A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.

Meant to say how surprised I was the other day in M&S to see the branded beauty ranges they stock now here including Nuxe and Ren. Have they done this for years and I never knew?

Topazandpearl · 18/09/2013 21:39

Get well One, hope you are being well looked after.
Great shopping Marsha.
Well, it is definitely winter now the black opaques are back on!!
I have bought some soft grey tights in M&S and am on the lookout for other colours too.

Decameron · 18/09/2013 21:46

One, hope you make a speedy recovery.

The rudest sales assistants I ever encountered were Louis Vuitton in Bond St, I left and bought the bag I wanted in Selfridges instead. I emailed to tell them what I thought, the reply back was pretty much, bof, tant pis, who cares! Grin

OneLittleLady · 18/09/2013 21:48

I hate it when sales assistants are rude to me when I ask them to help me. I'm tiny height wise so often have ask for assistants to get things that I can't reach and they are so huffy about it. They complain but it's not like they'd lend me a ladder is it?!?!

shopafrolic · 18/09/2013 21:49

Prada in Milan for my rudest service ever. No prices anywhere, and staff who looked at you as though you shouldn't even be in their shop......

Ooh one your post made me wince. Hope you're ok.

OneLittleLady · 18/09/2013 21:53

I'm good QueenC dosed up to the eyeballs on painkillers Grin My sisters been round this afternoon/evening to help me out which is why I wasn't around earlier. DP's got a couple of days off when he gets back from his work excursion so he will be helping me with what I need so I am just taking it easy and enjoying being looked after Grin

BrandyAlexander · 18/09/2013 21:59

I did a presentation today with my friend/colleague. I wore damsel in a dress Alexander dress with matching jacket, tights (15 dernier) and Russell & Bromley pumps. She wore skirt suit, low button shirt, no tights and strappy heels! She looked gorgeous as usual but I was Shockat the no tights and strappy heels as I thought it was a bit nippy! (To finish outfit off for LibertyGrin bling was Tiffany studs, pendant, raindance ring and the tennis bracelet I wore to July MU).

I am having wardrobe dilemmas at the moment. I am flying to the US for 2 days on Sunday. I am trying to work out whether I can do it with a carry on.Hmm also what do I take?

When I get back I have a black tie do. Trying to work out whether to wear a ball gown or cocktail dress? Gah!

BrandyAlexander · 18/09/2013 22:06

I have a non fashion question. Dd has just got her first invite to a birthday party since starting school. Shes excited and i am for her too. At your school, is there an acceptable amount to spend where you are known as neither miserly nor rich?Grin When she was at preschool I tended to spend £10 to £15 per present which was what roughly everyone else spent. Is that about right for school? Thanks

QueenCadbury · 18/09/2013 22:11

I tend to spend £5 when it's just a random person in the class and £10-15 on best friends only. They get invited to most people's parties so if you're in state school expect about 30 parties this year!! I stock up on stuff in sales/offers and keep a box under the bed with cards so that I always have something available. Craft stuff always seems to be popular.

santamarianovella · 18/09/2013 22:23

novice 15-20 here,
carry on only works if you are wearing casual wear and flats, think it will be hard in your job .

BrandyAlexander · 18/09/2013 22:39

Thank you QueenC and Santa! Well £10 to £15 is in the middle of both of you. The party circuit started in earnest last year with pre-school. I usually let dd choose the present so the ladies in the toy shop know us well. Sigh. There are 20 in her class (private).

Santa, I fear you're right. I am doing a talk to an audience of almost 1,000 and want to look my best. I was contemplating carry on luggage because I want to rush off the plane. Hmmm. Thanks. Proper luggage it is then.

Decameron · 18/09/2013 22:40

I spend £10, more if DD1 is friends with the child.

libertychick · 18/09/2013 23:01

V late night for me - only home an hour ago.

Marsha what a fantastic haul!!! If it was me I be sitting in bed now with the boots on, everything else within easy reach for strokes and sniffs!!! Hope you can find links to the knits...the Marant coat/jacket is so lovely and the boots are amazing. I have been eyeing up the grey version of the Acne scarf on NaP....

Novice thanks for the complete outfit details!!! These things are important Grin. Shock at your friend being bare legged - brave woman.

Welcome back justasecond Smile

Glad to hear all went well one.
Topaz has your DD started uni this week? Love the whistles coat you got her.

bloomingheather · 18/09/2013 23:48

Hi everyone! I love the Lanvin boots Marsha - good shopping!
Shop I was delighted to see the branded beauty things in M&S - I think it's relatively new. I saw these eye gel patches recommended by Sali Hughes (I think) in the Guardian magazine a few weeks ago and am going to try them. Just had a look at the reviews online and they are mixed but I think I'll give them a go anyway.

squinney · 19/09/2013 07:06

marsha welldone! I love every item :)
We miss you too, have fun xxxxxx

LinusDKD · 19/09/2013 07:24

Morning!

The worst customer service I've ever seen was not towards me but towards DM in the Hermès shop in Antwerp.

She had ordered a Birkin and went in to enquire if they had received it yet. Their reply was so snooty and condescending (to a customer who had already paid £££££) that DH, who witnessed all this, swore he would never buy me anything from Hermès. Sad

The brand did redeem themselves slightly in his eyes when the Bond Street store sales assistant was very friendly and helpful when DM bought a watch there so now they are 'barred' for 10 years only. This was about 7 years ago so I have another 3 years to wait. Wink

This morning my nails look ok but some of them are a bit smudged, but that's to be expected from a super clumsy person like me.

The colour is one that QueenC pinned a while back: Essie No More Film, a lovely dark blue.

Today I'm wearing some navy Hudson skinnies, White Asos tee and my navy Boden crochet jacket. I could do with a red scarf to inject some colour but I have yet to find one I like.

Annianni · 19/09/2013 07:45

I spend about £10 on gifts.

HoF has 20% off denim online, today only.

I'm off shopping today with Ds2, not been out much this week due to the vile weather we've had.

Has anyone tried the Gap cords this season?
I think I want a new grey tee too.

shopafrolic · 19/09/2013 08:23

Aaawww waves to Squinney :)
Linus to stop smudging when painting at night I do base coat and one layer of nail varnish. Then 2nd layer and quick dry top coat the next AM.
Bad day fashion wise today. Rosemunde vest, MNV orange sweater, 7FAM boyfriendalikes and tan Spirals. The lace and the sweater don't work but I'm too cold to care. Off for a facial and massage while DS at nursery - naughty but nice!
