HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

OP posts:

I bought this a few weeks ago. Goes well with my winter coat but it hasn't quite been cold enough to wear it yet, thank goodness.

Jemster · 13/10/2013 20:20

What is your coat like Rockmummy? I am still in need of one but haven't seen many that aren't black or grey!

RockMummy · 13/10/2013 20:53

It's M&S, very dark green. Bought it back in August!! Unfortunately they don't seem to have it on the website any more so I'm not able to link to it.
The military one on their website looks nice though. Coats in our colours are very hard to find these days.

charitygirl · 13/10/2013 21:01

What are you linking to rockmummy? Can't see any links in yr post.

GeorginaWorsley · 13/10/2013 21:52

I think I look better in the blue and green autumn colours, plus chocolate.
I like the russets but struggle to find them and always feel a bit dull tbh.
I dud buy scarf from School Gate Style blog in russets and browns and plan on wearing that with cream or ivory jumpers and tops to introduce the reds into my outfits.

MotherOfSoupDragon · 13/10/2013 22:25

I want to wear my new olive green top to work tomorrow. What would you wear it with? I only have black or grey skirts and trousers and grey or brown or cream cardi? The top is sleeveless and the office cold, so definitely need cardi. Alternative would be black skirt, cream vest under brown cardi.

Thanks.

charitygirl · 13/10/2013 22:31

Id probably go black skirt, olive top and brown cardi. I like olive and brown together. Add a gold necklace if you've anything suitable and it'll look great.

Everyone hates my tartan leggings don't they? That's why you're not mentioning them. It's ok, I know they're ludicrous, esp on a 35 yo, but I love them.

dododoing · 13/10/2013 22:40

No, I'm not convinced - I have bought it but kept the tags on, so back it goes I think. It's just very toasty, and very comfortable. What I'm really after I've decided is a burgundy wool coat/jacket, but I can't find anything.

snowlie · 13/10/2013 22:41

Erm - not keen charity but I love tartan, I think it's that tartan I don't like as opposed to the idea. Would be more taken with tartan peg legs than tartan leggings.

Dressed like a middle aged lady today - all dowdy, anytime I wear brown it mares me feel blah, yet it's a ** colour. I'm sliding down that cynical path again.

MotherOfSoupDragon · 13/10/2013 22:43

Thanks Smile I'll try them on and see how it looks. Usually I'd go for skirt and cardi in the same colour, but only have a summer brown skirt.

dododoing · 13/10/2013 22:43

Tartan leggings are way outside my comfort zone Grin

charitygirl · 13/10/2013 22:51

Fight the cynicism snow! I think, from comments here, that lots of us feel a bit drab in dark brown - the only things I wear in that shade are a dress and a pair of v wide leg, high waist trousers - quite dramatic items so I'm making the most of a ** colour w/o feeling blah.

Think, tomorrow, I'll wear red tube skirt, cream silk blouse and either croc green cardi or light brown v neck, depending on whether I'm feeling demure (former) or businesslike (latter!) . Feet are v painful at the mo (long standing problems) so will be in trainers as much as possible between meetings!

charitygirl · 13/10/2013 22:54

Oh doing I've seen lots of burgundy around recently. Are you looking for a partic style? Seen a few wool bikers in burgundy/oxblood.

snowlie · 13/10/2013 23:09

Oh ignore me - I'm feel grumpy because I can't wear skinny jeans or anything tight due to a medical condition, so I'm feeling like a frump. I miss my skinnies!!!

CuriosityCola · 14/10/2013 06:19

I like the tartan skinnies, but wouldn't be able to get away with them. A combination of being tall and still working on post baby (#2) figure, means I like to keep my patterns up top.

I meant to say. I wore my colours for the first time this weekend and it was the most 'put together' and well turned out I have felt for ages. Can anyone recommend any skinny trousers with higher waist bands? I love my new ones, but not sure they wouldn't flash my ass if I had to retrieve toddler from soft play etc. Smile

CuriosityCola · 14/10/2013 06:22

Snowie, can you wear more fitted clothes in softer materials? Like a shorter skirt with thick tights? Or are tights a no no too?

snowlie · 14/10/2013 07:00

Grin curiosity I can wear tights. I was wearing a short skirt with woolly tights and a fitted cashmere cardigan with a cashmere scarf when I felt frumpy - it was just a bit too plain and safe....I need something more edgy...which is a bit of a challenge for an autumn who can't wear skinnies.

snowlie · 14/10/2013 07:24

Ignore me I'm really just having a tantrum about my jeans - I miss them and I am getting heartily fed up wearing skirts and dresses everyday, I feel a bit too dressed up! I'm going to get the hush harems that charity linked to earlier and maybe take up my search for boyfriend jeans again - although experience suggests they are less than flattering on my body shape.

CuriosityCola · 14/10/2013 07:46

I have these from oasis for slouch days. Super soft material and not restrictive like skinny jeans.

snowlie · 14/10/2013 07:50

Thanks Curiosity can you do the oasis link again please Smile I can't cut and paste on my iPad.

Hopefully · 14/10/2013 08:24

Charity I am uber jealous of your leggings. None in local TS and sold out online Sad.

Snowlie dark brown is a ** colour on me too, but it's not one I'm drawn to. I have one bespoke jacket in dark brown and one pair of v wide legged 50s trousers. I am more drawn to dark olive and petrol navy as neutrals.

I am a vision in monochrome today - dark olive skinnies, khaki IO top, bluey-olivey-tealy marl waterfall cardigan. And purple sheepskin slippers...

CuriosityCola · 14/10/2013 08:47

m.oasis-stores.com/oasis/fcp-product/3250176014 Sorry Smile I have these in a really dark blue.

snowlie · 14/10/2013 09:21

How frustrating curiosity - they only stock black and grey now!

charity how are you going to style your tartan leggings! I'm intrigued. I've heard that Primark are selling black watch tartan trousers. Might pop along and have a look.

CuriosityCola · 14/10/2013 09:50

I think the dark blue is still in the shops as I haven't had mine for long. Though it will depend where you are. I find the shops up here (edinburgh) are way behind the shops in London.

Today I'm working pjs with teal slippers SmileGrin

snowlie · 14/10/2013 11:02

These have just arrived and they are lovely. Rich dark brown, in a well nourished leather. Cut at just the right height to flatter the ankle when wearing with skinnies or skirts. I used a 20% off voucher - I think they look a lot more expensive than £80!

And they put an edge to all my dresses and skirts....so I'll go and pick all my toys up, sit up straight and stop being in a strop!
