly buying things just because they're the right colours, when I don't even like them.

Whitecat · 28/11/2013 19:59

That's how I was rationalising it Toffee. Might as well go for it.

evelynj · 28/11/2013 20:22

Whitecat-that's lovely. Also like all those things you've listed sotired. I think it's hard to resist anything suitable now as there's a feeling to grab it as it's made for us!

My fave purchase to date is actually new watch-, Sitting here admiring it so thought I'd share-the battery died in my good watch, (a Cartier gift & its gold/brown), knew it would take ages to replace the battery, so wanted something for everyday that still fits the autumn colours. I ended up with this

www.amazon.co.uk/DKNY-Womens-Park-Avenue-Hand/dp/B005I4VT62/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1385667095&sr=8-2&keywords=Dkny+brown+rose+gold+watch

I totally love it & got it from eBay for £45-ex display model. Gold necklace & earrings on my Christmas wishlist!

ToffeeWhirl · 29/11/2013 12:30

That's a bargain, evelynj! I'm impressed that you are now even buying your watch in Autumn colours!

I bought three cheap tee-shirts from Esprit last night: brown, teal and green. It was difficult to be sure of the shades, so I may have to return one or two if they're not quite right. I'm dying to buy a whole new wardrobe, but have spent enough already and need to stop now. I spend most of my daily life in jeans and tee shirts, so it makes sense to get those first.

I'm going to start saving for the style day next. Initially, I assumed that I wouldn't bother with that, but I'm hooked now. Has anyone else done the style or make up days?

Whitecat · 29/11/2013 12:52

evelyn great colour combo. I've noticed lots of old/rose gold watches in the shops, I really like them.
I had a tshirt buying frenzy as soon as I had my colours done too. Bought cheap and cheerful and it made an immediate difference. Now I'm trying to buy things to last.

evelynj · 29/11/2013 21:00

I've done the style day-did it all together with the colours. Absolutely loved it all! Probably better to have then spaced out. My consultant did a mini makeover thing but I found the lipsticks to be the best thing. Waiting to order a couple. I highly recommend bourjois healthy mix cream blush no 2, I look far better with it than my other pinker Bobbi brown & mac ones.

There's an older thread detailing autumn make up recommendations too-I've bought a few lippies off eBay from it-got a nice cinnamon revlon vital radiance that was £1.50 odd & free p&p.also rimmel Kate moss no.19 is a really good one for me

I've got a couple of nice esprit bits & a lovely teal jackpot cardigan that arrived today, (eBay bargain-think there's only xS & xl tho)

I'm totally hooked too. Wish there was more HoC activities!

evelynj · 29/11/2013 21:55

Oh, and they had accessorize long leather gloves in tk Maxx today in tan brown with caramel/beigey border same as these for £3.99! Bargain-I bought both pairs-think they may have been priced wrong! One for me, one for my secret Santa.

ToffeeWhirl · 30/11/2013 12:02

Wore my new teal-coloured shirt out last night and had a compliment: "That colour looks good on you." Grin

It's annoying that I have to wear it with a navy cardigan and coat that doesn't match, but I can't afford to replace everything all at once.

Received the purple dress I ordered, but I'll have to send it back. It's a definite purple, whereas the Autumn purple seems to be more of a bluey purple, at least to my eyes.

Can't wait for the rest of the new tee shirts to arrive! This is so much fun Grin.

ToffeeWhirl · 30/11/2013 12:05

evelyn - good to know that you enjoyed the style day too. I agree with you about the lipsticks - really good colours. The consultant's lipstick lasted all day and I asked her if she'd used Lipcote, but she said no, they just lasted well.

I really like Esprit stuff, but have stuck to the tee shirts for the moment as everything else is too pricey. The dresses are a bit too young for me, on the whole too Sad.

White - good to know the cheap tops in your colours made an immediate difference. That's what I'm hoping.

Hopefully · 01/12/2013 16:45

Toffee if you're struggling with purple, I always find that thinking of the Autumn purple as a real Cadbury's wrapper purple helps - you don't want it to be lighter and brighter than that, or darker and cooler.

Evelyn a lot of consultants do coffee mornings and fashion updates (basically interpreting the newest catwalk looks for your clothing personality). I do fashion updates twice a year and a coffee morning every month or 6 weeks, so there's always something new you can do! Sometimes I tie in an accessorising class with a coffee morning.

Whitecat that dress looks fab. I would only worry about bad colours being in a print/accent if the wrong colours make up more than about 30-40% of the print, iykwim. Or if they're all right up near your face.

I am looking for some winter boots, really casual, that I can wear with everything. Preferably biker style. Budget up to £150. Current frontrunners are these but really I know pull on ones would be more sensible, and more of a change from my Doc Martens (mine are brown).

charitygirl · 01/12/2013 19:18

So I'm sending back another THREE Asos dresses because they're just nothing special. This was the best of a bad bunch tho

www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Clean-Midi-Dress-With-Kimono-Sleeve/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3144557&cid=8799&Rf981=3679&Rf-400=53&Rf-200=7&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=204&sort=-1&clr=Orange

Can't take any more ASOS disappointment so I've ordered the Boden Claudia dress in teal that I tried on a few weeks ago. It is not going to blow anyone away but I have to say its incredibly flattering, expensive looking, and cosy. The photo is horrendous though. You'll have to take my word for it...

www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/Smart-Day-Dresses/WH524/Womens-Claudia-Dress.html

And now I am NOT going to buy anything until the 28th of December, when I'll hit up Westfields.

charitygirl · 01/12/2013 19:33

Oh and I ordered 2 HoC lipsticks - two that my consultant recommended. Geranium Red and Copper (which I remember finding terrifying on). Anyone got these?

ToffeeWhirl · 01/12/2013 20:44

charity - I have ordered the Geranium Red too. It was the one that looked best on me according to everyone else and my DH. Am quite looking forward to wearing a bolder colour!

Shame about the Asos dresses, but that teal dress looks good and you are selling it to me with your 'flattering, expensive looking and cosy' description Grin. My HOC consultant suggested this dress for me. Have to rein in the spending now though Sad.

Hopefully - thanks for that advice on the purple. I will now have to buy myself a large bar of some Cadbury's chocolate to study the wrapper. I am learning to recognise warm versus cool shades, which is a start, and I'm pretty sure the purple dress I have is a 'cool' shade. I wish my HOC consultant was like a genie that I could summon up for advice whenever I was uncertain.

I like those boots, by the way.

evelynj · 01/12/2013 20:46

Charity-I think that dress is fab if it looks good on-plain enough that you can change the whole look with bag, shoes & jewellry & classic enough to always be wearable. I'm waiting to order geranium & brick lipsticks. The only one I have is 347-flamingo pink, (I was convinced I was going to be a spring so had been wearing pinky lipsticks & this felt closer to what I was used to I think!)

Let us know how you find them-I'm going to have a look for a maybelline 24hr lippy in a good colour-anyone know of one?

I bought some £8 cotton pj bottoms in asda which feel lovely but black background with brown & goldy bird. Closest thing I've found though! Also got a purple long sleeve top in gap with gold buttons.

jennimoo · 02/12/2013 06:38

Any luck with the superstay lipstick Evelyn? I bought the gloss version in cor and the product seems great but although the picture looks corally it's a bit dark and red for me as I'm not used to wearing any lip colour...

ToffeeWhirl · 02/12/2013 13:35

Just received my order from HOC. The Kettlewell kingfisher scarf is lovely, but the Geranium Red lipstick is shockingly bright. I have had to tone it down with a differently coloured lip gloss. I could wear it out in the evening, but I certainly wouldn't wear it during the day.

evelynj · 02/12/2013 14:36

I've just bought the fire coral (£5 from eBay), quite bright. On 3 for 2 in superdrug but didn't want 3. Liked the infinite coral & there's a 10 hour lipstick called lasting chestnut that I liked too.

Waiting for my HoC consultant to come back to me re brick/geranium lippy.

There are a few autumnal esprit/jackpot bits on eBay at the mo but only some sizes.
